it's an absolutely great price
on fed. he was 1.1 last year. and he f'd him in the a. and he'll f him in the a tomorrow. it's not a good match up. you have to go hard, deep and be prepared to pull the trigger early to beat roger. the dink and guile that works well against others will get eaten up. |

Tomic has played 15 sets against top ten opponents in ATP level events in the last 12 months. He did not win any of those sets and only managed to make it to a TB once against Gasquet.
Tomic will need to play better than he has ever played before and Federer would need to be having an off day, otherwise as DStyle has said it will be a very one sided match. |
By:
Feds should crush him unless as DStyle alludes to, Tomic plays the quicker deeper hitting game that Berdych did so successfully (before losing his bowels going 2 up) here. Tomic has that in his locker as he displayed a lot of it versus Djoko, but that was Wimbledon 2011 I think and he's regressed since then. A cautionary tale would be Fed at Aus 2007 being 1.1 against Djokovic, winning straights, then getting humped (all be it with fever issues) in straights by Djoko a year later in Aus 2008. Or Aus 2009 being 1.25 to beat JMDP and humping him in straights only to lose the final to him in 5 in US 2009. The big difference being Tomic hasn't progressed at all.

Shiraz, he beat Djokovic a few weeks ago, I believe Djokovic is top 10
Tomic seems a different player, 5 sets maybe too much but to get where most think he will get to, at some point he needs and will get a massive win. Don't think Sampras would have been 1.14 against a young Scud and he got rolled, it could happen. Don't think it will be the steamroll job the odds suggest it will. |
By:
therhino, that was Hopman Cup which is not ATP level and regarded as practice by the top players, have a great day tomorrow.
By:
i don't understand the reference to Sampras and Scud. Different players, different era, and it was a match all about two tie breakers between two big servers.
i also don't think beating someone in the Hopman circus has any significance. Guga Kuerten beat Djokovic only two months ago in brazil, but probably wont be knocking either him or Federer out of a grand slam anytime soon. as i said on another thread, i think tomic could be a future slam winner, but i don't see him really mixing it with the best for at least another couple of years. |

Tomic is a way way better player than when he lost to Djoko at Wimbledon in 2011 Q/F. Just wait till he gets there this year....
The difference between this year and last year with Tomic...is he has got his head straight and has improved in every area of his game. I agree with therhino....it's only a matter of time before he makes a big dent in a G/S, it will be this year though.....if he gets over Fed he is a lock for the final here imo. |

Cheers Shiraz, bit disappointed the Monfils/Simon match ain't day time but what can you do
![]() DStyle, the reference to Scud and Sampras isn't a style thing, wonderkid on the rise, home soil, the big moment against the big man. It has that feeling to it which is why I referenced it. In terms of game styles in chalk and cheese but the feeling is the same. Boy has to become a man at some point and what a way to annouce your arrival this would be, could be a match that is looked back on 5 years from now and I wouldn't touch the 1.14. Kingdoms rise, Kingdoms fall and all that jazz... |

*is chalk and cheese

Would still have to go through Murray AFL, better chance here I reckon.
By:
He will win more Winbledon more than once, and more than any other G/S, it's his best surface.
He is better than Murray now. |
By:
if spoiled brat gonna make fed to play 4-5 sets then he can win
By:
When I saw the prices, I thought Fed is a steal.
By:
crackung price on fed wont last long. tonic made statement when he was 16 that he will beat everybody soon and will be no1 and win multi slams, statement stands and time is flowing and arogant kid is nowhere near he should have to be to be considered as good player so far. i would like to see him beat federer and progress but discussing this possibility on multiple threads for last two weeks and even considering eventuality he can beat federer is ridiculous. it will end up 3-0 fedex

Same arrogant noises Djoko was making before getting an Aus Open pasting from Feds. He was true to his word as the year after he beat him in straights, went on to win the Aus Open and later play the best tennis I've ever seen in periods.
By:
yip difference is he actually did it nearly at the age of bernard being one of top players already.every player has different career so hope tomic will realize his dreams at some point
By:
possibly my only bet tonight. fed is fu cking cracking price
By:
fed will destroy the poor kid. If your really keen on backing bernie u may aswell back him to win 3-2 cause the fedexpress aint going nowhere in 3 or 4 sets if hes losing. Bernie in 5 is the only way he could possibly win if you really believe in him its the way, but fed in 4 is my call. a good price.
By:
to be honest i rate dodig an even better chance at 10.5 to beat gasquet than bernie beating fed. dodigs got a shot at least a set. tomic wont win.
By:
Tomic is a nobody and will never go far beyond where he's now... cracking price on Fed here, who should be no more than 1.07... we'll see
By:
I'm having a cheeky ton on tomic here
Reckon all this heat could cause the goat to have a few of his internal paddys that could be a disaster. He expects to be worshipped by the crowd and rightly so but don't like them going for the other man |
By:
1.8 for 3-0 is interesting, I think Tomic could just collapse under the very high expectations fueled by his own hype. Fed will be looking forward to giving the kid a lesson

Tomic has played 15 sets against top ten opponents in ATP level events in the last 12 months. He did not win any of those sets and only managed to make it to a TB once against Gasquet.
Tomic also never won a tournament before until last week in Sydney. He has shown real signs of progress the past month. Tomic will need to play better than he has ever played before and Federer would need to be having an off day, otherwise as DStyle has said it will be a very one sided match. If evidence of the past month is anything to go by, Tomic is playing better than ever before. And as for Federer, he is 31... age catches up with everybody eventually. Most of us of a older generation will tell you, "bad days" start to occur with more frequency. Even for athletes as remarkable as Federer. I'm going to have small wager on Tomic. |
By:
you think that age will catch up with federer just before tomic match all of a sudden?, i would say thats quite a gamble
By:
lol Federer v Davydenko total points 111 v 86
Tomic v Brands 153 v 154 i hear Fed also has a decent serve |
By:

By:
TOMIC = NO CHANCE!
By:
All about the first half a dozen games for me, if Tomic can instigate the crowd and give fed a game then u never know... worth a lay of fed for wot the odds say i reckon. gl all.
By:

Just saying that "having an off night" is more likely to occur at age 31 than if he was 5 years younger. Yeah it's a gamble, but Tomic is 8-1, it's worth a gamble in my opinion. Keeping in mind I'm not only relying on Fed having an off night, I do also believe Tomic has made noticeable improvement of late. |
By:
its not a price u lay expecting off night, u may as well wait for 1.06 i t probably hit it at first set at some point
can lose to players firing up like to berdy at us open recently or wimbledon,or tsonga back at wimbledon, or soda at rg,or potty at us open, but its rare occurrence and tomic is nowhere near to those big guns |

federer*

By:
3 sets to zip Federer looks easy money
By:
last time fedrere lost in 3rd round was gustavo kuerten 2004 french open, last time it happened at the australian open was 2001 to clement
By:
i wouldnt risk 3-0 although fed can be motivated to do this, but tomic is talented player can nick a set easily but it wont matter anyways,
about beating djokovic in hopman cup.. he beat djokovic also in exhibition tournament in australia 3 years ago... |
By:
here we go
By:
of to bed folks. well played fed. see yas for 4th round
By:
i think a few of you are giving tomic to much credit, would be suprised if it wasnt 3 - 0 fed closish sets all with one break or tie breaker
