Looks like Littler controversy on the way. Been caught eating a salad.
Not sure why he needs a campaign if he miles and miles clear to win ? Starting to drift again when should have been odds on now reading all the “knowledgeable” comments on here. Should I cash in both Keely and Luke before Bellingham wins ? Confusedfromhorseracingforum |

Luke had a good segment on SkySports news, in the paper review section this morning. Explaining how hes the most searched sport person in the UK this year and 3rd most searched person in general

Hibore there are dissenting voices but armagnac's tactic is to post hundreds of times so hopefully you don't see them.
I'll elaborate on the negatives. 1. There's no lifetime recognition for years of excellence. This is the bond from people who have grown up watching them and want to reward. 2. Do they deserve to win? Absolutely not. Like Bellingham he didn't win the big one. Perhaps the most important consideration. Others do far more. Further, he's very likely to win the Young award. 3. Are supporters motivated? They CGAF imo. See Young Award too 4. Do his supporters come from the right demographic that vote in this show? Again No. They won't be watching 5. Is the voting free and available via App? No. One free vote online if you are hassled to register. Otherwise it's 15p a vote via telephone. Favouring the other nominations. 6. The darts is live on Sky the same night. If you are watching the darts you aren't going to vote. Despite all these huge negatives he has made a huge impact in terms of searches, publicity and SM noise. Much bigger than the other contenders for sure. Casual punters I think will arrive on the day expecting him to win. So I suspect he shortens on the day. The market atm is being priced and bet on by more knowledgeable SPOTY veterans. So it's unchartered territory. Will the noise and impact he's made translate into enough votes on the night? Very hard to pin the tail on the donkey with this as there is no precedent. He could win, but it's also feasible he's not even in the top 3, finishing behind both Root and Yee. |

1) Emma Raducanu
By:
2) Bellingham or no other sports person has transcended a sport like Littler has this year, so fully deserves votes as recognition and not a panel decision for young spoty. He will do the double
By:
3) Motivation is massive as it was for Emma in 2021 as she was the talk of the nation, Littler as proven by the google awards is far bigger talk
By:
4) His supporters will be all over SM all day on the 17th, constantly posting for people to vote that night
By:
Regarding point 2. As someone said "he's not even the best darts player named Luke"
By:
5) Every person under 40 has a smart phone and can easily download the app, also his number will be all over SM as said and 15p is f all. Its not 1880 ffs
By:
6) You don't need to watch the darts, the fans will be all over SM that night talking about Littler as they always do. His voting number will be trending
By:
Point 2, no one cares about humpy and he hasn't transcended the game to the levels where pubs have seen mass growth in darts teams now playing
By:
bye Clyde..........
By:
I think by now everyone knows what you think army.
By:
There is no need to hold an enquiry why he won, when he does btw. Coz all of the answers are on this thread, so don't bore us with all that sh1t post award
By:
I'd say many actual darts fans care about Humpy - he's their world champion after all, if you are really a fan of the sport.
By:
The negatives are a load of tosh
By:
There is 68 million people that live in this country
Luke Littler has been on a lot of lips all year, more than anyone by a landslide ! The vote is a positive one, so you can shove those negatives where the sun don't shine. Go find a VTE reality tv bet somewhere to push that crap |
By:
The positive v negative vote is always an interesting debate.
There are differences I'd agree, but it's not true that negs don't matter - a neg can stop someone from voting positively for a candidate, for sure. CB has done a good job on highlighting those issues where Luke sits as candidate. |
By:
In a balanced view, exactly as he says it doesn't mean there's no chance he wins, but those factors do matter in weighing it all up.
By:
if this was any other positive vote show, Luke would be 1.05. Once SM awakens on the 17th, he hoses in
simples |
By:
The app vote era says it all, this year the BBC joins that party.
Welcome to 2024 |
By:
The point is, it's anything but simple whether he wins - it's actually an interesting test case in candidate type for these types of show and vote.
By:
Not really - Emma was an unknown, won a slam and was famous
Luke is more than famous |
By:
He's bigger than she ever was
By:
Point 1 is dispelled by the last 3 winners
not gonna bother reading the rest of his nonsense |
By:
I'd agree with that - it's the kebabs

Olympic year, no one gave a feck and voted her in. Just like they will with Littler
By:
oh yeah forgot the footy girls came out of nowhere as well and swept up the limelight and was talk of the town.
Let me think, thats 3 winners in a row that were all talked about more than anyone else in there respective years is there a pattern............anyone heard of Luke Littler ![]() |
By:
Enjoy splitting that vote elite crowd group thinking backers
![]() ![]() ![]() The VT's will play out far better for Root, Storey, and Yee. Keely's will lack motivation having won too easily im afraid, Brits are not keen on that profile. Americans would love it coz we know what there like, we love the underdog story and fight back from the brink. She could easily be out of the top 3 |
By:
Thanks Clyde. That post is far more sensible than 95% that followed

What's the record of the top 2 in the poll in the era of the 6 person shortlist?
By:
6 out of 6?
By:
Not sure you understand the hard part was getting on the shortlist, this year it will be a popularity contest. No matter how much you think a telegraph poll helps you...it wont !!!
By:
Telegraph readers are considered core viewers/voters, means f all...they will get swamped by casuals.
Its a done deal, the sooner you accept it..the sooner you can stop looking on here too depress yourself |
By:
Not sure many darts fans read the Telegraph, and even less likely to vote in a poll that's behind a paywall
By:
Coz all you will see is me, one man army
By:
6 out of 6 it is then. Darts fans will be watching SS as I pointed out. Darts fans won't be reading The Telegraph but then they are not the sort to vote in SPOTY either, which I was alluding to before I'd seen The Telegraph poll. Root and Yee (especially) both doing getting more +ve feedback when I looked on SM than Littler too fwiw. which should be more Littler's patch.

By:
Don't you ever bored of the sound of you're own voice
![]() |

and proper darts fans won't vote for Littler anyway because they recognize Humphries as the WC and best player over the year. Many think it's a complete joke he's on the list
