She was playing a lot better at the end of the US Open.

Though she was never truly tested at the US Open. It's easy to look good if you're not being tested. Because historically the way to beat Serena is you have to keep the score close, that didn't happen in any US Open match from memory.

I actually think Simona was trying to lose to Ana in straight sets but not make it look totally obvious. It was all Ana's mistakes which forced thay match into a 3rd set
