He's won me a good few quid over the years.

OK, so his World Cup predictions haven't born too much fruit - so what?  It's a cup competition ffs.

His write ups and analysis are superb - not to mention the time and effort he puts in.

Great write up (pictures and presentation), brutal tipping.  I really can't see the problem with people highlighting this....in fact I think it's useful and helpful do so.

I actually thought he would be on himself, holding his hands up in self-depreciating manner but that appears not to be his style.

Report jed.davison July 11, 2014 9:33 PM BST
I said this on another thread, but since you have persisted, I'll say it again:

I've been contributing - if that's the right word - to this forum since it first started, and in all that time Marychain has been here, helping people with his analysis of various sports and doing the research for those people who can't be bothered to do it themselves.

There's no denying he's had a bad tournament with his tips. We've all got it wrong occasionally, but there has to be an element of caveat emptor whenever you back anything tipped up by someone else.

The fact remains though that Marychain has a very good record in all types of sport with his tips on here over a very long period, and if I were the sort of person who took other people's views as gospel and had followed all his tips, I'd be prepared to forgive him a bad World Cup.

I really don't know why you feel the need to start such a thread, but to be honest it reflects more badly on you than his incorrect views on this World Cup reflect on him.

Advised Liverpool for the title at 1/6

jed, would you care to put up some evidence of your comments?
Report jed.davison July 11, 2014 11:12 PM BST
You must have a different understanding of the word 'advice' to me mate.

Evidence? This is not a court of law, all I know is what I said above. Marychain has been a valuable member of this forum for at least a decade as far as I'm aware - I can remember him posting many decent tips, but I can't remember him ever starting a thread to gloat over someone's bad calls.
Report Charlton2005 July 11, 2014 11:21 PM BST
maybe your interpretation of gloating is different to mine.

the OP said "sorry" and i said "nothing personal"

the reason this thread was started was to alert the uneducated masses about being mugs and unfortunately that means pointing out to them the forum idiots.

I don't know mary and i would call my own brother the same thing if he dared put up such unadulterated shyte, masquerading  as science ("who wants my excel workbooks") on a such a regular and consistent basis

but it's a free country and if you're happy with it, carry on. I'm just here to point out to others that objectively by virtually any measure, mary is a bullsh1tting moron
Report jed.davison July 11, 2014 11:27 PM BST
I see, so your rudeness is just altruism in disguise. How foolish of me not to realise that.

And of course it's nothing personal, I'm sure the 'bullsh1tting moron' understands that.
Report jed.davison July 11, 2014 11:36 PM BST
Sorry charlton, I didn't realise you were a Liverpool fan, or I would have made the usual allowances for your idiocy and nastiness.

Report Charlton2005 July 11, 2014 11:42 PM BST
the difference, as has been pointed out by the OP, is that I apologized to most/all the folk who I had criticized regarding my comments about Rodgers. If mary came on and said he was wrong in every one of his circa 15 tips including a couple of shorties then we wouldn't have to warn the public about him.
Report Charlton2005 July 11, 2014 11:46 PM BST
for the record i would have absolutely no problem ttt'ing the stupid threads i started and point them out to whoever might be interested to see what i know or don't know

Rubbish thread. Don't take a moments notice mary, keep posting.
Report Ozymandius July 12, 2014 8:17 AM BST
why the over-reaction? no one has said he should stop posting, no one has said his tips haven't been good in the past.

Fact remains when someone makes 20 odd predictions and all of them fail, a light should be cast upon it, irrespective of past performance.

Especially if he hasn't bothered to come on and hold his hands up over his humiliating performance, which I think most of us would have done.

Had a few spats with marychain, mostly me pulling his leg and him failing to realise it, but it's apparent to anyone with half a brain cell, recently failed tips or not, he knows what he's talking about when it comes to betting and sport in general, but in particular Cycling which I detest with a passion for reasons I can't be bothered to go into

Creating a thread highlighting terrible bets is comical when the poster is asking for it and timing is right, as with comedy in general, I do it myself and have had it done to me but to highlight his bets in this fashion given the sheer amount of effort he's put in in the write ups is nothing short of retarded and only makes you look the loser. Why would he show his face to answer to people who are just waiting here reading to laugh in itCrazy
Report Ozymandius July 13, 2014 11:46 AM BST

Peeple with lives don't usually go to the time or effort to import pictures and graphics into previews on here in my expeience.  As pretty as they are.

Plus he still has time to chat away on the Cycling forum.

It is similar behaviour to the likes of Judopr1ck;  never reappears on a losing thread. If there had been a winner, he is first on to congratulate himself.
Report Off the toe July 13, 2014 12:31 PM BST
I'm not usually one to get involved with these things and generally keep myself to myself.

However MaryChain is one of the guys who plainly puts in work and analysis with his suggestions and they are upto you if you agree or disagree with them.

As Mes says his cycling analysis is a good read and whilst I don't generally follow his tips, I use the basic premise based upon his info which I find helpful.

The diligence he applies to his football tips is also with solid foundation.  Again you follow these or you don't...sometimes i do.  Sometimes they come in, sometimes they don't...that's life.

And as you say it's easy to rib someone on here and for it to be misconstrued.

That said MC is one of the people on here whose opinion I respect and is a decent sounding bloke IMO..

Good luck today

Shall we get back to talking about betting on football?

I fancy some high scoring away wins today (win + BTTS prices)
Sheff United 5/1 Grinor (12/1)Grin
Sheff Weds 20/23 Sad or (27/10) Sad
Coventry 19/10 Grin or (15/4) Grin
Huddersfield 20/23 Grinor (29/10) Grin
Peterborough Evens Sad or (5/2) Sad
Leicester 12/5 Sad or (11/2) Sad

The brave might fancy joining me in a win + BTTS trixie on Sheff United, Coventry and Leicester at 12/1, 15/4 and 11/2 respectively.

There you go. I'm not bothered about any of the "naive forumites" as you call them ken. If any of them came in with me they cleared up. £10 trixie produced winners at 12/1 and 15/4 and returned £617.50.

Only just seen this thread. Hold my hands up, absolute shyte. If anyone followed then I apologise.

In my defence on the spreadsheets which seem to have received particular criticism they did were not analysing anything or saying who to back, merely saying who played where, how far they had to travel and what the conditions were like in each location. This was an effort saving tool for other people to use, nothing more.

Those of you who said the whole preview thread was a waste of time and effort are spot on. It is a mistake I won't make again. I'm not going to resign from the forum in a fit of pique or anything as dramatic, I will just be spending more time doing other things instead.

For those of you who care (probably no-one) I am doing Stage 18 of the Tour de France (145km through the Pyrenees) to raise money for Brain Tumour Research, it's the Etape du Tour on 20th July.

I would put up the link for my justgiving site but asking for money on the back of 20/20 losing tips seems somewhat callous. If anyone wants to donate you can pm me and I will give you the link.

Anyway, thanks for the discussion and the banter, catch you all anon
