Given I have seen Serena and Maria fill out stadium like Madison Square Gardens (and not together either), something tells me they can sell tickets.

I always saw the prize money at the majors as somewhat of a compensation for the whole year rather than solely and only prize money for winning matches at those four specific events. For working out and practicing all year, for getting your ranking high enough for direct entry through playing other events and all the stuff that male and female players do alike throughout the year.
Hence I don't think best of 3 contrary to best of 5 is really an issue in equal pay. That's all I'll say about this. It's a completely pointless debate that comes up every few months and there's NEVER a winner in the debate. NEVER! Don't know why someone unrelated to (top100) tennis players would spend lots and lots of time complaining about equal pay either. |

That and once you've gone to equal prize money, there is no real way out of equal prize money. No-one is going to budge now. Even on tour at the top level prize money has turned equal. ATP use to give out far bigger prize money at all levels, now it's only the lower levels of the tour. Events like Madrid, Rome, Canada, Cincinnati all went joint events and now give out equal prize money.

big 4, serena and maria are clear cut then you could argue a few more Yes I can argue for Ana Ivanovic and Cirstea. People would pay big bucks to watch these are stretching their muscles.  |

The Universal rule is: you get what you paid for. In womens we get less then what we paid for. The Universal Rule is screwed!
This cannot last long. So, it's only matter of time when they'll require those muggs to play best of 5 in Womens GS tournaments. |

Tennis obviously started something, but why haven't other sports followed? It's been a long time since Billy Jean King. |

the money issue should only really apply in slams and not what hey get paid in the non slam tourneys as they both play the best of three
the greatest tennis matches in history have come from the mens game, usually in slams, usually in 5 set epics lasting hours, the women are not value for money, they benefit from the mens game it's simple, men and women should only be paid if they are doing exactly the same job, men are working harder in slams and provide the fans better value for money and of course should be paid more, the women in tennis should be eternally grateful to their male counterparts for propping up their income women also have the benefit of having on court coaching, additional help unlike the men and still get paid the same |

and to be fair, we hear greatest match ever and epic and classic every time a match goes 5 sets
getting rid of 5 sets would mean we don't hear the hyperbolic nonsense every time that happens |

If you ask is it fair to pay men more because they bigger and stronger because of being born a man then you could also ask if its fair to pay someone lucky enough to be born with more talent. The players that more people pay to watch generate more money for the sport.

Tbf I would prefer they just scrapped on on court coaching, but not because of reasons listed in this thread.

It's been a long time since Billy Jean King > such a thing is impossible I'd imagine in team sports, and those are the majority of the womens sports closest to > popularity of tennis I would have thought that Golf being an individual sport with global appeal would be closest Tennis In Golf, the men make much more money than the women. Individual or not, I can't think of a single other sport where women make the same money (or anywhere close to the same money) as the men. |

Judging by the quality of the final, women should receive less than what the wheelchair players get.

had this been a 7-5 5-7 14-12 final I imagine this fred wouldn't have seen much action today
