Hi Poppydog. Sorry, I meant to write an explanation.

Unfortunately Secret Rebel was declared a non-runner and taken out of the Betfair market over 3½ hours before you posted it as a selection. So, in fairness to everyone it can't be allowed to stand as a non-runner.

Always best to check before posting. I've made the same mistake myself in the past.

Well it's a little bit disappointing -  in about a dozen years of Naps Tables, I've never been penalised for a Non-Runner before.

I chose it late morning when doing my bets for the day,as it was in my notebook after it's decent performance the week before.
It was:
a) still in the market betting
b) Fav for it's race
c) tipped by the RPost
I didn't post it until I managed to get back to a laptop in the afternoon, knowing it was an evening meeting.

Like I said, never penalised for a Non-Runner ever before. When did the Rules change?

Poppydog, the Rules haven't changed and you haven't been penalised for a non-runner. You posted a selection that wasn't in the race at the time you posted it! Therefore it is invalid.

I made it VERY clear during the first week of the month in several posts which you must have read that it is the responsibility of players to make sure that their selection hasn't already been withdrawn, otherwise it would be open to manipulation by unscrupulous players.

Genuine mistakes happen, as indeed I'm sure yours was by your explanation, but in fairness to the other players it can't be allowed to stand as a non-runner when you were over 3½ hours late with posting it.

I imagine the reason it's not mentioned in the Rules is that it's common sense. Quite obviously players can't select a horse which isn't going to run, whether it's because of an abandoned meeting or it's been withdrawn or whatever. But as Shane pointed out earlier in the month, it can be a grey area when the time of posting is very close to the time of withdrawal, and it's up to individual settlers to judge what they deem to be a fair margin of error. Which is why I always allow a very generous margin of about 15 to 20 minutes between the time of the selection being withdrawn from the Betfair market and the time of posting. But looking at recent Premier results, I see that Shane allows a margin of at least 1½ hours which is extremely generous in my opinion, so maybe it's time that the situation was clarified in the Rules so everyone knows exactly where they stand.

It's a very rare occurrence by the way. To have it happen twice in Div 2 in the same month is remarkable. Most months it doesn't happen at all.
Report Shanelee1966 • November 23, 2012 9:17 AM GMT
Morning

At the moment i don`t penalise anyone for selecting non-runners after they have been pulled out. The only day i really check is the final day. I`m happy that everyone in the premier competes in the correct spirit. I myself have selected a n/r over an hour after it was pulled, obviously i didn`t realise at the time as i`d be the last to try that.

Take yesterday for example, many n/r`s in the premier with a meeting called-off, they had all day to re-select but from memory only hong kong fooey & Fidway did, very negative in some cases i`m sure. On the flip side maybe some don`t have continued access to the internet through the day? Who knows.

So, as mentioned before it`s down to the individual settler how they police these matters as the premier division is a different animal on many fronts. You`ve made things clear in the past momms so i see no reason why anyone competing in Div 2 can feel hard done by. If that`s your interpretation of the rules then all in Div2 must abide by them.

I always engage in conversation (posts) on all issues in the premier and they all know i value consistency in settling. In short everyone knows where they stand.

Man Of Many Moods,
Thanks for clearing that up.

Now I know, I'll double check before typing. It was just the surprise at it never having happened before.
Nevertheless, if I lose out on promotion in a week's time by a point or less, I shall resort to Twitter and Social Media
to calm my fury:
