Afternoon gents.

How do you all feel about increasing the numbers in the premier division from 25 to 26 on a permanent basis?

If we were to go ahead. The fairest way I feel would be to promote 5 from div 1 at the end of the month and an extra one to be promoted from div`s 2 & 3 as a one off, obviously keeping the same numbers in div`s 1 & 2. Afterwards, we revert to the standard plan of promotion/relegation.

You can't beat some Ramones for in depth lyrics, for example from The Ramones (1976):

I don't wanna walk around with you
I don't wanna walk around with you
I don't wanna walk around with you
So why do you wanna walk around with me
'Cause I don't wanna walk around with you

Repeat x2

I case you were wondering I am a Ramones fan and managed to see them a number of times in the 1980s - 35 songs in 75 minutes Grin

By the way, the more I think about the Premier "minmum effort" statement I made earlier, I think I was out of line and it really was unfair, for that I would like to apologise...salmon and all the envolved

But I still think that there should be more relagations in all divisions

How does this sound. Increase the premier division by one for the next three months, so May will have 26, June 27 and July 28. Then take stock and see how we all feel. Obviously for the next three months there will also be an extra promotion place available in Div`s 1, 2 & 3.

We need something solid in front of us to decide upon, what I`ve proposed, I believe will enhance the overall ethos.

Look forward to your replies.
Report china castle • April 8, 2013 7:11 PM BST
Think its a good idea . I have never understood why the premier has less in it than other divisions . On a separate note I couldn't help noticing how few people went for it on the last day last month . Think we need to make the Premier worth winning for more people . Maybe , from next month , make relegation exempt for the previous months winner .

Report Lusitano71 • April 8, 2013 7:36 PM BST
Like I said before (although not in the best of ways) there isn't incentive to do that much once you reach the Premier, the only main incentive I see is staying away form the bottom four places

Exemption might have the opposite effect because it just takes pressure from doing that extra needed
Report china castle • April 8, 2013 7:42 PM BST
If the winner is a long way clear , tips a big outsider like BB on Saturday , then top 3 gives others something to aim at as well.

Before someone says it , there is the odd outsider tipped in the premier league Shocked

Report Shanelee1966 • April 8, 2013 7:53 PM BST
Survival will always play an important part in the premier division. Nothing we can do will eliminate that. Just take a look at the other divisions, plenty of favs & odds on.

Too much is made of people`s lack of ambition, yes it is there, I agree, but as stated many times before by me, four are promoted every month, so in theory we could have 16 new napsters in the premier every 4 months, or taking it to the extreme, 24 new players every 6 months. So my message to everyone who knocks them would be to disturb the status quo, knock them off their perch.

Premier (30)
Div 1 (30)
Div 2 (30)
Div 3 (maximum of 50) the existing participants plus new members on a 1st post basis.
Commencing 1st June.
The above numbers would be my proposal as i cannot see any reason in pratting about with a 1 a month increase over a longer period keep it simple and let us do it like this, Nobody from the premiership gets relegated during May making a very interesting month to view.
Report china castle • April 8, 2013 8:45 PM BST
I like the idea of a month of no relegation Grin. The banter will go off the scale with any odds on shot Laugh
Report madhatter • April 8, 2013 9:06 PM BST
i am one man and I have a lovely 7yo blue merle sheepdog and had plenty to say on the previous thread about changes!

i have little opinion on current topic at all and can't see a change that would persuade those people that are 'cautious' to approach the competition in any other way unless BSP was maybe used to give greater reward to those that are even just slightly more adventurous.

Don't see a bigger division making any noticeable difference.

As you know, I just don't see Premiership survival as a meaningful target....the aim for me is all about overall profit, not league position (I just wish I wasn't such a sh1te tipster!!!Plain).

Only three Prem players managed a profit in March I believe and, despite people having 50 and 60% strike rates, they generally still show a 10 to 20% loss on stake!

Best structure would be one huge division with one monthly champion....isn't this the equivalent of how the SL/RP Naps table has existed happily for the 40 years that I have followed the sport?

Four settlers - each gets one very busy month but then three months off before their turn again.
Report Shanelee1966 • April 8, 2013 9:10 PM BST
BSP is something I warmed to before mads, as you say the greater the price the greater the difference.

I`ve a little exercise to complete, the results may surprise many. Or maybe not, let`s see.

Report china castle • April 8, 2013 9:18 PM BST
I have tried my best to stop napping on the evening a/w cards because of the awful overrounds this winter . Those that choose to bet in Ireland also have the same problem. The only downside of BSP can only be if its more work for the settlers .
Report madhatter • April 8, 2013 9:24 PM BST
i agree petemac....one would be too few....and it is nice to have a promotion to aim for (or relegation to try to avoid!) each month which would of course disappear with just one huge division

i could see say 3 divisions of 40 per league with 4 up/4 down each month persuading people to be a bit more adventurous with selections so let's hope that 30 per division will have some effect but i feel it may still need to go to a bit bigger number
Report Shanelee1966 • April 8, 2013 9:29 PM BST
Promotion and relegation are vital, that`s what makes it such a great comp.
Report petemac • April 8, 2013 9:32 PM BST
BSP has been discussed and well rejected China.
Madhatter, are you saying you like the idea that the craic will vanish or the idea of no relegation in May for premiership?
In reply to your question how will tipping habits change? i never said that would happen just said it would be interesting to see how the existing tipsters would react to a month without the threat of relegation.
Report Shanelee1966 • April 8, 2013 9:41 PM BST
Today 14 from 24 in the premier selected a favourite, that's 58.33%

In division three it was 40%. Considering the two extremes whereby in the premier you have no promotion to aim for and division 3 where you have no relegation to fear, I`d say there`s not much difference.

What's all this talk about showing respect and never getting near the Premiership??? Where does this entitlement comes from?? We say whatever we want whenever we want, there is a minimum respect we should all have amongst ourselves but what you're implying with your call for respect is the subservient kind of respect.

I could make a month table of all the competitors of the divisions together and you would see that there a lot of competitiors from the other divisions that end up way ahead of you.

Received Reg. Glad we`re all in agreement.

Best to let everyone know straightaway, can you all post in your respective divisions.

To clarify, the premier division will increase from 25 members to 28 over the next three months. So on the 30th April (last day) 5 will be promoted from div 1, 6 from div 2 and 6 from div 3. Then again at the end of May and June. The numbers in div 1 & 2 remain the same.

This will undoubtedly strengthen the premier and give three more napsters the opportunity to win it every month.
It also gives more opportunities for promotion across the board and lessens the burden on the ever growing div 3.
