and why does betting on Aus stuff on anywhere else not require such silliness?
By:
Because Australia have some regulations about markets on events on Australian soil.

I've never know specifically why this applies to Betfair, but not bookies, never bothered to look into it. Assume bookies just get an Australian license or something. But Australian customers basically can't bet in play other than by the phone or something.
By:
that is correct
By:
Didn't Betfair withdraw from Australia and that extra aussie wallet was a demand for their operation in Australia? Shouldn't have to bother anymore if they did withdraw
By:
presumably there are no such restrictions on the sportsbook.....
all in all westender may be onto something (see General Betting). If the mug money goes to the sportsbook first, what interest have betfair in going out of their way to keeping the old guard / old site happy... |

But Australian customers basically can't bet in play other than by the phone or something. betfair wanted a license to operate in australia. the tasmanian gaming authority said that they could only have it if all events in Australasia where exclusively offered by the Australian counter party. which is why we have the wallets. |

They do have some interest imo. Or quite a bit of interest. Because a lot of people will flat out refuse to use the sportsbook as it is without doubt the worst bookmaker I've ever seen. The odds are terrible on there, and apparently limits are ridiculously low according to those that have bet there.
So without the exchange they lose a boatload of custom, even the sportsbook suffers. Because of what you say, can't get a bet on the exchange = some people will go to the sportsbook. But if there's no exchange in the first place, then a lot of people just stop coming, because there is zero attraction to Betfair without the exchange, as the sportsbook alone is a terrible product. |
By:
I think Betfair still operate in Australia. We have Australians post on here, most noticeable during Aus swing, but they can't bet in play I think.
By:
A lot of the sportsbook custom must come because the exchange exists, because I can't see why anybody would just visit Betfair for the sportsbook. It's the worst sportsbook ever as I said.

Hi Caramba. If you get a chance. Please can you complain about Australian market navigation problems. No coupon. If you open a market, then try and open another, it never loads etc.
By:
yes please
By:
Edy did you see the 9 darter?
By:
If you open a market, then try and open another, it never loads etc.
I don't understand what you mean with this. |
By:
it tries to redirect you back to a page on the new site instead of going to the market you wanted to go to
By:
though for me only if try to change the tournament, i.e click on "tennis"
By:
So for example. Try this. Try opening the women's Australian Open outright. It will load. Then in the same window, try open the men's Australian Open outright, this doesn't work, at least for me. Tries to redirect to some "Barclays Premier League" market that never loads.
It's like this for me trying to change between any Aus market matches, so 2 random matches from Brisbane for example. |
By:
Is this only when you have added them to favorites?
By:
No, this anytime. Basically for me to open 2 Australian markets, I either have to reload the new site, or keep opening a new tab for every single one.
By:
Only muggery for me is that it takes too long too navigate between new and old site or if I add Aussie markets to favorites on new site and try to access them that way. I can navigate fine between aussie markets once I'm on the old site.
By:
What browser do you use?
By:
What's your secret?
By:
you can freely switch between tournaments on the old site?
By:
maybe it's a swedish thing
By:
that betfair doesn't bother swedes with the same redirects they bother others with
By:
n88, pm me your complaints and i'll twitter complain tomorrow
