Feel sorry for plod being dragged into this. What a waste of their time.

made by a member of the public
was it you? |
By:
No. Was it you?

As it is his second behavioural offence this year, he is likely to be banned by the ATP for two months. Although I think it will be longer.
By:
No im not an imbecile. saw you ranting and raving yesterday that it was assault and that he should be arrested, so i thought it may have been
By:
A lot of people are referring to it as assault. Go check the BBC comments.
By:
no thanks i have a mind of my own.
anyone who suggests this is assault is a moron. |
By:
as one of the comments said, if they were watching England's match in a pub, and the opponents scored, causing them to become angry and smash a pint glass on the wall, which shattered over someone, injuring them, it would be assault. Why is this any different?

Why didn't the police man not just laugh at whoever made that allegation? The guy who went to the police for this should take a deep long look into the mirror and ask himself if he really wants to utterly waste the time and resources of the law enforcement entities of his country in this way.Not a good civilian if you ask me. |
By:
S & A is right on this one
By common sense no further action should be taken, but technically and by the law he can be charged with reckless assault |

scratch the not after police man

I would prefer the police to be investigating this type of thing rather than studying videotapes to check whether a racist comment has been made from one football player to another.
By:
it's just sad
it obviously wasn't intentional, but it was obviously stupid. he probably deserved to be disqualified but a fine will be enough. why anyone would even want further action to be taken, whether it is legal or just a ban is baffling. why? ![]() as edy said, that man needs to take a long look at himself in the mirror. |

Was the member of public that has taken it to police the line judge or some other random person?
By:
because in this situation, someone was physically injured.
By:
So alleged racism is less serious than a scratch on someone's shin?
By:
yes, I think it is

Crazy Agree, if he whacked a tennis ball into the crowd with full force or chucked his racket in etc, knowing there was a chance someone could have got injured I could understand it maybe |

If the line judge had said "I'm fine don't worry about it, I'm sure it was an accident",
it may have been ok! |
By:
Nalbandian kicking that advertisement board was a hate crime against a pice of equipment, with the linesman having the reaction of a slouch in not getting his legs up and hence being accidentally injured.
A football player throwing racial slurs towards someone else is a hate crime towards people, i.e the target is a person. As you have complained about bullying on this forum plenty of times in the past I thought you would be able to emphasize with words being hurtful, mean and full of hate at times. Now what's more serious? A scratch that's gonna heal completely or an eventual long-lasting emotional scar from constant slurs that are only directed at you because you either love the same sex, are part of another ethnic group, another religion etc. ? |
By:
so direct racism is worse than a silly accident/mistake where someone gets a cut on their shin
ok.. but then i suppose having seen your comments regarding foreign players and some foreign tournaments on here over the months/years, that comment isn't really too surprising. says a lot about you. |
By:
So the line judge has decided to sue him or take it further to the police??
By:
Think about it. A racist comment annoys someone. They get affected mentally. Physically assaulting them hurts them physically and mentally.
By:
They havent said who reported it, and they won't.
By:
Must be the line judge i guess lol surely no one else? He didnt attack anybody else did he?
By:
edy, don't try to turn this onto me. You know as well as I do, that I am referring to a single comment in a football match, not repeated racism, or racist preaching.
By:
i mean sorry he didnt get into any problems with anybody else**
By:
How is the line judge affected mentally by this?

must be on a wind-up or something |
By:
Would they refer to him as "a member of the public" as opposed to "an official"?
By:
If someone damaged your leg physically, or someone shouted something at you as you are walking along the street, which of those things would still be on your mind days later?
By:
so basically what you're trying to say is that nalbandians actions yesterday were worse than luis suarez' words to patrice evra. interesting
By:
It wasn't some random dude shouting at him on the streets, was it? It was a direct assault, meaning to hurt a person, opposed to accidentally hurting someone.
Accidentally hurting someone can happen. Shit happens.... Not prosecuting hate crimes that are directly targeting other humans sends all the wrong signals to the young ones and general public. If someone damaged my leg I might laugh about it as an incident a few days later. I certainly wouldn't take it personally. Why should I? Again, unlike the slur into my face, it wasn't directed me at all. |
By:
if i was at work for example and someone accidentally, but foolishly dropped a heavy book or something on my foot which sprained it, compared to if i was walking down the street and someone intentionally racially abused me, i think i'd know which one affected me more

Yes, which is why assault has a larger punishment in English law - I think it is a min. six months for non-serious assault, whereas racism is two months is it not?
By:
LOL.. Bandy gets the book thrown at him for what he did but Serena gets a slap on the wrist even tho what she did was much much worse.
What a backwards world we live in ![]() |
