appalling quotes from sad people as per usual

but this bit made me smile
"I've had to try my best to kind of bite my tongue a couple times, because I've gotten messages after Challenger doubles matches," says Smyczek, laughing. "And what kind of—who bets on that sort of thing?"

I also liked the bit where some player said he took it as a compliment that someone would bet on him.

Look everyone has issues growing up, even the best of them today like pova and williamses, how often do we see them use a press conference twice in 8 months to tell everyone about it?
This girl annoying to say the least, doesnt she have anyone talking to her, you know advice and stuff???
She WILL be back in a year or so playing challengers and futures again, and then another press conference about how she is not happy with her life, well who does not have those feelings every other month sometimes??? f**k sake!
If u cant stand what strangers who will mean nothing to you or your life post online, get off line!
If u cant handle comments directed at you (like they are at everyone by the way) after poor results, then dont frigging go looking at them!

She just needs to piss off and shut up hopefully, sick of all this shyte she comes with...

It's crazy that the solution to all this is just don't go online or don't read them rather than addressing the problem from those actually doing the abuse. Heaven forbid a sports player (and not really a big name one) wants to live life like a normal person and communicate with her fans and such Cry

Can the forum send you abusive messages every week and say we want you to kill you or break your leg and see how you feel Confused

---

from what I've read the role these messages played in Marino's case has been overplayed. These just added to it rather than being the contributing factor

I realise this kinda sounds stupid now but I mean why can't they use social media like any normal person does. she isn't going to have her own PR person that will screen tweets before they are read

a lot of these men and women are neurotic and insecure and want to hear what people think of them, thats why they re on Twitter. why would somebody like Tim Smyczek have a account?? he doesnt need that to talk to his mates

contrary to what people will claim, and regardless of weather one should, most people care what others think of them

not that it has one iota to do with how people reasonably should behave to one another

players that  use  Twitter is  because for the ego maniacs wanting to know how many followeres they will have, probably get depressed when they compare their follower numbers to rival players except the top players, the smart ones stay off or use it infreqently, federer has only recently joined it at the back end of his career, the top players have their accounts'mamaged' and murray played alot better after he stopped using it for ages,

you have to be very mentally weak if you are offended by what some mug sitting in a bedsit in some backwater has to say about you whilst you're travelling then world plying tennis
By:

When: 06 Jun 13 15:03
yes it's clearly your own egomaniac fault if you are so called mentally weak and want to socialize on internet. internet you know this place shittloads of today's teenagers spend the majority of their waking day on
By:
AyersRock
When: 06 Jun 13 15:08
i know what you mean, there are some spotty teenagers on the internet all day clocking up 10,000 posts a year,

if you're weak, get off and stop whinging would be my advice to her, the sad trolls probably forget what they've typed as soon as they've posted it

^^ she was already depressed, and these messages amplified it

Why can't a player use a social media site in the way a normal person would?

Smyczek, Alex Kuz, Marino and so on, these aren't mega stars

they are normal people who are on the fringes of a popular sport
By:
nofx
When: 06 Jun 13 15:13
it's not just some spotty teenagers any more, it's a big part of what (young) people see as the world around them

again, apparently necessary to spell out the utterly fcking obvious, the girl's 22 and not an entirely happy soul. but yeah she has no one but herself to blame wanting to mingle with others

If you;re depressed get off the interent, it's a playground for nutcases who think they have license to hand out vitriol

they are normal people who are on the fringes of a popular sport

Because of trolls / unhappy gamblers betting on their mug matches - and they do

There is no need to get to the bottom of why she was depressed. It doesn't matter why.

I get the sense from posts on this thread that too many people think depression (of which there are many forms) is the same as 'feeling a bit sad'.

She doesn't even keep complaining about it. She retired, gave people her story (as aaronh stated she had depressive tendencies anyway for one reason or another) to make others aware of the complete bullshit that is going on from pathetic, desperate gamblers and has been silent and minding her own business since then. Everyone who says she needs to finally stop whinging needs to get a grip, seriously.

That whole "go offline" if you don't like it is the worst logic ever anyway. It's the shit people that need to get called out on their bullshit and not the good ones that should succumb to the ****s and stop using a social media platform like twitter.

of course not.

but fans like to talk to players they like and some players will like interacting with fans

what's wrong with wanting to have a social media site to do that?

Being depressed is a mental illness that if not brought about by tragic circumstances, is a mental health issue - if she was depressed it's true reading **** about her would perpetuate it more so, common sense depressed or not would make anyone realise that not using social network sites for time being is a good idea, twitter posters are the biggest mugs in the world for the abise they come out with, but youtube is the worse

ffs what has her personality or problems to do with it?  problem here that ones feeling sad/ are clinically depressed/ take offence on a (extreme) personal level/ aren't too particularly strong in defending themselves/ (/ are mentally weak ffs) are argued they should run away from whatever place they are being offended in
By:

I'll tell you why, for every 9 friendly comments they get from fans - that one bad comment they get is the one that determines the way they feel when they log off, the one they remember
