do we have a launch show thread or is it too low key and we just chat on here?
|
|
By:
I guess we should have a launch show thread. Then we'll have somewhere to argue about who was any good in the group dance

Hey, FOTY, do your stuff, get a `1st out` market loaded, please.

Joanne Clifton looks great now. She must have done more than dye her hair. A plastic surgery success story for a change.

After watching the group dance about a hundred times I've backed Danny Mac alongside Will young as my early picks. Ore has got moves but I found him very annoying. Out of the females Claudia looked the best and definitely has potential. Louise comes across as a pop music dancer and she wasn't even great at that in her peak: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9-JqUBzhRU

What's wrong with Louise's pop dancing? I just watched it (best to see it with sound down), seems OK to me.
Who's backing Ore with 3K? All a bit premature. Wasn't Peter Andre backed down after his group dance? Ore does seem full of himself. |
|
By:
£300 up for the Ore backer. You better take it, it's a very thin market.

`... Ore does seem full of himself...` Don`t think I`ve ever heard of him or seen him before last Saturday, but I think you`re spot on. He might be good, but cockiness never is, and he`s likely to become more so. Top 4 all now max red and, given the little we know so far, I think the market`s crazy, with massive value elsewhere. |

It's almost time! This Friday and Saturday, our Celebrities will be taking to the floor for their first Strictly routines. They've been hard at work in training, polishing their footwork ready for your entertainment (and the judges' razor-sharp comments).

Anastacia and Brendan will be dancing the Cha Cha to 'Lady Marmalade' by Christina Aguilera, Mya, Lil' Kim and Pink Claudia and AJ will be dancing the Cha Cha to 'What Makes You Beautiful' by One Direction Daisy and Aljaz will be dancing the Waltz to 'Unforgettable' by Nat King Cole Danny and Oti will be dancing the Cha Cha to 'Cake by the Ocean' by DNCE Ed and Katya will be dancing the Waltz to 'Are You Lonesome Tonight' by Elvis Presley Greg and Natalie will be dancing the Jive to 'Get Ready' by The Temptations Judge Rinder and Oksana will be dancing the Cha Cha to 'Mercy' by Duffy Laura and Giovanni will be dancing the Cha Cha to 'Venus' by Shocking Blue Lesley and Anton will be dancing the Waltz to 'What'll I Do' by Alison Krauss Louise and Kevin will be dancing the Jive to 'Jump, Jive and Wail' by the Brian Setzer Orchestra Melvin and Janette will be dancing the Cha Cha to 'Loco In Acapulco' by the Four Tops Naga and Pasha will be dancing the Waltz to 'Run To You' by Whitney Houston Ore and Joanne will be dancing the Tango to 'Geronimo' by Sheppard Tameka and Gorka will be dancing the Paso Doble to 'El Gato Montes' by Ramon Cortez and 'Y Viva Espana' by Sylvia Will and Karen will be dancing the Tango to 'Let's Dance' by David Bowie Makes for quite a list, doesn't it? Tune into BBC One this Friday at 9pm, and Saturday at 6:30pm to see the list come to life, in what promises to be an epic weekend of dance. And if you fancy reliving every beat, then check out the original versions of all the tracks used on Strictly - you can find the full playlist on BBC Music! |

Only tiny snippets of info to go on yet, but is anyone else thinking this looks like a very open year, ability wise, at least? From the Group Dance, and the VTs, it seems to me that, on dancing grounds alone, there is only one you could entirely rule out, and he`s got a LPM of 450, so that`s hardly insightful!
Who else has looked dodgy? Lesley we`d have to assume is too old to be good enough, but she hasn`t looked too bad on such limited evidence, and this morning`s plunge suggests someone is confident. Melvin I suspect has been playing down his ability, having been some kind of a dance teacher in his time. Daisy has done plenty enough dancing in her time to be better than so far seen, and apparently her Grandfather had died on the day the Group Dance was shot, so quite understandable that she wasn`t at her best. Anastacia seemed more than able to shake her booty in the Group Dance. So, apart from Balls, who can we rule out? For me, no one. Which means the market, as ever, is wrong; the field is full of pretty good quality dancers, perhaps the highest overall standard of any series I can remember, meaning all the value`s nearer the bottom of the ladder than the top. |
|
By:
Has Daisy really done plenty of dancing? She was in a pop video but you just saw the odd second of her and it was hardly dancing.

That is EXACTLY what I would say. Balls surely awful and Lesley can't win but apart from those two the others at this stage all look in with a shout. I've laid Will Young because of it as I almost see him as about a 1 in 12 chance yet he's 4/1? I think Melvin will be decent being a young black guy, I wanted to write off Daisy yet I thought she moved ok from what little we saw so all a bit of a lottery. I watched the group dance about 5 times to try to look at them all and the only other one who I thought looked awkward was the athlete Greg so I've laid him too. To my eyes Judge Rinder and even Anastasia as you too pointed out all looked decent enough so what's so great about Will Young at this stage let alone the other more obvious contenders of the young gymnast, Louise, Ore, Danny Mac and Laura so 4/1 Will Young? He's a lay chaps at this stage. Yes me MAY win it but he's surely not a 4/1 chance. |

By:
Always refreshing to hear some honesty on here.
|
|
By:
Henry, don`t know for sure how many VTs she`s done, but I think I read `some`, and assumed it was more tan one. Which would suggest she`s able to move.
Hardly conclusive, but pleasing all the same; https://vimeo.com/12267495 Lou I`ve got five max reds; the top four, and the one you mention, Greg. (Sorry fll!) |
|
By:
Sorry, six max reds, forgot about Balls.
|
|
By:
Thanks Tim, I hadn't seen that one.

Don't think I'd have all the top 4 against me but I certainly agree with you about Will and what's so special about Greg yet he's dropped to about 12/1 as we speak. He did look a but 'wooden' to me from what little I saw in the group dance so that's why I'm max red on him. Very open year I think even the tubby black girl from Eastenders could move so suits me if she does well. |
|
By:
Oh by the way an outside bet? I think the Indian newsreader looked decent enough so I've had a nice few bob on her so hope she goes well.
|
|
By:
Lou;
what people tend to forget, (especially backers), is that, by laying the top four to 78%, then throwing in Greg to bring it to 83%, I have effectively laid the five of them at 1.16. Which means I can back the winner at 1.17 or above and still be in front. Plenty of wriggle room there, especially before we`ve even seen them dance properly. In Specials, laying`s the easy way forward. |
|
By:
Slight edit;
`...back the winner at 1.17 or above` IF NECESSARY!!! Also, forgot to add that laying just one more of them at 6.0 will bring me to the magical 100%. As would laying two more of them at 12, or three more of them at 18, etc. |
|
By:
|
|
By:
Well, yes! Assuming;
you haven`t laid any others to bring you over the 100% You`ve sat back and done nothing to your book from here to the final You haven`t backed the winner at 1.17 or above. etc.etc. And, even if that`s what happens, you`ve laid a 1.16 winner. Whoopy doo. |
|
By:
tim
Yes I worked that out roughly with the top 4 and Greg when you mentioned it. They are perhaps the obvious 4 though so you may well end up laying a winner but at 1/6 you can't go far wrong can you and as you've mentioned things could well change as they've not even started yet. You still have some decent 'runners' on your side from what we've seen so good luck to you. At this stage just don't want Will, Balls, Lesley or Greg and I win about £350 so let's see ........ |
