Does anything help Laura? She didn't excell in the ITFs she has played either. she won a tournament in japan recently. which got her back inside the top 200. the winner:ue ratios are a mess, and enough confidence and she could get somewhere. |

A year ago I would have felt it was harsh but she's had enough time back playing now that there aren't many excuses

By:
yes, I know she won that, but it was on a surface not used on the tour against an incredibly weak field.
By:
But who did she beat, literally nobody. I saw the first match I saw of her after that vs Boserup that she hadn't really improved, just played a very weak ITF.
By:
beat the Japanese push-up champion
By:
The highest ranked player she beat there was Katie Boulter at 283.

Like someone like Laura has the advantage she has the money to go and vulture hard like that (I suspect they were getting funded by the LTA though as there were loads of Brits in those events). But in the long run is there any real benefit to that, it might bring up your ranking a bit, but it's pretty clear Laura is way out of her depth vs anyone in the top 100 right now.

tennis is a simple game ...

crossed posts.
my point i suppose is that she should be aiming top 150 through ITF grinding. and then top 120. And then GS qualies. These sniffs at the big time don't help with trying to keep that sort of focus. |

ll over the net and within the markings Laura ...

all the excitement i had about wimbledon is gone already
By:
The only benefit is if you're someone like Rybarikova who played them because she was coming back from injury and needed to a ranking fast. But she's just using that as a quick stepping stone so it's a bit different.
By:
(i admit to not watching her match today)
is her movement still dogsh1t? |
By:
ah ok. Yeah, playing a whole bunch of weak ITFs to grind her ranking up would probably be better for her.

kyrgios shouldnt be allowed to play, i know he needs surgery but cmon the guy clearly couldnt be bothered unlike murray who will give his best even with a injury, its not like the first time he hasnt turned up , do us all a favour and retire now, 1.14 at start of the game does anyone actually back this guy
By:
Laura probably could get top 150 just through very good ITF selection. If you have the money you can find enough ultra weak ITF's to get points. But I don't think it does her any actual benefit in terms of getting her back to the tour, as it's pretty clear from the grass season she's not really even close to tour level. She has been steamrollered all grass season by fringe tour level players at best (Boserup, Haddad Maia etc.).

By:
And yer her movement and especially footwork is really bad.
By:
Her footwork is even worse, because her movement is never going to be good, but her footwork is terrible too which doesn't help.

Becker on BBC lol.

nothing top about 150 sorry
By:
urggh.
how disappointing. that's the thing that really got to me when she played Rodina on comeback two years ago. She'd been off the tour with her wrist injury and yet had done nothing to improve her movement, and given that her core and lower body were the only things she would have been able to work, i was pretty surprised. |
By:
looked like she had zero belief in hersel, so that's none in shotmaking on a grasscourt. not entirely sure that wrist healed okay

Bublik Bublik Bublik!

People just presume working on movement and footwork it will automatically get better, it's not the case , some people no matter what they do will always be lumbering giraffe's , in Laura's case she will never get that much better , she just doesn't have it , the only way she will ever win matches and they way it's always been is pure ball bashing. Over 4 shots and she will lose the point time and time again
