At least I doubt he will go much further...

I think he might surprise again.
His thumbs up on the itv site are way up on last week.
Most of the others are the same or down.

Beware the quiet man...

Around for a good few weeks yet.  The star of last night's show.  In with a shout.
Report five leaves left October 17, 2010 1:37 PM BST
Last week he 14/16. This week he's 8/14.
Report LOU MACARIS TARTAN B October 17, 2010 1:40 PM BST
What does that mean Figgy?
Report five leaves left October 17, 2010 1:44 PM BST
Probably nothing Lou ;)

The videos of their performances on the itv have a thumbs up or down option.

Last week John was ranked 14th of 16 on number of thumbs up, this week 8th of 14.
Report LOU MACARIS TARTAN B October 17, 2010 1:46 PM BST
Five

Strange that.  We've all got our own opinions obviously but to put him 8/14 is very harsh in anyone's book surely.
Report GeorgeBrush October 17, 2010 1:48 PM BST
Total number of thumbs up, or %age of thumbs up though?
Report five leaves left October 17, 2010 1:49 PM BST
Yep, I'd have him Top 3 on last night, but it's an improvement on last week and he wasn't B3 then.

Nicolo was bottom last week and this week it's stormy boy.
It was often way out last year though.
Report five leaves left October 17, 2010 1:50 PM BST
I've just counted total thumbs up GB.

Last week when I took a look later than this, John only had 443. This week he has over 600 already.
Report noveltybettingaddict October 17, 2010 2:01 PM BST
I really think john has potential to emerge from nowhere in the public's eyes but these next few weeks - even tonight - is gonna be tough for him. The judges aren't crazy for him so he can't slip in that bottom three or that's it
Report GeorgeBrush October 17, 2010 3:59 PM BST
Not far off Zoom. Full of craft and subtlety

Little wonder he won that mobo.
Report GeorgeBrush October 17, 2010 4:01 PM BST
And passion of course, which they are always banging on about

Like I said on the thread last night, it's a reverse version of crying wolf

John's positive comments are lost amongst the ridiculous hyperbole for others, and him being fantastic doesn't fit the agenda anyway
Report Mikeeey October 17, 2010 4:58 PM BST
agree with Zoom that it was "so much more intelligent than Mary's belting"- as I said yesterday, John is too good for the XFactor.  Cannot see him beating Mary but I would sooner by a record by John than Mary
Report noveltybettingaddict October 17, 2010 5:18 PM BST
Isn't it a shame that a nice guy with such a great voice can be considered "too good for X Factor" and essentially hasn't got much of a chance of winning! As Cheryl said, if you turn the lights out on all of the contestants - john is easily one of the top vocal talents. I know that if he clings on in there, he can go far - but these early weeks are a real stich up for him, having to compete with comedy crap. The judges unfortunately don't know real talent when they see it and will vote him out if he's in the sing off. It's a shame that they are driven by publicity rather than the real talent on their own bloody show!

novelty....if you're betting on this you have to accept the rules of the game.at the end of the day they are looking to make money from whoever wins and that is how the winner will be picked...it's the public who will be buying their songs and the public will decide who wins....rightly or wrongly
Report Cider October 17, 2010 5:29 PM BST
The money is in the soap opera/circus.

Any royalties or whatever pale into insignificance when compared to the tv money.

They want to control to a certain extent who wins, but it isn't to make money out of music sales, it's to perpetuate the myth of success.
Report dananderson October 17, 2010 5:30 PM BST
was tremedous yesterday
Report noveltybettingaddict October 17, 2010 5:31 PM BST
But come on, im right when i say the judges don't know real talent - and sometimes this fact backfires on them!!! Brookstein, Ward and Jackson - all pretty much failed since winning. Leona was a true success and alexandra seems to be going well at the moment. Time will obviously tell on Joe.

The point im making is that the judges' don't seem to have the ability to look long-term and beyond the obvious. John is a bit of a nobody now because of having no publicity - but this doesn't mean he wouldn't end up making the most money in the long term. They are too interested in the here and now. And that really bugs me.

ie selling the dream.
Similar to the travesty of selling lottery tickets to the deluded benefit munching chavs who think that they have a chance of pulling the jackpot.

novelty...you are right about the judges, they all are either manafactured pop stars or manage manafactured acts....i mean how many proper bands (examples weather you like them or not like the killers, kasabian, coldplay, kings of leon green day) have louis or simon discovered ?....i would suggest none.

all they are bothered about is their act has a modocum of success that last about 6 months after the next years competition starts.
Report Mikeeey October 17, 2010 5:40 PM BST
the judges are selected by Cowell and I guess it is must be a requirement that they cannot spot real talent.  They can then make Cowell look like the 'musical genius' that may commentators believe he is.  If there was a judge on there that knew what they were talking about, it could expose Cowell as the ignoramous that he really is.
Report Cider October 17, 2010 5:44 PM BST
Cowell is a marketing genius, he knows little about music.

Some of the crap Cowell came out with last night was quite frankly embarrassing. Making it out that some of those acts could be number one etc next week was just ridiculous. He over hyped Danyl last year to the point where people didn't like it. The same could happen with One Direction if he keeps on like that.
Report noveltybettingaddict October 17, 2010 5:54 PM BST
If you watch clips from the first series final, G4 and Brookstein still get criticism for their performances! That would never happen now. Too much cringeworthy praise.
Report bustarhymes October 17, 2010 5:59 PM BST
may be coincidental [;)] but seeing that this year you can download on itunes simon is hardly critising any act.his remarks after cher's performance was embarrassing.
