actually picked Sinner to win this pre tournament in my draw. You can disclude exhibitions in h2h's, but challengers should be included as they are competitve, so really the h2h is 10-5 Alcaraz rather than 9-5. Had a look yesterday and I think when Nadal was Sinner's age, 24.1, he'd played Novak 23 times compared to Sinner-Alcaraz 15 times, but Sincaraz could still break that record if there's no 3rd party who comes in and breaks them up, obviously Federer was there with the big 3 to slow it down, Murray a bit as well.
Alcatrash has yet to drop a set, nobody has won a slam without dropping a set for the last 20 slams going back to F020 played in October that year, rare feat. It's only been done 9 times in the open era in the men's, Nadal 4, Borg 3, Federer 2. Surprised Novak never done it. McEnroe been getting too carried away with ALcatrash, saying he's the best young talent he's ever seen, he would not have beaten the big 3 in their prime on their favourites surfaces, it's just recency bias nonsense. He's lost big finals to Oldvak on hard and clay and beats him in the slams because as the Djok said, he's tank is just half empty towards the end as you'd imagine it would be at his age. Could you imagine Novak in his prime losing to players aged 37/38 in any big final. The big 3 were just different level. |

Welcome Back Mes.
Who will win this? I don't have a clue, tbh. One thing I noticed is that the Final is due to start at 7.00 P.M. UK time. So, two hours earlier than yesterday's Womens Final, and one hour earlier than the Alcaraz v Djokovic semi-final. Just in case anyone misses the start. Not sure why they are mixing up the start times so much, but there you are. |

thanks des, think the women's final was later to be nearer to prime time for the US audience as an American was in the final, today two Europeans so they probably want a bigger audience over here as in general Americans only tune in to big sporting events when one of their own is playing, boatload of NFL matches today scheduled between 6pm-9.25pm UK time as well which they know most Americans will be watching rather than the tennis, so best to pander to audiences and sponsors over here.

yes. I thought it was worth pointing out, as a few people seemed to miss the start of Alcaraz - Djokovic semi-final the other day.

Heard the final is being delayed by half an hour because Trump is showing his Scottish instead of his German heritage again and will be late.

US Open Tennis
@usopen As a result of the security measures in place, and to ensure that fans have additional time to get to their seats, we have pushed the start time of today’s match to 2:30 pm ET. https://x.com/usopen/status/1964744162332602844 |

Line hasn't moved much. I sense further delays.

Is Donald gonna stay if this goes 5 hrs?

I really hope he brought his old man diapers.

Don't recall these kind of delays when the queen went to Wimbledon.

What a joke!
By:
Btw Caramba, I assume you have picked Sinner, because I have picked Alcaraz anyway, so I assume rest is irrelevant.

it's ridiculously unprofessional and amateurish to delay such a major sporting final by being as underprepared as they are due to so called security issues. Another reason why the US Open has always been seen as the runt of the litter out of the 4 major slams
By:
The crowd literally isn't even moving.
By:
Martina not happy about this delay.
By:
Changes Sinner and Alcaraz'a preperations as well, all major sports broadcasters around the world and their own TV schedules
By:
By:
Realistically they're either starting with half a crowd or it's getting delayed at least another 30+ minutes.
By:
Imagine the security issues that will arise at the World Cup next year in America, Trump's presence will probably delay that final as a sniper will look forward to trying to take him out in front of an audeince close to 2 biliion people.

Tim not happy about delay because this is the "pinnacle of our sport"
WTF ? wash yer mouth out, son. good grief ![]() |

Football stadiums are probably better equipped for it, there was no delay to Club World Cup Final.

Though it sounds they just were prepared very poorly for it, I've been to USO, it should be fine. I also not sure I get why they've got another security checkpoint to get in the stadium, to get into Flushing Meadows you have to go through airport security, or at least did in 2009, I assume you still do, so why do they need the same to get into Ashe?

We don't do this national anthem stuff at any other slam
By:
USA do it at everything though.

By:
usually when there's yanks involved
By:
There are yanks in the stadium.
By:
why do they not include challengers in h2h as if it didn't happen, it's a competitive match, ranking points etc

Anthem at the start of every NHL game and both if Canadian opposition.

I honestly can't seen anyone else winning a slam for as long as these two remain fit, Novak's race has been run, unless Fonseca emerges from the smoke shrouded in hype as a genuine prospect

oh, so it will come down to games, maybe even points.
