staro losing to world number 148 says a lot more about how **** ryba was than anything else. there's a reason she's ranked where she is and like most its to do with inconsistency. ryba just had an absolute nightmare and that reflects far worse on her than staro who just took advantage of rybas poor level and then lost in the next round because her level dropped and the other player played well.
By:
so the short version of the above is, fair enough staro lost. completely unacceptable that ryba did.

that shank from Michelsen a few points ago
![]() followed by a umpire checking a line call, not using hawk eye in 2026 so painful and dated to watch. |

jodar could end up regretting not serving out set two. really should have been two sets up and now at 1-1 its game on
By:
Jodar took a well needed, tactical bathroom break and that damp squib on an ended to the set, straight into the net when he had an open court.
By:
This match is nothing to do with quality, Jodar way below his natural level allowing Michelsen in with a chance.
This really is all about who can handle the heat better, Jodar is suffering more by the looks of it. |
By:
surprising mes. youd think jodar would handle it the better of the two
By:
and broken straight away
By:
jees. bit of a collapse from jodar here
By:
if michelsen beats jodar on a european clay court i swear ive seen it all. should not be possible because michelsen is not good on clay
By:
But that's the thing.
It' not just the actual heat and how it's raising some players body temperatures more than others, which seems to be affecting Jodar more than Michelsen. It's that the heat is making these clay courts play like hard courts, just like the heatwave we had at Wimbledon last year that did the same thing that allowed for Swiatek to win the tournament, when ordinarily she is a fairly average grass court player at least compared to how good she is on clay and really would be no where near the final, but the back of the courts were so dry she had so much time to set herself and even run around her forehands, when usually the ball is hitting low and quick. These clay courts at the French are making the ball bounce higher and move alot faster through the air, which is suiting big 6ft4 hitters like Michelsen. In other words, Jodar in real trouble here. |
By:
And American's are all about hard hitting on hard courts, that's all they grew up with.
By:
yep. jodar bang in trouble now. as i said hell regret not serving out the 2nd set which he really should have done

Sorana bagelling Solana

By:
sierra really not that good so not a massive surprise
By:
dont see jodar winning in five so if he loses this set the match is done
By:
Andreeva quietly going about her business, into the next round.
By:
surprisingly serene mes as well
By:
Sori is playing mugs, but these are some impressive scorelines. This gives you a clue about how a better ranking helps, she's been lucky with other results too. No more playing Sabalenka in R3 :)
By:
Solana is the best, highest ranked women in the whole of Argentina, Lys third best in German, some respect on their please

Carreno Busta cruising, though it does not matter what he does in his career, he will always be remembered for that mental breakdown against Nishikori at the Aussie open a few years ago, that'll live in infamy.

Double bagel incoming for Sorana

this is WTA, not men's World Cup 1986, 90 or 2014.
By:
is it too late to move the WTA Finals to Bucharest?
By:
This would be her 5th ever double bagel of a player, albeit one was in 3 sets. And excluding those mug 10k events. Would also be the highest ranked player she'd have double bagelled. Peak Sorana.

By:
dont forget the us open semi the year djokovic was kicked out mes. that was fairly muggy from carreno
By:
he was just a bystander, the images him throwing that enormous h1ssy fit will live with him forever.

By:
michelsen about to go 2-1. cant see jodar recovering now
By:
really blew his chance not serving out for a two set lead
By:
Certainly not in a great spot tobes !

By:
Argentina just starting to come to terms with their R16 loss to Romania at the WC94 and now this happens.
By:
Novak will come out flying trying to win in 3 sets to conserve energy and get out of the heat, Fonseca will nick a set and then it becomes a war of attrition, Novak will just pull through as Fonseca's 5 set epic against Primark will catch up with him.
By:
jodar about to frank being broken when serving for the second set and then being broken at the start of the third, with being broken at the start of the fourth. absolutely muggy
