it was very out a character for him. Only his 2nd tap ever, and for that other one I believe he really was injured.

Market thinks Ruud is done here (leg issue).

Basel not happy with its 3rd retirement in 4 matches today.
By:
That one cost me a bit, but can't complain too much after benefitting from the other two.
By:
there was no sign of injury, he just tapped so he could go home early, should be a fine

Booooo Rybakina!

what heroics to beat both Leylah and Vicky in Tokyo with a weak back!

Shuai tapped.

Fokina going into the 1st set TB 1.5x (Humbert just sent off for new racket strings). 1.3x Fokina starting the 2nd set when market realises Humbert isn't tapping at the end of the set

Another tap in Basel.

Tappy tap tap

Lost out on nice profits there, but at least I kept the tap loss very small due to minimizing potential loss. Odd time to tap just after a hold. I thought if it was going to happen, it would be at 0-2 or 0-3.
By:
Yeah. Strange timing. Looked very ominous after the initial break given how he was slapping so many errors long but then played out 2 more games.

I would like to see a list of retirements by nationalities on the men's main tour going back to the year 2000, without knowing I'd guess the French would be top of the list.
By:
would be my guess also mes
By:
always end up thinking of the monty python description
By:
Certainly more likely to be the French rather than the British with them having about 10 more top100 players at any given time during that period.
By:
Radacanu and Draper doing their best to add to the tally ! (Though not sure if they tap a lot, or are just out injured quite a bit)
By:
You can divide the total number of retirements by the total number of players to get an average per player, the French will still probably win.
By:
Draper is definitely made a of glass thought, but he comes from a very wealthy family so probably just doesn't have the heart to fight like a true working class hero would.

been enjoying wta this week. absolute dross muggery in these lower level tournaments. match after match after match has seen a player all set to win if they could just serve out failing to do so, with the latest in the line of chokers being grabher. served to win and got to 40-30, didn't win another point, then served to win again and managed to get broken from 40-15.
By:
and so a tiebreak to decide it. toss a coin because grabher and her oppo are both mugs

Feels like Japan would end up high on such a list with Morita, Nishioka, Nishikori all tapping a lot. France has Bartoli and Monfils as notorious tappers, but they also have a lot of players that don't tap much which draws the average down.
By:
never made any sense why Monfils tapped so much, he looks like a specimen, maybe it was the way he was training.
By:
Constantly running into advertisement boards doesn't help in staying injury-free.
By:
all part of the show edy
I did google this question but no real answer, saw a player called Stevenson who was the most retired for a wta player for a period of time, I'd never heard of her. |

![]() You do not know the legendary 7-6,6-7,6-7 that Alexandra Stevenson and Alexandra Muller played in the first round of qualification of 2013 Quebec? |

By:
A full three sets of finest WTA without a single break of serve!
By:
in non-hipster circles more known for making Wimbledon semis in 1999.
By:
I honestly never heard of her so imagine my surprise to see she peaked at 18 in the world, but then realised that was 1999, and the only players I knew back then were Henman, Sampras and Agassi. She seemed to have a real high in her teens then just played a load of ITF's for years, and I never watch or bet on low level tennis.

Quebec was a primetime northern American WTA main tour tournament.
By:
In fact it was the primest of prime north american indoor tournament.

re Monfils, it also has to be taken into consideration how many matches he has played. He has tapped in 28 matches out of 1040, so in 2.7% of all matches. Now compare that to Paula Badosa who has tapped in 35 of 564 matches, so in 6.2% matches. Now lots of that is ITF for Badosa, but even if you remove that she has a higher percentage than Gael. Bartoli was 4.0%.

Knowing this is still hipster stuff. |
