I bet you would have said that about any one that thought the USA would beat Spain. To win at this game you have go against the crowd. Don't follow the other 99% of the sheep because they loose. |

Why Serbia?

If i`m predicting a shock we`re talking 25s or bigger.
Serbia qualified well, they seem solid and have a mix of experience and youth. Don`t know if Rafa`s interest in Milan Jovanovic is a good thing! Group is not easy but they should be capable of qualifying. |

I would certainly agree with the point you started the thread with BBJ i.e. about England's price being very short by comparison with Spain's price.
Spain have been a joy to watch over the last couple of years. I hope the playing surfaces in SA are good enough to do that standard of football justice. It could be a WC that particularly suits the hard working, well organised sides that thrive on a high energy game. I could see sides like the USA and South Korea doing better than their current odds would imply, without being quite good enough to go all the way. Spain have enough star players to outclass most of their potential opposition, but perhaps it should be asked how many of those stars will be fully fit and mentally ready for the WC after experiencing two years of very intensive international and club football, without having much of an off-season at all in which to recuperate during that time? Quite a few of the Spanish stars are carrying injury niggles at present. It is a similar story for many of the other sides in the WC, particularly the European teams, but the lack of much recuperation time for the Spanish players over the last two summers could be especially telling. Serbia have crept under the radar a bit, particularly given how well they qualified for the Finals. I am not sure they should be, for example, almost three times the price of Portugal for the winner market on here, or almost four times the price of France. Neither Portugal or France were particularly impressive in qualifying. |

I really don't know how USA managed to beat Spain, I guess they are entitled to an off day though, I don't think it is a competition that is taken too seriously. This is my point though. the difference between winners and losers. Winners don't have off days or at least hardly ever when it comes to the really big games. When they need to perform they nearly always pull in out of the bag. This is the difference between Brazil, Italy and Germany and the likes of England, Spain and Holland. They have flattered to deceive to many times and usually find a way of losing.Who won the confederation Cup last year was in Spain No .it was Brazil one of the usual suspects again. I just personally think this Spanish team at the moment is the best of my generation and in a way I hope they win the world cup (barring miracles of England winning it) because they deserve it and are a joy to watch. I wish Spain all the luck in the world. I think they might need it.Another thing about Spain is they are crap at penalties. Even England managed to beat Spain at penalties. They also won the European championship in 1964 and of course we know they didn't win the world cup 2 years later.England did. This is one trend that I do hope holds up even though it will cost me money. |

wot price now would you back at ???

I'd much rather take the 5/2 not to qualify for the second round than the unbelievably optimistic 11/2 outright to win the world cup (after a first match defeat) they are now.

Spain are (were today)"massive value" for the bookies.
Not for me. |

spain win the world cup, imo. no torres for most of the game. dominated 100% and lost. switzerland defended excellently, honduras and chile wont. and for that matter neither will brazil. spain took the swiss for granted and were careless at the back going for goals, which they wont need to do once they get to the knock out stages.

and no i havent backed them, i havent backed anybody. there are about 10 teams who could win it, its not something id have any interest in betting on. but at the prices, if i had to back, id back spain even now.

![]() No team that has lost it's first match has gone onto win the World Cup. There has been over 300 first matches in all the World Cups. That's some record they've got to buck. |

No I'm right here. See my other posts. I did back Villa for the golden boot so as long as he wins it I'm ok.

Nice to see the team with the best players win the WC.They proved they had the bottle to win a big tournament 2 years ago and were full of CH league winners to boot. Some people chose to ignore that and use the fact that they had never won the WC before and had bottled it occasionally.Glad i chose to ignore that poor reasoning and realised that this Spain team is the best they have had.Yes they had a bit of luck on the way,but overall they were the best side and well deserved it.
Well done Spain |

good call Big Bucks John.

Good call. Didn't think the Spaniards had the guts/belief for it and backed the Dutch and Germans at the QF stage to go all the way. But totaly agree that the best and most talented team won in the end, which is satisfying and just.
