Aaron but the majority are below the top 20 and they wont usually make it to the second week so its easier for them to play both.

"why is that"Because they're just piggy backing on the interest Federer and Nadal and other men have brought to the game

but at least show some knowledge

Venus wrote her letter regarding EPM around Wimbledon 2005

you know when Rafa had 1 slam and Fedal wasn't the epic rivalry it was in latter years

"the women were paid less when the WTA was more popular and ATP was in a mug era pre-Fed"

The women were never more popular than the men. Agassi was still playing when Federer started winning

Any new arguments since the last time we've had this thread? Don't want to bother reading the whole thread if it's all been said before on here.

Indeed... You had Agassi/Sampras and a few others in the 90s. Then there was Hewitt and Roddick which was an interim period until Federer showed up and then a couple of years later Nadal came along. During that period it was all Serena and Venus... Who no one liked.

The only time women have ever been as popular as the men is in the late 70s and 80s.

Which bit? That it was all Serena and Venus (which is true, apart from maybe Henin and Capriati) or that no one liked them (also true)?

This is part of the women emancipation thing. Do you really need to get on this one? lol I'll leave it how it is.

The big ATP players have massive contracts that for some are the main income. The 2nd tier players like Tsonga, Berdych probably also making a few bucks on racquet sponsor, apparel, watch etc. The ATP players that barely make the top 20 or are not good enough for sponsorship usually have their success at ATP 250 or Challenger level where the prize money is way better (double?) than the womens equivalent, WTA International and ITf's. So it's not that bad i guess.

I just don't like them doing segments about women's equality without any reference to the fact that some people think it's absurd

As for the sisters popularity. No. Venus Williams doesn't have more than 3 fans. And that's her father, her mother and her sister.

I'm not even a fan of either of them but respect that they are greats

why aren't they well liked?

I imagine you'll bring up the US Open matches vs Stosur and Clijsters even though they are way past that era

It's a fact that you don't like them.

It's also a fact that they were the centerpiece of womens tennis becoming majorly popular in the late 90s

By:

I don't know why they aren't well liked. Personally I find Venus sanctimonious, but Serena quite amusing.

Intrigue. Stick Ian Brady on the court with Charles Manson and you'll get 50 million viewers. Freak shows do. Like Billie Jean King vs. Bobby Riggs. A match she still thinks she actually won

Lets please stop the 5 sets thing, that would actually create more inequality as WTA would lose viewers.  Equal prize money is clearly a farce, anyone suggesting it's justified is an idiot
