carbon tax and a cleaner environment
... how will there be a correlation ? ... and how will we notice it please ? |
|
By:
Everybody keeps justifying this tax by saying 'If you put a price on it we will use less'.
Who will use less & what will we use less of? Put simply it is just be a tax that will be passed on to every Australian. Did we use less of any goods or services when we put a 10% GST on them? |
|
By:
Thebas, if you don't believe in carbon pollution there is probably no point in trying to convince you
Kye - electricity is the big one, people will use less if it costs more - i'm sure the gst changed some spending patterns |
|
By:
Carbon pollution? I think you mean carbon dioxide pollution.
I didn't appreciate you dobbing me in the other day either. |
|
By:
People will use less electricity!
That is laughable. I can see us all dismantling our air-conditioners & selling our tvs to save a little power What it will hit is the little pensioners with higher electricity costs. But they will need to be given handouts to compensate for the tax So it will go something like this, $100 is charged to electricity coy, they increase price by $100, pensioner is paid $100 extra by Gov't & gives it all back to electricity coy. Where is the saving the world?? |
|
By:
common name will do - mainstream is calling it carbon pollution so i'll go with that. as to dobbing you in I have no idea what you're on about DA
people are already using less electricity with the prices currently occurring Kye, surely a larger price increase will result in even more cuts - add to that moves to alternative sources. Low income families will be fully compensated but will probably still change behaviours to try and pocket some of that compensation, those that aren't compensated will do what they can to not be out of pocket - well some will anyway, others just won't care |
|
By:
It is a deliberate misuse of terms Womble and the propagandists know exactly what they're doing.Carbon, like a black powder evokes strong images of pollution.Carbon dioxide a colourless odourless gas vital to all life on earth just doesn't cut it as a propoganda tool.
As for the dobbing check out WODA! |

carbon tax and a cleaner environment
... how will there be a correlation ? ... and how will we notice it please ? Thebas, if you don't believe in carbon pollution there is probably no point in trying to convince you Kye - electricity is the big one, people will use less if it costs more - i'm sure the gst changed some spending patterns how will there be a correlation ? i mean what if the poor use less and the rich use more and there is no reduction in consumption .... then things are exactly the same ... and the tax was merely opportunistic and what i believe ... and what reality may apply ... is of no real consequence ... but unless there is an immediate alternative ... the day the new filthy tax is imposed ... then it is all of no purpose ... other than propping up a failing consolidated revenue base (ie opportunistic) ... and has nothing to do with the 'environment' |
|
By:
semantics DA
![]() haven't been to WODA for a while but i'd better have a look at what i'm meant to have done Thebas - the money will pay for compensation and change, change will be a good thing |
|
By:
Womble, do you honestly think that even if the plan works ...electricity companies are going to take the "haircut " to their bottomline in profits.
Recent history tells us they will gouge the money from somewhere and the consumer cops it. Ie : The alcohol companies did this some time ago. Changed bottling from 750ml to 700ml and the price stayed the same and Gov't taxes went up. So , I put to you Wombleoz , how is this different to what you argue...especially when their is no other choice for consumers to turn to ...except candles |
|
By:
of course prices will go up AP - that's the whole idea. the prices go up, people find ways to use less power and move towards alternatives. electricity companies that don't offer cleaner alternatives (which will now be more price competitive) move towards offering cleaner alternatives
are you saying people don't waste electricity AP - because i'd suggest most of us can find some savings if pushed, this is that push |
|
By:
the savings here i could make are minute to say the least, i could turn off everything at the wall , fkn problem being i have to reset all the timers daily, fat fkn chance,
so zero chance for me personally to save even minutely and now have to pay more fkn tax , please tell me how the fk this will save the planet as there are NO alternatives out there womble companies are NO WORSE off as they wont let their profits dive so who pays yet again YOU AND ME FFS , so where is their(companies) incentive , none!! and the great govt decides another 6.5c a litre on fuel all whilst collecting excise and oh yeah make that plus gst thankyou velly much the only good thing to come out of it will be a new govt sooner rather than later |

Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, August 2010:
" There will be no carbon tax under a government I lead" Deputy Prime Minister, Wayne Swan, August 2010: " The suggestion of us implementing a carbon tax is quite simply, an hysterical scare campaign from the Coalition" This is the ultimate act of betrayal on the Australian people from a disgraceful Prime Minister and a truly pathetic government. The Prime Minister should be ashamed of herself. The kick in the teeth for Australian's was realised yesterday as our deceitful Prime Minister stood before the Parliament and declared a the great big tax on everything she was scared to talk about and DENIED before the election - is coming. Listen to your own propaganda and farcical justifications at your peril, wombleoz. Australian's will pay more, but let me assure you pal; Gillard Labor will pay an even higher price. |
|
By:
This confirms to all Australian's what has been suspected since the last election.
Labor are in the government, but the Greens are in power. Listening to the fallout over the past 24 hours, this will rock the government to the core. And can I say, what a stirring Question Time from Tony Abbott yesterday. Wow. He echoes the thoughts of most Australian's. Australian's have had a gut full. We just can't cop yet another LABOR TAX. A mining tax, a flood tax and now a carbon tax. Enough is enough. This government WILL fall. But; I have feelings of despair thinking of the damage done in the mean time. |

Deceit will hurt every one of us
Terry McCrann From: Herald Sun February 25, 2011 JULIA Gillard has now turned her big lie into a big new tax. The carbon tax - that before the election she promised would not be imposed by "a government I lead" - now starts in 16 months. She hasn't even got the guts or the honesty to take it to voters at the next election. It will start as, or very quickly be, the equivalent of a 25 per cent increase in the GST - and then rise from there. Every year. Forever. You don't like your already much higher electricity bills? Get used to it, they are headed much higher. And then higher again and again. And that's only the start of it. Like the GST, Gillard's carbon tax will not only push up electricity prices; it will increase the price of everything. It sets out to hurt every Australian - to absolutely no point. It can make not the slightest difference to the local climate, far less the global climate. It purports to cut our emissions of carbon dioxide when we are happily pocketing the billions from selling coal and iron ore to China and the rest of Asia. Talk about hypocrisy, stupidity and deceit rolled into one. Putting one hand on heart, Gillard says we have to save the planet by cutting our emissions, while the other hand seeks to grab a bigger share of the profits of the mining companies from helping China double and even triple its emissions. There's a subtle but very significant change in what Gillard now proposes to do with the multi-billion dollar proceeds of her tax compared with predecessor Kevin Rudd's aborted emissions trading scheme. Rudd promised to return every penny raised to consumers. Gillard says some of the money will now go to "tackle climate change". Oh dear. Translated, that means more billions will be wasted on handouts to useless forms of generation such as wind and solar and dud schemes like "cash for clunkers". Rudd as prime minister made Gough Whitlam look like the very model of good governance. Now Gillard is making Rudd look the same. |

1.01 womble will come here and discredit terry
lets see man contributes 4% of carbon emmission - the earth creates its own 96% so oz contributes 1.4% of said 4% - so oz contribution = 0.56% and we are claiming to want 5% reduction by 2020 - so the net reduction (difference to now) will = .0028% of the original 4% but as against the 100% in total if i am correct make .0007% difference to the carbon emmissions on earth - wow that will really stop all the temps from going through the roof wont it!!! what a lots of codswallop and silly hunts like womble dont even realise the brainwashing that is going on |
|
By:
Womble : Do you seriously contend that the electricity providers won't keep pushing up prices to protect their margins , no matter which product or alternative they sell...
We can save maybe 10% by being good citizens ...but I will put to you that the 10% saving will be priced / gouged elsewhere. And of course the bareface lies off Gillard and Swan as Jez alluded to... What Labour think tank advisor thought of that one... Lie about something...backflip and consumer pays the fkn "freight". Biggest joke in fkn history....oh yes , the cutbacks in solar scheme programs ... |

short memories people - how many times did Labor try and get the ETS through before the last election??? we would have it now if Turnbull hadn't lost the leadership by 1 vote - it is Labor policy plain and simple but it's taken the Greens to make it happen
people will change their ways, companies will see the advantage of being green and the world will see the benefits of less pollution - wins all round i'd suggest and just to make sure, the most needy will be compensated |

Pathetic wombleoz. What sort of response is that?
Your kidding, right? Clearly wombleoz, as with Gillard Labor, has lost his way. We hear the same nonsense from wombleoz, over and over again. Back in early 2010, why didn't Rudd, following the change of leadership within the Liberal Party, go to an election? Turnbull gone. The Coalition now vehemently against an ETS. Why didn't your Labor comrades who had a trigger on repeated occasions in late 2009/early 2010 go for a double dissolution election.[/b] You know why? Because your a bunch of gutless fkn wonders. Rudd, Gillard, Swan and Tanner knew. They'd likely lose an election on "a great big new tax on everything. Fast forward to August last year. As the election campaign gets into full swing and on repeated occasions, Julia Gillard, now Prime Minister following a brutal bloody coup of a first term Prime Minister, says on repeated occasions on TV, radio and newspaper media: "There will be no carbon tax under a government I lead". Can't get anymore clearer than that, I'd suggest wombleoz. "There will be no carbon tax under a government I lead". And my personal favourite from the Deputy Prime Minister, Wayne Swan calling the suggestions of a carbon tax under a re-elected Labor government an: "hysterical scare campaign from the Coalition". ![]() ![]() ![]() Fair dinkum. But hey, I'm happy to sit back and watch this unfold. There's one thing, doing a John Howard and ruling out a tax, but then having a change of heart and taking it to an election. But what we've seen from Julia Gillard is the lowest of low political acts - this is the ultimate betrayal. But hey, its not me who will cast judgement. Its the Australian people. I feel Gillard may have just signed her government's own death warrant. |
|
By:
i agree with one part of what you wrote Jez, Labor were pathetic in not taking the ETS to the people in a double dissolution
the rest is your usual rubbish Turnbull gone. The Coalition now vehemently against an ETS. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() you can not be serious - will be very interesting to see what happens when the vote comes - correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't Turnbull said an ETS is inevitable??? Also interesting to note Abbott will not commit to removing the carbon tax if he gets in Just about everyone to the left of Abbott, and that's plenty, believe in climate change and believe we need a price on carbon - it's gutsy from Labor to go up against the media to get it done but it would never happen if the Greens weren't there - go you good things!!! ![]() |
|
By:
Just about everyone to the left of Abbott, and that's plenty, believe in climate change and believe we need a price on carbon
ever since jonestown i've come to the clear conclusion that you can, without giving people truth & facts, get sheep to swallow anything |
|
By:
We'll see how the public reacts to the lies and deceit from Gillard Labor, wombleoz.
You dribble the usual Socialist nonsense. As you'll see by the publics reaction - YOU, are in a minority. Thats right a MINORITY. Remember what she said before the last election? Do you REMEMBER what she said before the LAST ELECTION? Julia Gillard, August 2010: "There will be no carbon tax under the government I lead" This isn't about the Coalition, wombleoz, you desperate. ![]() This is about a failure of a government - the Rudd-Gillard government that has overseen the most botched, billion dollar projects in Australia's history, a great burden of debt, taxes taxes and more taxes and a government that self admittingly lost its way. Now it plans on implementing a great big new TAX on everything - that it explicitly ruled out before the election. Not take the tax or the THEORY behind it (thats right, this climate change - human impact link - is a theory, not an absolute) - to an election. Gutless fkn wonders. Deputy Prime Minister, Wayne Swan, August 2010: " The suggestion of us implementing a carbon tax is quite simply, an hysterical scare campaign from the Coalition " I'm not going to stand by and watch this pathetic excuse for a government implement a carbon tax with the filthy fingermarks of left wing extremists (Christine Milne, Bob Brown) all over it - and crush working Australian's all for the sake of a unsubstantiated THEORY. You'll pay for this wombleoz. You and all your socialist scumbags. |

suck it up Jez, the carbon tax is coming and it's about time

Julia Gillard = BIGGEST FVCKING LIAR in Australian political history.Hope she gets assassinated she deserves it.
Hey that's pretty hard to spell in my condition! |
|
By:
This may warm your ideological dreams wombleoz - but the majority didn't vote for a Green Government. And the people who voted Labor, did so, knowing the new PM Gillard had ruled out a carbon tax.
Oh and did you see/hear the hubris from Christine Milne during the week? Not a good look for Gillard Labor. Labor in governments, but the Greens in power. And how do you escape the ULTIMATE BETRAYAL? Forget the thread topic, forget the debate on climate change or the outcomes supposedly achieved from a carbon tax. The FACT is. This is a Prime Minister who went to an election VOWING that there would be "NO CARBON TAX under the government I lead". Very clear. Crystal clear. And we had a Deputy Prime Minister calling the suggestion of a carbon tax an "hysterical scare campaign from the Coalition". Where are you going to find the political capital to stave off the leadership rumblings? hmm? Bob Hawke has already come out and said that Gillard won't last the distance. ![]() And all the while, Labor continue to underestimate Abbott. Fair dinkum pal, enjoy the warm fuzzy feelings wombleoz. Let me make this declaration bud, you may have won the battle to have a carbon tax deceitfully imposed on the Australian people, but politically, the Coalition WILL win this war. |
|
By:
Once you wake the giant, that is the conservative/middle Australia voting base....fkn look out.
|

wombleoz
suck it up Jez, the carbon tax is coming and it's about time Just ram and raid ideology for wombleoz. "Whatever it takes". Game on. |

want an interesting read - try this one
http://www.malcolmturnbull.com.au/homepage/speech-in-the-house-carbon-pollution-reduction-scheme/ are you telling me he was elected as an anti climate changer and anti a price on carbon??? |
|
By:
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hopeless wombleoz. Is that your answer to Julia Gillard and her government deceiving and lying to the nation before the election? A throw-away to the Shadow Communications spokesman and a speech he made in 2010 to the parliament....forgive me but I thought Gillard Labor was about "moving forward" wombleoz? You sound stuck in the past. Things have changed. But one thing remains. A lie is a lie. This government has betrayed the Australian people. |
|
By:
I think they have just done further research and determined the best way to tackle this is to introduce the tax, it wouldn't be the first, or indeed the last government to change their mind.
|
|
By:
Has she been assassinated yet? No? Typical Australians - all skirt and no knickers.
|
|
By:
only revolting around here DA is Abbott's revolting use of the word revolting - people around the world risking their lives to change governments and he tries to link to it [>o]
Jez, are you 100% convinced no Liberals will cross the floor to vote for to put a price on carbon??? Joel, it's not a bad first step - personally i'd be happy enough to stay at a tax rather than go to trading, trading just opens the door to profiteering |
|
By:
thanks for your reply to what .0007% change to emmission by 2020 will make a difference to the climate womble, then again you only answer when it suits your needs
and tell that trash milne the people all over this vast continent cannot all use public transport its fkn impossible therefore the push for highest possible fuel increase will inflict maximum pain, not feasible for everyone (read big families) to drive around in Smart cars |
|
By:
At least Liberals CAN cross the floor, wombleoz.
Instant disendorsement and banishment from the Labor Party if you dare cross the floor as a comrade. ![]() We don't want to talk about that, now do we wombleoz? I'm not sure what will happen with the vote, the Liberal Party is a broad church of views, opinions and ideas. I think its probably more appropriate for the government to concentrate on actually securing its passage from there end - the Independents are NOT signed on yet. This carbon tax already has polling heading southward for the government. Wheres the details? ![]() ![]() ![]() Comical stuff from Gillard Labor. Love it, keep it coming. |
|
By:
Whilst there are those within the Coalition who do not accept the climate change theory - and some that do - I think the Coalition are united in there belief in a direct action plan rather than a great big tax on everything.
|
|
By:
petrol isn't in yet secong - if it is included it can't be a blanket approach - Windsor and Oakeshott will make sure it isn't though
simple question for you - reducing carbon pollution is a bad thing because??? |
|
By:
actually agree with you there Jez, Labor members should be able to cross the floor - it's madness that they can't
as to the carbon tax getting through - Windsor is the key, well maybe, will a Liberal that believes in climate change vote for the common good and give them the vote they need??? |
