and same, haven't got round to watching the Cody one yet, just the Punk one. Punk's been doing some pretty good promos on RAW lately too, very entertaining stuff

it really feels like AEW is going to be out of business 2 years from now. this whole CM Punk saga has totally killed it

On the show they didn't show arena reactions, but I saw clips from the arena and there were CM Punk chants. Classic. Couldn't really tell how widespread they are but would have loved to see TK's face for that.

AEW has been on a downward slide since 2022 with Cody leaving and the first Punk injury and Brawl Out.
Hard to speculate on their future. If they get a good tv deal they will probably be fine, but with declining viewership and an overall cold product I'm not sure they will.
I do think they are reckless with their salary spendings and it doesn't feel like a stable business model. But Shahid Khan is super rich, to him these AEW numbers is not that big so as long as Tony wants to do this and Shadid is happy to finance it to keep Tony happy, I can see the company sticking around as long as they have any kind of tv deal with decent exposure.
Hard to really comment on their business when it's a private company and numbers aren't published, but just looking at it from the outside it doesn't look all that good with half empty arenas and such big spendings. Meltzer and Alvarez speculated on how much the two companies spend on salary compared to revenue (I think that was the number used) and they said WWE is just under 10% and AEW somewhere between 30-50% which is huge if accurate.

Good summary on AEW. Do you think Tony would keep going even with small crowds and 25% full arenas? I think that's the danger because as you point out, it's a really cold product right now

He should switch to smaller venues for now so at least the venues will be (close to) full and have great atmosphere.

did you attend caramba? overall thoughts on the show and mainly the Ospreay/MJF and Danielson/Strickland matches?? I thought the main event was extremely enjoyable with a fantastic feel-good ending!

no I did not attend and haven't watched any of it. I was excited about Ospreay/MJF, but most of the card didn't really appeal to me at all so didn't go.

no I have not. I watch very little wrestling these days. I have not watched an AEW match since I attended All In last year.

to go from attending All In to not even seeing any highlights, something must have pissed you off?

Last year had Punk, a nearly sold out stadium and quite a few matches I was excited about. This one had no Punk, just over 50% sold and 1 maybe 2 matches I was interested in seeing.
Tony Khan annoys me, but mostly it's the flippety wrestling. Maybe I have been listening to Jim and Brian too much. Re Danielson, I love the dude, but his going into convulsions selling which he has done a few times during his matches has put me off a bit. That's not the good kind of playing with emotions for me.

I haven't been listening to much wrestling media/podcasts lately so I wasn't really aware about what's been said about the event in the build-up etc. sometime early August I remembered AEW were meant to be doing a show at Wembley again so I checked the date and saw it was happening late August. I was intrigued to see how the event would do because I was aware that AEW had severely lost momentum over the last 12 months, especially surrounding CM Punk's exit from the company and how bad it made AEW/Tony Khan look. I myself had barely seen anything of AEW's stuff since around September/Octoberish last year. Anyway the Olympics was in full swing and then the new football season so I soon forgot all about the event happening. Fast forward to last Sunday around 7pm and I had a sudden thought "oh wow AEW were meant to have that Wembley show, I wonder how it went"... I checked the wiki page and saw that the event was happening at that very moment!

So I tried to find a way to watch it and I was successful and then watched the last 2 1/2 hours or so of the show. Some matches had been already so I didn't see the likes of Jericho, The Young Bucks at all. I joined just as a "Casino Gauntlet" match was starting. I saw that plus 4 more matches, and I found myself really enjoying the Ospreay/MJF match and the main event featuring Bryan Danielson was also really good because I find Danielson very likeable mainly due to his underdog story and his love of the wrestling business.

This was sort of like when you don't watch WWE for 9 months but then randomly catch the last 2 hours of Summerslam. To really enjoy wrestling I think it definitely helps to come at it with fresh eyes.

AEW did a Dynamite in Cardiff shortly before All In.
