she'll have a hard time beating serena, aza or even masha, but with her consistency she'll have a good chance in tournaments like this one when someone else takes them out for her. and serena won't be around forever and vika is very injury prone so there should be more chances for her.

where does the petra vulture stuff come from? at her peak, 2011, she beat all the top players and won both Wimbledon and YEC. The only one she didn't beat was Serena who was out with injury at the time. She can be major mug at times, but she's far from a vulture.

You're allowed to play 1 or 2 vulture tournaments per year, even Serena and Aza do that. And it's possible to play these type of tourneys for other reasons than to get easy points, most often to find form or because it's your home tourney, without being a vulture. Even Queen Vulture doesn't vulture as much these days, but her vulture tag still sticks anyway because she's still beating most mugs but has a poor h2h against the other top players, just like Ferrer and Errani.

Still don't think that makes her a vulture. I will agree that it's not wise to play New Haven, especially if you've had a good US Series leading up to it where you've had enough match play, but would think that was more about greed for money (winning US Open series gives you chance at bonus if you do well at USO) than greed for cheap points. In the end playing New Haven was probably short sighted since it might have ruined her chances at a good run at USO, but it's still not vulturing.

you need to make winners to do this aga is trying to play safe to reduce number of ues but this stuff don't work with big guns. it only works against mugs. she's playing like vinci |

I suppose it comes down to what your definition of vulture is: Mine is someone who is very consistent against mugs, but has a very poor record against the top players. Going for cheap points by entering and winning mug tournaments also gives you vulture status.
With Petra 2012/13 I just think it's a case of bad/inconsistent form and maybe poor scheduling, but she has shown in the past that she is not a vulture by dominating the best players when playing well, unlike players like Ferrer, Errani and Radwanska who have never done this, and imo you don't get the vulture tag just because you're in bad form/a decline. |

http://www.sport.pl/tenis/1,107387,1...za_szansa.html -The match may have been good, but I'd rather play it bad and win it. In the end I made a couple of silly errors and didn't take a few chances. The match with Li was much better, no doubt. -Why was I cold during the handshake and leave the court so quickly? Well was I supposed to stay there and dance? I had no desire for a chit chat with Sabine, I was mad that I lost. -The 3:0 lead wasn't huge, only 1 break. She was serving very well, I think at 5:6 she had a 2nd serve with 161km/h. -What I'll remember from the tournament? A lot of tennis, a lot of matches, plenty 3 setters. I don't think though that I was running 100% in that match, but my body did feel the previous matches I've had. Had we played that match 2 days later the match could have been different. I wasn't as fresh as during the first week. It's an overload issue. Such 3 matches on grass are a huge amount of tennis, similar to 6 matches on other surface. Sometimes I wanted to run, but my legs didn't work. - Bartoli in the final? Well clearly I missed the best opportunity to win a slam, because last year it was Serena in the final. Cannot compare it to other QFs I lost earlier. However I don't like to do "What if" etc. If I were to lose I'd rather lose to Lisicki in semis than to Bartoli in final, having our H2H in mind. If I lost to Bartoli in the final I'd probably break all my racquets. Obviously when Serena lost each of us girls knew they had a huge chance to win, but still you had to win those matches. I am sure that I am much more disappointed than I usually am. -I don't think I'll stay to watch Janowicz's match tomorrow, I'll go home and watch in TV. -When is the next GS QF's without Serena, Azarenka and Sharapova? I don't know, probably 100 years later... |
