How do we know she is close?  Every poll bar one I've seen has him a mile in front.  She's barley second in the polls in a photo with Aiden.

If I had the choice I'd give Rebecca one too.

lou, can you not see that a poll putting matt up against rebecca is pretty interesting?

a poll with all 9 remaining contestant has a large chunk of people supporting 7 other acts.  if those 7 acts were eliminated, their supporters would have to go somewhere.  some to matt, some to rebecca.  exactly where they'd go is highly important.

however, final night polls are all pretty irrelevant right now.  the only key KEY stats in any polls at this moment are those at the bottom.  plenty of time for things to change at the top.

Rebecca is only 5-2.

That's seriously worth mentioning as there is so much factored into that price already, such as never visiting b2 (must be a possiblity later on imo) and not having a bad week.

All the good players on here know it's not just about singing, yet Rebecca offers very little in the way of personality/votability.

I couldn't touch her at the price (although I don't rate her chances in any case) much in the same way I couldn't touch Matt.

I dont get this Rebecca has no personality nonsense, there is nothing false or pretentious about her at all, everyone who talks about her says how lovely she is,she is a normal girl with a god given talent, thats enough for me.

Cher, Katie, Vagner(!) Grime in a weird way.

It's not the point really, I'm saying a 5-2 shot that is behind on all decent measures has weakness in that area.

Leona was two levels ahead of anyone else tho.
I'm not at all convinced that Rebecca's singing style will appeal to the mass Saturday night audience.

cher - vile personality
katie - deluded personality
wagner - funny enough
grimshaw - yep i guess so, plus does a great wallace impression!

I like Cher and I like Katie (betting aside obv).

Cher's a pocket terrorist and Katie knows it's just a game and is having the time of her life winding everyone up No Doubt.

The Rebecca v Matt debate is one which has just really surfaced in the past week or so.

The fact of the matter is that up to now Matt has been ahead - I'll give him that. However the gap is getting shorter and shorter. Whether there is a gap at all right now is a matter of personal taste.

When all the dead wood has been filtered out and you're ultimately left with Matt or Rebecca. Who does all the dead wood support transfer to?

When you compare personalities they are quite similar. Matt has tried to play a game from day 1 with the confidence card, BUT his derogatory remarks about other contestants and little cracks which have started to appear about his private life that are now in the public domain, are doing him no good whatsoever.

The other fact that must be conceded is that the momentum is certainly with Rebecca right now. Whether that continues remains to be seen. As we all know ladies and gents, this is a marathon, not a sprint.

I'm sure SC would be happy with either as winner, but I think he sees greater potential and appeal across the pond for Rebecca.

normally i'd be making the same sort of call cider

but the 5/2 is more a reflection on the people in places 3,4,5 and 6 in the market

they've all had a pimp slot and they've all shown next to no improvement.

apart from cher, they've got worse every week....and cher simply can't beat a half decent matt or rebecca in a saturday
night itv popularity contest.

This is what I don't get though.  How do we know 'the gap is getting shorter and shorter'?  She MAY be even getting more votes.

Denman

To answer your question below I don't think there's nothing false or pretentious about her, she seems a very nice girl don't get me wrong.  She just hasn't moved form the spot in 5 weeks, not even touchimg the mic' or stand.  You'd think especially being a girl she'd be able to move a bit wouldn't you?  She just comes across too shy for me and a bit boring.  Every song seems the same and she just doesn't have the 'wow' factor IMO.

Do you think that the majority of potential voters would be able to recall what Rebecca sung on Saturday, aa?

I'm not laying, that's not my game but to me there's no upside to backing at these levels at all.

I agree.  Can't remember one of her songs.  Has she sang the same one each week so far?

probably not.

to be 5/2 having sung the songs she has so far and in the positions on the show...is a quite a stretch.

it's a bit like Red Rums 3rd grand national win....they're not doing very much behind her Happy

Lou - This is what I don't get though.  How do we know 'the gap is getting shorter and shorter'?  She MAY be even getting more votes.

She may well be!

A few indicators are kind of suggesting that the gap is getting shorter...
1. Market
2. Social networking sites stats and stats from twitter etc
3. Papers are starting to ramp her.
4. Online polls now have them neck and neck in popularity.
5. Cowell is telling the masses she is the one to vote for.

A friend who would follow XF and knows that I have a strong interest in Rebecca, (though not involved himself) said he never saw Cowell as animated and blatant in his support of a contestant as last Saturday night

1.  The market?  Matt down to 13/8 dfrom 11/4 in one week?

2.  What social networking sites?

3.  What papers?  The Sun for instance highlighted Matt again today.

4.  Online polls have Matt a mile clear apart from the one Figgy started himself where they are 50/50.  NOTW had matt a mile clear on Sunday too.

5.  Cowell isn't telling the masses she's the one to vote.  Pushed into naming one act of the two for a recording contract he said rebecca.  that's hardly telling the masses who to vote!

Lou, I won't argue.
I take your points on board. We'll agree to disagree.
Have a quick look back at the Cowell ramp after Rebecca's performance and tell me he isn't encouraging the public to vote for her!

18th Oct -  YouGov  -          Matt 26%  Rebecca 10%

5th Nov    -  ICM Research  -    Matt 30%  Rebecca 16%

Both moving away from the pack, Rebecca a little faster, Matt maintains commanding lead.

Lou it is understandable that I seem to hear and see a differnt thing to the rest of the planet when Rebecca apears. Being an alien from outer space.

This highly made up immobile expressionless singer seems to sound the same everyweek. She sings highly distinctive songs yet manages to get them to all sound the same. Yet half the country seem to think she is the next Aretha Franklin or summat.

Are you extraterrestrial too?
By:
LOU MACARIS TARTAN B
When: 08 Nov 10 23:42
I think I must be!

I would say about 16% of the country think she's the best thing whereas Matt about 30% so a teeny weeny lead at the polls.  Aiden for second, Cher/Rebecca 3rd?

Some really good points been put forward, I think their is a few here that seem to be a bit blinkered, Rebecca is on a different level from the lot, comments like she doesnt move, you cant remember any of her songs are laughable, you are obviously paying to much attention to your own act and assuming its a one horse race. You go through all Rebecca's live shows and you will see the real star of the show, Cowell has known this from day one. Matt has sung his bootcamp song very early into this competition, which surprised me considering he sing it really well, thought he may have kept it for the final or later on in the competition, considering he has sung this twice and we are only halfway, both are nearly the same price. Rebecca has been the most consistent, been given all the early slots so far, some dodgy songs, been kept very low key in the press. I think she could be one of the strongest acts ever to come out these shows.
By:
melv
When: 09 Nov 10 06:12
I must say the early slots are a bit of a worry. But the massive ramping form Simon and the rest of his poodles must go some way to couteract that.

Not much to say about Rebecca in the press. She an amazing singer, she is better the Leona, "Beyonce says Rebbecca is  better than Aretha". "Aretha sends a message from beyond the grave to say Rebbecca is the best singer there ever could be. God concurs!"
