The list of 30 nominees for the 2025 Women's Ballon d'Or: the English are in force, only two OL Lyon players
The English, European champions and the most suspenseful, and the Gunners, who surprisingly beat Barça in the Champions League, make up almost a third of the 2025 vintage. As night fell on July 27 in Switzerland, Mariona Caldentey and then Aitana Bonmati missed their penalty kicks and the opportunity to bring Spain closer to winning their first Euro, which intensified the drama surrounding the success of the English (1-1, 3-1 on penalties) , who retained their crown, three years after a victory at home. Beaten from the start by the Blues (1-2), tossed around to the point of having led for less than five minutes during the knockout phase, the Lionesses also sow trouble in the Spanish hegemony of the Ballon d'Or. Alexia Putellas, 48 goals or assists accumulated, but not at ease in the last two steps at the Euro and in the Champions League final, is aiming for a third individual award, like her partner at Barça and with the Roja, Bonmati, double holder . The two teammates and rivals can be wary of Polish Ewa Pajor (52 goals), whom they regularly provide with assists at club level. But also of two compatriots, Claudia Pina, top scorer in the Champions League (10 goals), and Caldentey, crowned Champions League champion after Arsenal's remarkable run (Lyon in the semi-finals, 1-2, 4-1; Barça in the final, 1-0), where Chelsea or Manchester City were expected to be more successful. But also their English tormentors, starting with Alessia Russo, a number 9 who weighs so heavily on defenses, and Hannah Hampton, the guardian angel with a heavy record (Euro and domestic treble in the most densely packed Championship in the world). In 2024-2025, Lucy Bronze gleaned the same trophies with Chelsea (Women's Super League, FA Cup and League Cup) then the Lionesses (Euro). She is now among the players most often nominated for the Ballon d'Or, alongside Sam Kerr and Wendie Renard (five times in seven editions). Immortal Marta This 2025 line-up also celebrates the Brazilians' ninth Copa America victory (4-4, 5-4 on penalties, against Colombia, on August 2), led by the immortal Marta, decisive at 39, and a new darling, Amanda Gutierres, the serial scorer with the high bun. The Americans only have two representatives (Fox and Heaps, ex-Horan), like the French (Baltimore, Mateo), again eliminated prematurely in major competitions, or the Italians (Girelli, Cantore), who came close to a final in Switzerland. While Arsenal (7) and England (5) make up the bulk of the troops (9 nominated out of 30, 3 Gunners playing for the English national team), no fewer than nineteen players are discovering the joys of a first nomination, within a vintage established on five continents (3 for North and Central America, 2 South America, 2 Africa, 1 Oceania, 22 Europe). The reflection of an exacerbated density. And of increased suspense to guess the best player in the world, designated on September 22. Ballon d'Or 2025: Who votes and what are the criteria? On September 22, the 2025 Ballon d'Or will be awarded. But how is the winner chosen? Who votes, and what are the criteria? Three hierarchical criteria are considered by Ballon d'Or voters. First, individual performance and decisiveness and impressiveness. Second, teamwork and trophies won. Finally, class and fair play. The voters are journalists. There are 100 for the men's Ballon d'Or, and 50 for the women's Ballon d'Or . Each country in the top 100 of the FIFA rankings (top 50 for women) therefore has a journalist representative who votes for the winner of the most prestigious individual trophy in the world of football. Each journalist must elect a top 10, each place of which awards points to the designated player. The player and the player who have collected the most points are designated Ballon d'Or. Details of points per place in the ranking 1st: 15 points 2nd: 12 points 3rd: 10 points 4th: 8 points 5th: 7 points 6th: 5 points 7th: 4 points 8th: 3 points 9th: 2 points 10th: 1 point Ballon d'Or Rules Article 1. The Ballon d'Or and the votes are organized every year by the monthly France Football . The ceremony is co-organized with UEFA. Article 2. The Ballon d'Or rewards the best male and female player in the world, without distinction of league or nationality. Article 3. The reference period includes the entire season, from August 1, 2024 to August 2, 2025, including international competitions (Club World Cup; Euro, Copa America and CAN for women). As a reminder, the 2024 Olympic Games counted for the previous edition. Article 4. The Ballon d'Or is awarded based on three criteria in order of importance. 1. Individual performances, decisive and impressive character. 2. Team performances and track record. 3. Class and fair play. Article 5. The Ballon d'Or is awarded by an international jury of specialist journalists, one representative per country, the top 100 in the FIFA rankings for men and the top 50 for women. The FIFA rankings taken into account are those as of the publication of the lists on August 7, 2025. Article 6. Each jury member designates ten players in descending order of merit from the list of 30 established by the editorial staff of France Football , members of the editorial staff of L'Équipe , at least one jury member from the previous edition and the UEFA ambassadors, Luis Figo and Fabio Capello for the men's trophy, Nadine Kessler for the women's trophy. Article 7. The ten named are respectively awarded 15, 12, 10, 8, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 points. The Ballon d'Or is awarded to the player with the highest number of points. Article 8. In the event of a tie, players are separated by the number of first-place mentions. If the tie remains, by the number of second-place mentions, then by the number of third-place mentions, etc. Article 9. Any dispute arising from the vote is settled by the editorial director of France Football as organizer. . https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/La-liste-des-30-nommees-pour-le-ballon-d-or-femmes-2025-les-anglaises-en-force-seulement-deux-joueuses-d-ol-lyonnes/1583719 |

We only needed Kelly and Hannah stats

Funny in the initial write up that Chloe didn't even get a mention, whereas Hannah did ? Outlining what little impact she had outside of our shores.
Gonna take a look at the players and see if i can see what chance Hannah has of finishing high up the list like Earps did, looking at the rules i'm not sure Chloe's lack of mins over the season from Aug 24 to Aug 25 will help her much. Also noted in the rules is fair play, she had 7 yellows. Without doubt the most yellows per minutes played and most out of the 30 short listed. It would appear she has no chance of winning this award |

Yep, I thought Earps was a one off. I still think Chloe is almost certain to get a nomination. Either the only lioness nomination or they could nominate both be nominated. Even if it's both of them I'd still very much favour Chloe As i have mentioned i think a big front page news story could give either the defining edge |
By:
Big difference with Earps and Hannah is, although Earps had a stellar season with Utd and won individual awards..she will always be remembered for being shortlisted for being a losing finalist as will Littler for that year.
This time we have a 100% winning goal keeper at all levels, who deserves to be listed. Would be a right slap in her face if they leave her off after giving one to Earps |
By:
I think its a really tough ask for Hannah to top Earps 5th place ranking in the Ballon D'Or, as a backer it would be a dream if she did lol it would really make it very hard for the panel to overlook her in that case.
A more realistic ranking inside the top 10 i envisage, and i see her comfortably beating Chloe if the rules are adhered by with Chloe's lack of mins and discipline big negatives compared to the field. This result if it goes Hannah's way will influence further awards later in the year, which will ultimately sway the panels decision making. |
By:
One thing i'd like to add on this topic is, the 100+ journo's who vote and im guessing will mostly be the same as two years ago, when they rewarded Earps with the 5th place are obviously kind to keepers
![]() Especially considering England lost that world final, now how will they vote with a keeper who won two player of the match awards and saved 4 pens over two shootouts, plus the late saves in the semi final. Including all the domestic silverware Hannah won, which Earps didn't. |

https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/womens-ballon-dor-2025-power-rankings/blt34d8939da84da433#cs2734a36f09ebfe29 Hampton 9th, Bronze 8th, Chloe 5th and Russo 4th You sense it will be very close, with no stand out candidate. Positives and negatives for all of the contenders Would be an interesting market. The bookies have priced up the men's but not the women's. Well they're not on oddscheckers anyway |

goal.com obviously just focusing on her scoring winning pen and not the criteria set out. 30th for discipline is not good at all
By:
She's proper English. Knows when to stick the boot in
By:
If the men were the same, we might have won something
By:
I get the feeling she was a token selection after a good two weeks over the summer, not a 12 month period which is what most of the journo's will give points for
By:
The top contenders have 50+ matches and 30+ goal contributions and nowhere near as many yellows, she'll probably do better than her stats just for those two weeks. I'd still have Hannah finishing higher in 7th v chloe in 10th
By:
You're ignoring her contribution to Arsenal's champions league win then
![]() |
By:
It was good but again she only played half the comp fig for Arsenal, you ain't winning or getting close with her stats. Its all based on two weeks, journo's ain't rewarding that over others who slogged all season
By:
For spoty context, Hannah will come out the best regardless of finishing places in the main award, coz she is a 1.01 shot for best goalie in the world
