Both of these two are decent enough players and Muchova has knocked out 3 former slam winner in the 2nd week, only 5th ever player in the open era to do thatbut they are no where near the standard of yesteryear, slam finals in the 80's were mostly filled up of multi slam winners like Navratilova and Evert, the 90s with Graf, Seles, Sanchez Vicario and Hingis, 2000's Williams sisters, Henin and Clijsters, 2010's Sharapova and Serena with your Halep's and Garbines to a lesser extent. But last few years you've had a good few random winners and finalists like Vondrousova, Krejcikova, Collins, Raducanu, Kenin, Paolini and for me the most random of the lot, Jennifer BradyMuchova and Noskova are simply apart of that recent trend, good players but no where near World Class players.
Brady was not that random. She had a really consistent year or so before injuries ruined her career. She was what Pegula later became, but only for a brief time due to the aforementioned injury. Was also screwed over by the frozen ranking points, should have been something like no 3 but never even cracked the top 10.
I do agree with your overall point though. I rate Muchova higher than the others, but there's still some randomness about her.
