Katie "I feel a special connection to Japan" Boulter surely isn't playing her best tennis there.

They have a female interviewer for the Tokyo on court interviews and then a male translator. Weird set-up. Didn't see either on screen so can't tell if the female interviewer is the happy Tokyo lady. She sounded up-beat enough.

Darderi hobbling. Can ballbash, but it's unlikely that will get it done.
|

By:
I was hoping for some free monies on Nakashima, but Darderi not looking as finnish so I got out. Market still the same as when he started hobbling badly.
|
|
By:
Would say Nak is a lay at 1.07 though with Darderi being seemingly ok and Nak always being a mug.

I saw Fine Gael trending on X, and I thought "now what has Gael Monfils done to cause such outrage?" but it wasn't about him at all and instead about an Irish political party named Fine Gael.

Olivier van Lindonk @Lindonk
·Oct 19 Replying to @Taylor_Fritz97 and @jackdraper0 It is also time to start changing to new balls every 7 games, not 9. The Rule is 30+ years old and rackets, strings, athletes have all improved so much that balls are unplayable in games 7, 8, and 9. SvenTennis.eth @sventennis ·4h Totally agree with my fellow Dutchman! Although it was always part of my coaching advice to break in either game 8 or 9 due to the poor quality of balls! I am happy to give it up for better overall quality and player friendly solutions! |
|
By:
Interesting to learn that Sven adviced his players to only try breaking in the last return game before new balls are brought out.
|
|
By:
I know. I'm almost tempted to go check out some old Maria Sharapova matches now.
|
|
By:
But it's good insight. Sometimes when we see six easy holds in a row, then a break AND an immediate rebreak, it might not be because the player is a choker but indeed because the balls are at the end of their career as professional tennis balls.

José Morgado @josemorgado ·32m Aneke Rune on Michael Rasmussen, a former cycling star who admitted to have doped during most of his career. “I heard the cyclist Michael Rasmussen say that it was simply unacceptable that Holger wasn’t properly physically prepared in Shanghai, where he suffered from cramps in 35-degree heat with 80% humidity. I can only respond that given the history of the former Tour de France rider — who systematically used doping for 12 years, including EPO, growth hormone, testosterone, DHEA, insulin, IGF-1, cortisone, and blood transfusions — I’m quite certain that he would indeed be well prepared for a tennis tournament in Shanghai and a season consisting of 45 weeks of high-intensity work.” |

She made a few more good points as well about how the tour is basically flogging players to death with mandatory requirements for masters events and the financial consequences of missing them as well as being banned from a masters event for missing one and reduction in the annual share of profits.
I've said this for years, we often complain about players performance levels, a lot of the time it's pocket talk and we accuse players on tanking, the truth is they're knackered. The current rules are archaic and the ATP needs to focus on quality rather than quantity - but they wont because each tournament is too lucrative for them given what a broadcaster has paid and the sponsors for the event. So top 10/20 players like Rune just need to take the financial hit and focus on being as best prepared as possible for slams, the tour finals and Indian wells the biggest masters. He wont go hungry missing some innocuous masters events like Shanghai or Paris. Don't know how that former Danish cyclist, who I've never heard of, can even have the gumption to criticise anyone's fitness given he only excelled by his own admission, due to being pumped full of drugs via transfusions for over a decade. Maybe trying to make himself relevant. But one thing I've learned about Cyclists off of the back of the whole Lance Armstrong this, is just how incredibly arrogant and tone deaf they are, they just have no ability to read the room, their mindset is 'everyone was cheating so I wasn't cheating as it was a level playing field', except the cyclists who werent actually cheating or the the fact you're cheating the sport. Rune is still a mug though, I don't think he has the mentality to be the best, caves when things get tough. |

Medvedev went from having classics with Rafa and Novak to having them with Tien and Moutet, but at least he's still delivering lots of drama and entertainment.
