has been money for it which has swayed my thoughts towards it as other 2 picks are set back in the next and copperwood in the last at kempton but that horse last 2 wins have been by very small margins and also hoof picked out bilberry in that race which is now a non runner looking at the form of my horse it won a 1m4f class 6 at southwell carrying 9-7 won by 7 l was 15 l clear last furlong but eased down this race is a class 3 over 1m6f but horse has won last 2 class 3 races one of them over CD but with with 8-6 today has 9-10 we will see if the handicapper has caught up with it |

just a word with hoof i know you are the captain of the team
and you have to trust us players to pick the winners at the moment i am useless at picking a winner i am near but not near enough however i might of swayed you to pick copperwood as your horse was a n/r in my write up on my picks today if you did then oops dont listen to me again make your own opinion on the races unless there is a tactic you want us to follow i.e. each way in small races when fav odds on/ dont back h/caps dont back sprints etc etc |

GL to all still to play tomorrow. The racing looks really hard tomorrow - struggling to find anything worth a bet.
Any points you can pick up will be an achievement imo but with a bit of luck we won´t need so many to win. |

Duke of Puke - thanks for your comments, I am having a bit of a mare picking at the moment, especially in this comp. Re my selection - yes I did see your read up, but in all honesty I thought it would be between my original selection which became a non runner and my eventual selection which you fancied too. I thought the race would be between the two I just initially went for the one offering greater value. On an unrelated note I am hoping to go to Aintree this week, more than likely the Thursday - is anyone else going? |

Have your say by all means however I must add a word of caution /and pick up on something where I think Gart is coming from. I have been in this comp since the outset, and I have enjoyed it and whilst dwelling on past glories our overall record is as good as any team. However in this time the number of Teams that have fallen out with each other is unbelievable. Views and strategys are always welcome but lets not let this generate into personal attacks and arguments. We all like to compete thats why we are here, no one picks a loser on purpose. Good constructive thoughts and views yes. I will add constructive thought number one - it is inevitable that some will not post for a number of reasons, be it known holiday (which in this case we can plan ahead) or lack of access /something cropping up at the last minute. Yesterday we were faced with 2 last minute wild cards but we hung on in the offf chance the posters appeared. Lets assume that if no one has shown by 2.00 Sat, unless advising they are posting late will be a no show that week and enable the wild card to be selected over a greater choice of races. |

Hey mully, can you believe both the last two finished 2nd. Traded at 1.42 and 1.01 in running at 9-2 and 11-4. Buggerrrrr! So close to a nice bet. Would have been over nine grand had the last two gone in.

Nobody´s going to get personal gart but the fact is we´re not - as a team - finding enough winners.
At this time of the year especially - with the NH season winding down and the flat starting - its always hard to find winners. And we all, every punter, have our good and bad runs, and when you only have one selection in a week it can be difficult to know what to go for. But I think we need to something to improve our strike rate. The problems as I see them: 1. We are still making too many selections on a Saturday. I´ve said it before and I´ll say it again, Saturday is the hardest day of the week to find winners. Prizemoney is usually better so races are more competitive. In spite of this 75%+ of our tips are made on a Sat. I can understand the reasoning behind keeping 2-3 tips back to see whats happening in the competition but not the mmajority. 2. Some of us have been way out of form for too long. What I don´t understand is when you´re on a bad run and not getting winners why don´t you make it easier for yourself. From Monday to Friday there are at least a dozen easy-to-find winners priced evens to 1-2. Why not stick one up as a ten pointer and get us some early scores? Or look for an uncompetitive race with an odds on fav and go ew on the second or third fav? Even 10pts on a 1-2 shot every week will give us 60pts a month which would be a nice foundation for the team. 3. Forget the big handicaps of the week. In all the time I´ve been playing I can´t remember any of us getting a big priced winner of the big race, yet we continue to try. Lincolns, Cambridgeshires, Nationals, Chamionship races, are just too competitive - forget them all. Your horse can run a great race in a 40 horse field and finish 5th and again we have no score. And forget 20+ fields, there are just too many things that can go wrong. Look for races where you can put the pen through at least half the field. We have 32 picks in a month between 8 players. All we need is for everyone to average 50 points a month and we would be winning just about every time. I want to say again that I´m not getting at anybody in particular. I might be the top scorer this year but my tally isn´t too hot either. And the people who are on bad runs are at least open enough to admit it. If you think I´m taking it too seriously maybe you´re right. Of course its just a wee bit fun. But its a competition too and whether I play as an individual or as part of a team I always want to win. And, at the moment, I´m not enjoying competing for the wooden spoon on a regular basis. I would hope nobody else is either. These are my thoughts and I would like to know what everyone else thinks. |

i'm having a bad run on this compo
i think sometimes with one shot per week that i wobble and not make the best decision, however, blowing my own trumpet i,m leading the big race compo over the sticks. so bad runs happen. i dont know much about the form of low grade races so tend to stick to something decent, generally non handicaps or wait if i think i can get a jolly beaten and go against it. for instance i wanted to pick luska lad on sunday but didnt for whatever reason, sods law. i dont look at the form every day so when i do i'll pick the best of the moment. if picking 10/1 shots is unwise then i'd rather not go each way and pick something shorter. on that note what does every one think about nacarat on thursday? :) |

ps i often like to post on sunday because i have the time and i like the irish racing ; and i do think that saturdays are tricky.
one thing i would note is that its easy to say "mmm.. a nice short priced one and that'll keep us going" is a poor mindset you bet on whats infront of you rather than go looking for it regardless of price. however all in all the compo is broken down into segments so its necessary to get a little something each week but thats countered with the bonus points for each 66pts.....its tricky. so we must focus, as seve ballesteros sais! |

when you break down the points like that it makes sense as you know i am well out of form picking winners but i am thereabouts in another comp at www.bettingcompetition.co.uk i am not in front in the main comp but was 2nd at cheltenham the trouble is picking the RIGHT ONE |

We all have peaks and troughs in our form. Mine isn't as sparkling as it was this time last year as usually March/April are my best months year on year. Sometimes it gets you down.
Our trouble in the last few months has been we've all been hitting those lows together. As a we say in the crown green bowling game.."It'll come" :D P.S- I do agree that nobody should really be trying to crack those big race handicaps on a Saturday. Those are for private comps you may play in but complete folly in a team comp. To be fair, we rarely have anyone going for them though in this team. Best of luck this weekend. I'm away to Aintree tonight and may have little or no internet access whic actually might be nice :D |

didnt see the race but was close up when fell. :_| gone for somersby in the novice chase and odds on in my view. other than the nightingale perhaps, the others dont appear to be in the same parish as the sel. |

Hi Gart-Yes, I do find Chelts form rarely transfers over to Aintree. Most have an empty tank.
