I'm surprised you can spell "intellectual" !!!!

What happened to YOUR "apple is overbought" and "I'm looking at other opportunities" post, $100s lower on the share price ago? Or do you, due to being brain dead, suffer from short term memory loss?

Back to yesterday's blow out numbers though:

I don't know, perhaps it's all the rubbish propaganda I'm being bombarded with every day (anyone pay attention to Sir Mervyn King's "don't despair" speech the other day? - if that didn't make you throw up your lunch nothing ever will) that makes me roll my eyes in disbelief, but colour me sceptical. Or perhaps it's because every data point released by the government and the BoE is manipulated and proven bogus once you look past the headline, but something just doesn't sit right with me here.

They report blow out numbers, with their biggest market (US) declining 6pc in sequential units sold and with the largest sequential gain in units sold (26pc) in.......wait for it......Europe.  Hmmmm.........

http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/320193/000119312512021833/d287503dex992.htm

I need to look into this further but may be there's a chance that all those Greeks taking their money out of Greek banks decided to all buy iPads rather than see their money diminish by being converted  back to drachmas, or perhaps austerity is a code word for "buy an iPhone". It's a possibility........
Report polybot January 25, 2012 12:54 PM GMT
look up up the definitions of "overweight" and "overbought" dimwit.
only read the first few lines of your ramblings so can't comment further but glad to have resurrected you from your receivership.
hope this isn't a dead cat bounce.
Report Menelaus January 25, 2012 1:59 PM GMT
Yeah, my mistake, you weren't *REALLY* looking for other opportunities, you were just playing with definitions // snark

As of the rest of my post, well, you just didn't bother reading it. I understand. /// more snark

Some of us read beyond the headlines, you halfwit. But, wait, wait, how about you entertain us with another "apple vs. silver" cage match? Silly
Report polybot January 25, 2012 2:23 PM GMT
not playing with definitions, overweight and overbought have already been defined, like i say, look them up sometime.
only thing i'm playing with is you.
and oh yes, apple v silver cage match update just around the corner....

42 percent annualized irrelevant though considering i'm overweight in apple derivatives if that's any consolation.

though conservative derivatives bought in oct (APR12 400s) now up around 100 percent

That's 5 posts on the trot there fanboy, touch a nerve did I?

Since you are shamelessly aftertiming trades from Oct despite posting the contrary ("it's overbought" and "I'm looking at other opportunities"), can I shamelessly post that a bought a boat load of BAC at $5.64, closed the trade today, and barely waited a month to make more money than you'll ever see in your lifetime, or is that violate the rules of whatever perverted world you seem to be living in?
Report Mrben January 26, 2012 3:14 AM GMT
what you should shamelessly post melly is that you bought gold at 1680 and  still had it at 1522.

you are a complete clown melly.

your whole life is a fantasy melly so why not your quotes eh?
here's what was ACTUALLY said, what's bizarre is that after being told repeatedly you STILL don't understand what Overweight means

Sorry menelaus et al, no more AAPL buys, already overweight and not cheap enough.
Report•Quote Menelaus • August 10, 2011 2:34 PM BST
I'm shocked, what happened?!?!? Did you finally get the memo from Bernanke that ipads will not be used as the next reserve currency??? Can all those analysts who tend to be conservative have it wrong??? I'm shocked, I'm shocked I tell you, is there nothing sacred any more???
Report•Quote Mrben • August 10, 2011 3:05 PM BST
very nice results there poly. You may now take a holiday as a reward.May I suggest somewhere headonistic and exotic[smiley:crazy]
Report•Quote polybot • August 10, 2011 3:42 PM BST
Aapl still well priced at 360, but like i say, i already own a ton at lower levels, will probably add to option positions to trade though. Should be on its way to to 430 by october unless the wider market is derailed by pre election politics. Still mostly cash in the us account so looking for new ideas.
A holiday sounds good but not keen on some exotic third world place like London or Mogadishu, maybe a road trip somewhere...
Report•Quote Menelaus • August 10, 2011 5:19 PM BST
Wow, things must be booming where you live. Leaving a $70 (almost 20pc) expected profit on the table just a few short months from now, stay in cash and look for new ideas. I'm in awe.
Report•Quote Menelaus • August 10, 2011 5:39 PM BST
I could have phrased that better.

You're not a buyer although you expect returns of about 20pc in the next two months but are rather sitting in cash looking for new ideas.....in this environment !!! I'm still in awe.
Report•Quote polybot • August 11, 2011 7:01 AM BST
don't worry menelaus, not expecting any ideas from you, good, new or otherwise. not that you'd need any ideas as your cash from profits is nil. Your total cash is probably nil.
Report•Quote Menelaus • August 11, 2011 8:17 AM BST
I already gave you lots of ideas, and I'm starting to get the feeling you are listening. Otherwise why abandon an expected 20pc return in the next two months to "look for new ideas"

HINT : Apple insiders have been selling

....while I'm on a roll a-hole.

So you think you're smarter than Apple insiders fanboy? Then explain this......

Since January, Apple insiders have sold about $75M worth of stock, and there have been NO purchases. From April 2010 to November 2010, there were over $100M worth of Apple insider sales.

http://www.secform4.com/insider-trading/320193.htm

Why? Did they sell to buy that 3rd Ferrari they always wanted but could never afford? Why are insiders selling, not buying? Don't they read the same analysts who tend to be conservative like you that apple is going to the moon? Don't they know that broke Americans are lining up around the street to buy ipads?

They do, but they know something that you still can't grasp a-hole. Their share price, where it's come from and where it's going, has nothing to do with ipads, it never did. You better start getting down to your knees that the Chairman can step in so we can avoid this banking crisis version 3 that is unfolding otherwise it's going to be a rough ride to the bottom for everyone.

Oh, and did I mention you are an @*@*#? And don't bother responding, I won't waste another second of my valuable time setting an dimwhit, obsessed @*#@* like you straight on here.

As far as exposing illiterate goes, you better come up with something to replace your "buy apple" screams on here otherwise your reputation will be in tatters......oh, wait, never mind, it already is.
Report•Quote polybot • August 15, 2011 9:35 AM BST
my poor, dear, sorry, sad sack menelaus,
let this be your first step to financial literacy, I cut and pasted it from wikipedia but if it's still too baffling for you then let me know and I will look for something simpler. One step at a time....
Overweight — Suppose that an investor holds 15% of his/her investment in Technology stocks then, the investor's stock portfolio is 5% overweight in Technology stocks.
Suppose further that the investor is advised by his broker or financial advisor that Technology should be "overweight" then, the investor is being advised to hold more investments in Technology, as a percentage, than the weight of that asset in the index/market. i.e., more than 10% by value of Technology shares in this example.

My bad, it's not a perverted world you live in, it's just warped.

You spent all that time to prove what precisely?

You are a fantasist, I get it, enough said, you didn't have to waste all that time.
Report polybot January 27, 2012 12:27 AM GMT
so, your argument to being identified as a fantasist is to yell back "No, YOU'RE a fantasist!".
that's debate at the level of a 7 year old.
but at least the receivers have left you that.
Report Menelaus January 27, 2012 6:00 AM GMT
No dimwit, the "debate" started about something you never bothered addressing.

They reported blow out numbers in Europe. Unless you were in a comma and just regained consciousness, those numbers look suspect.

Recession (depression in some sovereigns), austerity, rising unemployment, currency crisis in some sovereigns, declining consumer spending, declining business confidence and declining GDP growth everywhere doesn't translate into a stunning sequential gain of 26pc in units sold in Europe.

But what the feck, Citi lied about their numbers, BAC fudged their numbers, Caterpillar just used the most innovative accounting ever invented and no one is calling them on it. Why would anyone bother calling out Apple, when every major hedge fund benefits from the earnings report?

Someone will be the bag holder sooner or later, just make sure it's not you.
Report Menelaus January 27, 2012 6:21 AM GMT
I do have a question for you though.

Where is that $100 or so billion Apple is now sitting on? Is it cash in a bank (I'm sure if that's the case distributed in a number of financial institutions)? Is it in cash and "money good" securities? Seriously, where is it and what's it in?

I have done some research on this, and I know how it's reported on their income statement, but so far I haven't been able to find a definitive answer to the above question.
Report polybot January 27, 2012 7:38 AM GMT
cash, corporate securities, municipal securities, us treasury/agency securities, non-us government securities, cds, commercial paper, mutual funds.
another 50 billion to come in 2012.
Report Menelaus January 27, 2012 8:55 AM GMT
Do you know the breakdown?

Report Menelaus January 27, 2012 2:19 PM GMT
I finally tracked someone down in their Investor Relations group. For a company that's done such a fantastic job with their branding, it's surprising how difficult it is to get a hold of anyone.

No CDS, no agency paper.

I didn't think they could be involved in the CDS business, nor how could they be considered "money good" unless their counterparty is the FED. Nor did I think even Apple had the arrogance to explain to their investors that they are sitting on $100bn in cash without paying a dividend, but they are buying fannies and freddies, when the only way those GSEs exist is due to constant and ongoing massive life support from the US tax payers.

They added $16bn to that stash last quarter so that "another 50 billion to come in 2012" pretty much assumes blow out numbers from here to infinity. I have a feeling someone will call them on it if they continue to report stunning blow out sequential unit sales out of Europe of all places.

Good luck with that.

should read CDs (certificates of deposit). i don't follow the exact breakdown, it's a conservative portfolio.
a sensible investor would be very pleased with Apple's performance, dividend should not be factored in.
4 similar quarters plus returns on cash will cover 50 billion.

not sure what you're groping for here, apple has nothing to gain by fudging a number that analysts have historically failed to fully grasp, and it already has a single figure forward p/e BEFORE backing out cash.
a buy back or dividend wouldn't justify the current price, it would lift it. ie not factored in.

and given your broad opinion, isn't contacting IR a waste of both their and your time?
Report Menelaus January 28, 2012 12:06 AM GMT
cds you initially posted is a looong way from CDs but yes, I accept it as a typo, let's move on.

Where you fall short is stating "apple has nothing to gain by fudging a number that analysts have historically failed to fully grasp" and accepting at face value, for a reported number that JUST DOES NOT MAKE SENSE.

You accept it at face value, I don't. It's my nature to question things that look odd, and haven knows we've seen our share of them lately (Have you seen the latest French GDP numbers? Monty Python came up with stuff that were way less funny)

To each his own and good luck going forward.
