As I mentioned in the last NB, meeting abandoned so I'll be back on Monday with my next selection advice.

*Since posting this tip earlier today a non selected runner Age of Bronze has been removed which has dramatically reduced the returns unfortunately.  We can hope one of our selected back marker horses now gets withdrawn so we see the return become appealing again.  Plenty of time left before the off with this one, and looking at it we may even see another abandoned meeting.*

What a crazy couple of days for pouring rain across the UK causing meetings to be abandoned.  All I can say is let's hope it comes to an end soon enough, and we at least get some sunshine and stability over this so called summer.

Anyway on to today and we have another Dutch of The Day selection for this evening.  Let's hope we see the meeting go ahead, and no crucial runners in this dutch bet are withdrawn which could affect the dynamic of the race.

The current return is the same as our last winning dutch bet of circa 8%, but with today's weather this could change and become a positive if one of our included back markers drops out.  With only £1500 matched so far in this market at the moment it's hard to say what price it will go off, but at worst it should return around 8% if one of our runners does the business.

Hi Everyone,

The horse we opposed yesterday fell over, which was good for the bet but terrible for the horse who's life sadly ended.  We only returned 8% which was the morning price, but it extends the profits a little bit further.

I'm pretty sure when we start getting closer to £500 to a £1000 profit banked, this style of low return betting over a long period will start to make sense to more people, but we did have a good number of visitors yesterday and interest, which is good see more people realising they can place these dutch bets.

Here are the results so far.



I'm dodging today and not posting a dutch of the day, in fact my usual races I dutch each day are also looking a bit tricky.  So it's profits banked and I'll be back tomorrow with advice about my next selection.

By popular demand today here is a post I put up last year about how to place a dutch bet.  To use Betfair multiples to do this and get a combined SP return, just go to the race in the multiples, choose all your horses and click estimate to see your dutched returns, simple!

Without boring you all to tears with a history lesson about how the system originated, which I understand was from Al Capone’s accountant, but don’t shoot me if I’m wrong!

If you search Google for ‘what is dutching’ we get, ‘In gambling, Dutching is sharing the risk of losing across a number or runners by backing more than one selection in a race or event. The process calculates the correct stake to place on each selection, so that the return is the same if any of them wins’. Which in a nutshell is dutching!

You can add all kinds of amazing variables to this system, with the advent of Betfair unlocking trading capabilities around your dutching.  For our ZH Ratings selections we are simply backing the top rated downwards to give us the desired equal profit should any of them win!

The dutch bet below demonstrates how to dutch using 2011′s Grand National selections as an example, and shows the benefit of using this system to increase your prospects of winning more often.

This is out of a possible dutch for the five ABCDE rated horses for the big race, using a total stake of £100.00 split between all five horses, gives an equal profit should any of the horses win of approx £279.40.

How to Calculate A Dutch Bet?

You can use an online Dutching calculator such as Oddschecker, the Betfair multiples section will work out a combined dutched profit for you on the majority of events, or for a complete solution get yourself a decent API which will auto calculate your dutch bet.

I personally recommend Fairbot API for dutching, as it has a great back and lay dutch calculator built in to it, and it is very easy to use.  Not only this, hedging options are made simple, and when it comes to stability this API in the three years I’ve been using it has never once let me down.

Hi Everyone,

We're on a pretty good run at the moment, so it's important we do our best to keep banking the profits as much as possible.

Today we have another Dutch of The Day which to be fair could return quite low, but I'm hopeful of around 10% at the off as it's currently 8%.  We're also opposing only one horse in this race as it's quite a competitive little handicap, but I can't see this horse being a danger so let's hope I'm correct about the returns and the outcome.

Hi Everyone,

With the non runner coming from our selections yesterday taking us down to 8 horses, this boosted the profit slightly giving us a 12% return on the day. If we had placed the dutch bet on the exchange this wouldn't of happened of course, we would have just lost that individual bet and our overall profit would have been reduced, which is one of the benefits of using Betfair multiples to place your dutch bets.

It was a lucky race though with the danger horse chasing the 2nd favourite home, but a wins a win!

Today I had a dutch bet lined up for Brighton in the 5.15pm, but the favourite is now a non runner which has changed the dynamic of the entire race, so I'll be back tomorrow with hopefully another winning dutch bet.

Hi Everyone,

Well the favourite got up to win yesterday as I predicted, so if you just backed that you would have been a heck of a lot happier than the meagre 5% which payed out on the dutch bet.  At the start of the day it was 10% but plummeted as the interest mounted in the favourite!

Not all doom and gloom though, at least we didn't lose and picked up a few quid profit.
