I thought we needed one on here.

We might have to wait for a market though, with Turkey and Bosnia having withdrawn and others threatening do the same.

Eurovision: Azerbaijan probes Russian 'nul points'

Three jailed over Eurovision 'plot'
Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev has ordered an inquiry into why his country gave Russia "nul points" at Saturday's Eurovision Song Contest.

Voters and the official Azerbaijan jury in fact gave strong backing to the Russian entry, according to officials.

Azerbaijan's state broadcaster suggested there may have been voting violations.

Russia gave the maximum 12 points to Azerbaijan's entry - a ballad by Farid Mammadov.

He came second behind winner Emmelie de Forest from Denmark.

Russia's Dina Garipova came fifth at the event in the Swedish city of Malmo.

Azerbaijan's ambassador to Russia, Polad Bulbuloglu, disclosed that President Aliyev had ordered an investigation and votes were being recounted.

He said that a large number of voters in Azerbaijan, submitting votes by text message, had supported the Russian Federation.

"According to this data, Russia should have received 10 points from Azerbaijan. An announcement will be made about this tonight on Azeri Public Television."

Camil Guliyev, head of the country's state broadcaster, said the failure to give Russia any points was of serious concern.

"We sincerely hope that this incident, possibly initiated by certain interest groups, will not cast a shadow over the brotherly relations of the Russian and Azerbaijani peoples," he said, without elaborating.

Azerbaijan, which hosted last year's contest, has traditionally tried to maintain good relations with Moscow though there have been tensions over energy in the past.

No smoking gun in CowelI`s hand, but I liked this one

In the top thirteen in season 8, the expected phone number for finalist Alexis Grace, IDOLS-13, was not owned by American Idol, but by a company called Intimate Encounters, who used it as a sex line.

In May 2009, following allegations in the media of an American Idol texting scandal dubbed "Textgate", one of American Idol's corporate sponsors AT&T, admitted providing free mobile phones and texting services for fans of Kris Allen at parties organized on the night of the program's final episode.[24] Company representatives also provided Allen's supporters with lessons in how to send "power texts" which send ten or more votes with the touch of a single button. Bobby Kierna, one of the 2,000 guests who attended just one of the events, told reporters that she had voted for Allen 10,840 times.[25] AT&T denied attempting to "fix" the contest and apologized, saying that employees had been "caught up in their enthusiasm" and promised that they will in future "celebrate the competition, not individual contestants".[

So, AI`s corporate sponsor arranges parties (plural) of 2,000 people, each voting up to 10,000 times, for the sponsors` preferred contestant. That`s potentially 20,000,000 votes. PER PARTY!!!  This explains how the best contestant ever, Adam Lambert, didn`t win. But it`s all OK, as they said `sorry` after being caught.

Eurovision Gets Over 3.5 Million Tweets Across Europe
Saturday’s Eurovision final saw over 900,000 people post 3,700,000 tweets related to the competition across Europe. Tweets peaked at 46,000 per minute just after 9.00pm during Romania’s entry, while the second largest peak came during Greece’s entry, which saw 39,400 tweets posted in a minute. There were 113,000 tweets mentioning the BBC broadcast, while 85,000 mentioned BBC Eurovision host Graham Norton. Due to the high volume of tweets being posted across Europe in a mix of languages we tracked Eurovision as an event rather than a UK specific broadcast, which meant it did not feature in our top ten leaderboard

DENMARK WON JURY & TELEVOTING

The European Broadcasting Union announced the split results of the jury voting and public choices. We have some interesting things coming ouf of this announcement.

Denmark won the combined voting of the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 but also the jury voting and the televoting in the final. Denmark also won the combined and split (jury and public voting) in the first semifinal.

First Semifinal Combined Top 10
Denmark, Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Belgium, The Netherlands, Belarus, Ireland, Lithuania, Estonia

Second Semifinal Combined Top 10
Azerbaijan, Greece, Norway, Malta, Romania, Iceland, Armenia, Hungary, Finland, Georgia

Second Semifinal Jury Top 10
Malta, Azerbaijan, Greece, Norway, Georgia, Finland, Armenia, Iceland, ISRAEL, SAN MARINO

Second Semifinal Televoting Top 10
Romania, Greece, Azerbaijan, Norway, SWITZERLAND, Malta, BULGARIA, Iceland, Hungary, Finland.

Final Top 10 Combined
Denmark, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Norway, Russia, Greece, Italy, Malta, The Netherlands, Hungary

Final Top 10 Jury
Denmark, Azerbaijan, SWEDEN, Norway, MOLDOVA, Ukraine, The Netherlands, Malta, FRANCE, GEORGIA.

Final Top 10 Televoting
Denmark, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Greece, Russia, Norway, ROMANIA, Hungary, Malta, The Netherlands

To protect the fairness of the voting, the EBU does not release the split ranking of televoting and jury per country. Publishing these numbers would explicitly highlight if countries don’t meet the televoting threshold – the minimum number of televotes needed to become a statistically valid result – is and where thus only the jury voting was regarded valid. Explicitly highlighting these countries could lead to unwanted disproportionate influence on the televoting in these countries in future years to come.

Average position is fairly meaningless...

1st, 1st, 25th = average 9th despite getting plenty of points overall

Ireland clearly consistently mid-table but not high enough for points

But yes horrible numbers to produce, outliers will totally skew the data

ROMANIA: JURY VOTES REVEALED

The Romanian press claim to have the results of the national jury for the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 (second semifinal and the grand final). The information we receive from the voting is that Azerbaijan is treated weirdly between the second semifinal and the final. In the second semifinal Azerbaijan gets 1st rank by the jury and fourth in the final. Greece is also treade weirdly as it gets 2nd rank in the second semifinal and 10th rank in the final! I'm not sure Andrius had much of a budget for the official video of Something Grin I think he filmed it on his iphone.

Still a very decent song and there's something very likeable about him

UK: BBC UNVEILS JURY RESULTS

Posted by Fotis Konstantopoulos reporting from Greece on June 19, 2013 in EUROVISION, UNITED KINGDOM | Leave a comment

The jury votes from the United Kingdom with lots of interesting things. We notice that the jury gave points to Belarus and Azerbaijan but the publi vote didn’t award them anything as we show in the combined result both in the first semifinal and the final. In the first semifinal Lithuania missed the top ten and the same happened with Lithuania in the final. We remind you that televoting results are not available / country this year to any of the national broadcasters.

SEMIFINAL 1 JURY
12 points Russia

10 points Austria

08 points Denmark

07 points Estonia

06 points Belgium

05 points Netherlands

03 points Belarus

02 points Ukraine

01 point Ireland

FINAL JURY

thanks guys - interesting.

Like you say JR - Blackburn and Hatch, obviously thought it was still 1965.

Not so sure about the others, but that Norway result is a travesty.

Actually figure out the equation for the Norway result

2 dinasaurs + 3 green-eyed cows!

Ruth Lorenzo was asked by the BBC to do #eurovision. I really hope she does it! #bbbots #bbuk

I'd have to stop laying the UK.

She's Spanish
Report Henry VIII June 21, 2013 10:18 AM BST
The BBC don't have the power to decide the Spanish entry.
Report Henry VIII June 21, 2013 10:21 AM BST
So they couldn't have asked her to represent Spain.
Report five leaves left June 21, 2013 11:33 AM BST
I suspect she could represent the UK. Katrina and her waves were American. I'm not sure what the rules are.

I know she couldn't sing Purple Rain, so I wouldn't be backing
Report stu June 21, 2013 11:43 AM BST
There are zilch rules about where you actually are from - loads of countries been represented by singers of different nationalities. And some won, as five points out, one for us.
Report stu June 21, 2013 11:43 AM BST
Bit silly though really, if it's the countries in it, prob should be singers from those countries!
Report five leaves left June 21, 2013 11:46 AM BST
Did Katrina have a British passport?  I'm not sure.
Report five leaves left June 21, 2013 11:47 AM BST
..... Katrina has lived in the UK since 1976, moving to London in 1998 where she currently lives.
Report five leaves left June 21, 2013 11:48 AM BST
So I assume there must be some kind of residency rule at least

She was round the corner from us at the time of the ESC win, think she said she hated it over here tho.

Report bearcub June 21, 2013 12:49 PM BST
I don't think there's a rule about it but surely against the spirit of the competition.

We have enough negatives going into the competition without adding more
