TOP 10 Summary

raspberrybottom - last month's Div3 champion; he's been at No.1 all month apart from 2 days when he slipped down to 2nd. Every chance of being Div2 champion for August but even if he's caught, I'd say he looks reasonably secure for getting back to Div1.

BinnocularsNotNeeded - a 50% strike rate has kept him on the podium for all bar 7 days this month. Not 100% safe for promotion yet, but looking good if he can maintain position.

Ashmal - 56.5% strike rate which includes 7 winners out of the last 8. Lowest position this month is 13th. By no means guaranteed promotion yet, but has an excellent chance.

Earth To Mickey - a steady month inspite of missing 4 days recently. Never out of the top half of the table, but now relying on Instructions to the business for him.

hoof hearted - he's been in the Top 5 for nearly 2 weeks now. Currently hanging on precariously to 5th place by less than £1. Needs to find some more winners in the last few days.

CreamyWhiskers - this is his 3rd month in Div2. Finished 16th in June, and narrowly escaped relegation in July, finishing 24th. Currently in 6th with only 6 winners so far, he now has an excellent chance of escaping to Div 1.

stealthgun - now in his 13th month in Div2, and still following his usual MO of maintaining position with the shortest prices he can find, and then striking like a deadly cobra in the final days with some bigger prices. The first bit works magnificently. It's the deadly cobra bit which needs some fine tuning.

mr d ferret - 6 winners and 4 days on the podium in 5th place this month. Nicely placed in 8th with less than £2 to make up to get back in the promotion zone.

majorupshotbagley - also in his 13th month in Div2. Dropped to 22nd earlier in the month but hasn't been out of the Top 10 for the last 10 days. 2 odds-on shots in the last 2 days both beaten into 2nd place have got him cursing and gnashing his teeth. He would now be in 5th place if they'd both won. Still has an excellent chance though of getting back to Div1.

pedro39 - our 3rd most senior player having been in Div2 since December 2011. Only 4 winners so far this month but it's been enough for him to spend a large part of August on the podium. He's slipped from 5th to 10th in the last few days, but hasn't got much ground to make up to get back into the Top 5.

Mid-Table Summary

Aquarius - been in Div2 since May. Yet to reach the Top 5 this month, but having a steady month so far and isn't far away.

tryoffagain - spent a few days in the Top 5 during the first week, but then dropped away to 21st. He's just scored a hattrick which has but him right back in contention. His fate is already sealed, having already made his selections for the next few days while he's away.

unluckyStu - only 5 winners so far, but an average price of 7/2. He's escaped to Div1 before; he can do it again.

penzance - he's spent 5 days in the drop zone, but a 3/1 winner the other day saw him back up to 14th. Still well in with a good chance.

Monte Christo - was on holiday for the first half of the month, scoring thrice from the drop zone with his 10 Instructions. A 10/1 winner on his return took him up to 8th but has only managed 2 x 2nds since then. Still has 5 days left to catch up a relatively small amount.

kwalker - 33% strike rate but nothing bigger than 15/8. Has managed to avoid both the podium and the cesspit so far this month, but has always been outside the Top 10. Needs to find a couple of better priced winners now to reach the promotion area.

ATone - came dangerously close to the drop zone earlier in the month, and has since spent 3 days on the podium; highest position 3rd. Hasn't had a winner since Aug 14th. Badly needs a couple now.

Draw1 - a similar story. Spent a few days on the podium earlier in the month but hasn't found a winner since Aug 10th. Not out of it yet by any means but needs to get back into winning ways toot sweet.

SilverBuck1 - he's stayed out of the drop zone but has also stayed out of the Top 10. I imagine his school report used to say "Must try harder".

elvissss - only the 3 winners so far but decent prices have just about kept him out of trouble. On the podium for the first 2 days but then dropped as low as 25th. Still got a chance if he can find another couple of 7/1 winners.

learning thegame - spent 6 days on the podium in the first week thanks to a 13/2 winner, but has only managed to score 4 x odds-on shots since then. Down to joint 20th at the moment and needs to find his earlier form to stand a chance of promotion.

Bottom 10 Summary

Or in this case, the bottom 9.

The lower end contains a few former Premier and Div 1 players, so they're not as hopeless as this month's form figures suggest. Far from it. All capable of producing spectacular results, but as we all know and we've all experienced, bad months can happen all too frustratingly easily.

I always find myself rooting for the underdogs in the drop-zone as I never want to lose anyone to Div 3. And I'm always delighted for anyone when they manage to escape. My delight is short-lived of course as it means that someone else is now in trouble and I quickly switch allegiance. So it's a no-win situation for me. When the dust has settled on the final day, five will definitely be going.

I'm not going to write individual summaries for each of the nine because they'd basically all say the same thing. Apart from mini me and travellingman who each spent one day in 7th place, none of the nine has been inside the Top 10 this month. Most haven't even troubled the Top 15.

Those whose totals are still in single figures actually still have an excellent chance of promotion if they can find a couple of mid-priced winners. And I'm definitely not writing off any of the others yet. We've seen players go from last to first before so anything is possible with the wind in the right direction.
