at his age, with other wins and 9 dart finishes..its insane and still has chances to add to that. Keely is far from a shoe-in
By:
bored me to tears, the gasp when the little fella fell at the last was the highlight
By:
I think he wins comfortably. The darts fans won't miss a rare opportunity, and everyone will assume keely wins. Who is actually excited by her?
By:
she wins on personality hands down lol but i think Luke is in with a massive chance.
if Emma gets that gold, i think she has to take all of Keely's thunder anyway. she has to become the golden girl of the games, surely all the other Olympians will recognise her as the greatest woman at one games on her debut. that has to translate to the bbc and then the public. Emma has the better chance of beating luke imo |

I don't think he has enough support this time. Likely a lycra split with pidcock or finucane too
Will he get nommed, or will it be the lifetime award? |
By:
'Lycra split'? - ooh matron!

Will he get nommed, or will it be the lifetime award?
Very likely latter I'd agree. |
By:
Jimmy anderson wants that too tho
By:
Wasn't it dalgliesh last year? They have to factor in oldies
By:
I have doubts he'd be put on the main shortlist, not really doing enough for that this year - but recognising his career seems somewhat needed, so it's possible. Would stuff up the cycling vote like you say, if so.
By:
These noms of outsiders often work on who has built up a bit of history, I'd expect pidcock this time
By:
prezzie for stu, tonight's show just ended with a long montage of clips and highlights, with emma winning and emotional as she gets her gold as the very last clip shown lol
the beeb intentions for all to see |

Littler should get to at least 4.0 at some point before december
By:
jack carlin impressive there, could get a nom with a keirin gold after bronze in sprint and silver in team sprint
By:
As a Littler fan I'm happy enough with the games although I don't know if we could have done with another Olympian to have done better to perhaps split the vote.
The BBC love Littler as much as Hodgkinson and darts fans will be more fanatical about voting, one potential negative for me in terms of how vigorously the BBC get behind individuals is the fact that the show is on the same day the World Championships begin so Littler is unlikely to be present and you'd think they would want the winner present, do we think that is a negative to be concerned about? Although on the plus side there will be an obvious big build up to the Championships on our screens putting Littler front and centre right in the period when people are voting. |
By:
won't make a difference, i would see it as a plus...coz they will interview him at the tournament or in his hotel before/after playing

Happy to hear that from one of the Doyens of specials betting

Darts fans won't win it for Littler (was he to win). It would be housewives who don't know too much about darts. The audience profile is now digital spy not Grandstand. In my view we've typically gone through the era of sports fans picking, to hardcore/regional fans eg Giggs/muzza/cycling, to virtue or storyline narrative being the determinant. Not trying to make a political point here, simply noting it's just completely changed from making a predominately sports judgement to a bbc led one due to the profile of the show changing to a magazine type thing, to the one show with a little sport.
Littler has the narrative, but not the virtue. Would they hand pick him as the winner, unlikely as his performances are mostly elsewhere than the bbc. There's an easy out for the prods to give him the youngster award. Which I actually feel can be argued for legitimately as the more appropriate one anyway. |
By:
yep thats pretty much what ive been trying to say all day cider, emma has the storyline and narrative to tap into the new audience in a big way. especially being a woman, doing the same as what a woman did 60 years ago. in a world where women in sport and presenting have become the only narrative.
By:
Your narrative is somewhat forced though! If you have to explain it, it doesn't fly. I suppose you have a very good shot at getting her into the shortlist, and possibly shortening a bit.
By:
who else is getting nommed ? cav a man, i don't think he will but things are so skinny he could. pidock a man, maybe
point being, were in an era a big era of women having there say. the last 3 winners have all been woman for the reasons cider highlights, that path is far from changing. limpic year the bbc are to town on keely and emma who have both done great things on there channel. a woman wins, picked by women at the height of there power |
By:
im not writing for the guardian cider ffs, that article was fantastic for emma.
i may point out to as many people as possible that Rand won spoty that year coz no one has picked up on it yet, then the press will write another great article. im not forcing f all, emma has created history simple |
By:
There will be a para runner. Probably a footballer, JB. As I stated KH looks too short but but but, there is a dearth of viable contenders. Sometimes the default winner simply wins.
By:
for people not to piece together what she has achieved in such a short space of time is beyond me, the VT she could get with all the finer points ive mentioned since starting her thread, could be an incredible watch.
articles highlighting what she has exactly done leading up to the awards could sway the bbc to give her a VT she deserves. its hardly rocket science, given a big push she wins |
By:
im not here to get a fav home, im here to give the forum an alternate POV and some real value with genuine reasons why it could win.
ive done that, now its down to the media and the bbc to give the chance it deserves. |
By:
1) Kelley wins clearly. 12th Track and field ever and wins race easily. Insane to bet against her.
then…. Either Luke, Emma or Cav choose any order. Special award to Andy Murray Team of year England Football Team. Overseas Award - French swimmer. There you go whole show and awards 4 months out. |
By:
where do back kelley ?
By:
That is the question you should have been asking yourself for last month
![]() |
By:
lol, i did see her at 20's but she got lucky as feck all the big guns mucked up. she's literally had every thing go perfectly for her, a very very lucky fav if ever i saw one.
By:
I’ve not got 20/1 but backed her 5/1 down to 4/5 over multiple bets. Also have Emma as you know ew 3 places which should collect after 3 medals now.
Can’t believe I’ve so much money down on an awards show in December I think we should get out a bit more…. |
By:
haha you can put ya house on Emma getting top 3, the regional vote will do that all on its own. depending on the media, VT and a campaign is how close she gets to winning.
the question really is, how big is her story ? the guardian loved it |
By:
Two individual bronzes has cost her. Can’t have SPOTY winner 3rd best in both her races and just winning team gold. Not happening in any world whatsoever marketing she gets.
By:
what makes the story even more special than i realised, what the guardian picked up on, was the fact she was the only athlete at the games to win 3 medals. MAN or woman
that alone raises the bar, it highlights the 1964 Rand narrative to higher dimension. it transcends the story |
By:
you're also living in the past Hib, this vote is now more a reality contest than a sporting event. since the women bombarded it
By:
two bronzes to women voters is hard word, dedication, 4 years of effort, crying, 7 days non stop racing
a man would see two bronzes as a failure, yes get with the program mate, what she did was amazing in the eyes of women voters |
