With the nominations due out today, I thought it would be worth kicking things off with a recap on last year's winners, to give us some clues for 2012:

Best British Male - Plan B, winning favourite (opened at c. 4/6) and performed live
Best British Female - Laura Marling, suprise choice (opened at c. 11/2) but heavily backed by those 'in the know'; weak ante-post favs in Cheryl Cole and then Ellie Goulding
Best British Album - Mumford and Sons, winning favourite (opened at c. 10/11) and performed live
Best Single (voted by public) - Tinie Tempah with Pass Out, second favourite (opened at c. 4/1) and performed live
Best Group - Take That, winning favourite (opened at c. 4/9) and performed live
Best Breakthrough Artist - Tinie Tempah, winning favourite (opened at c. 11/10), and performed live
International Male - Ce-Lo Green, second favourite (opened at c. 7/2) well backed and flip flopped with Eminem, performed live
Best International Female - Rihanna, winning favourite (opened at c. 8/13) and performed live
Best Internationla Breakthrough - Justin Bieber, winning favourite
Best International Group - Arcade Fire, well supported in market (not sure whether they opened as favs, but heavily backed), performed live
Best International Album - Arcade Fire, winning favourite (as above, not sure of opening price but very well supported) and performed live

In summary, there was a very high percentage of winning favourites - and continuing the trend from 2010 (when ALL winners performed live on the night) the vast majority of winners were also booked to perform live on the awards show.

Last year a new producer took over the Brits Awards - with greater emphasis on the live performances, so as soon as these are announced they'll be a key indicator as to the likely winners again this year.

probably about as many firms playing as we're likely to get.  Don't think they like these awards much, and I can understand why.  Most "punters" only trying to get on when they know the result.

1D asking their millions of twitterers to vote for them. Do we know if this makes them worthy favs for best single? Any idea what the volume of voting is?

working on the theory that its is as much about the show as the awards

International female likely to perform:
Beyonce a million
Bjork a million
Lady Gaga highly unlikely
Rihanna do anything, be anywhere
Feist surely not

so I took the 4/5 Rihanna

Rihanna is performing mate so it looks a good bet. That said of the 7 announced performers it does look like 2 will miss out, I have a small interest on Noel Gallagher for Best Male as he's performing and this is the only award he's up for, however when you look at the price crash on Foo Fighters for International Band, the fact he's drifted to 7/2 probably means it's going to Ed Sheeran as if not you'd think those 'in the know' would already be on...

Same thoughts re: Florence and the Machine whose up for 2 awards but as she's up against Adele in both categories it seems unlikely. Out of interest and if anyone remembers, when did Laura Marlings price start to shorten last year?

The other interesting move seems to be for Military Wives but surely they aren't going to beat One Direction (sort of hope they do as I was kicking myself for not taking 2/1 on 1D).

The other market which might be worth playing would be British Breakthrough as it's down to a public vote and I'd agree with the previous poster that Jessie J might be a touch of value as I'm not sure Ed Sheeran has the same committed fan base of a JLS or 1D to justify his price.

Always make loads of cash on the brits as the bookies seem clueless when pricing it up. My 3 main bets are 1 Direction to win best single (although coverd Military Wives as theyve been gambled on at 5s and JLS given they have previous, but find it hard to see either getting enough votes to beat 1D), Bruno Mars to win Best International Male (looks a cert to me cant believe Bon Iver was fav when they opened up the betting) and Rhinnna for Best Internation Female (as has already been said shes performing the rest arent, and shes had a better year than GaGa). Also had a bit on Gallagher as I feel they might give it him because of Blur winning outstanding contribution and hes performing. Also managed to get some money on the Foos at 13/2 before the gamble went crazy. Couldnt believe JayZ/Kayne were favs and I make it between the Foos and Maroon 5 who I have also backed.
Backing Adele to win Best Female is surely buying money, I wouldnt want to lay her thats for certain.

Ed Sheeran has debuted the music video for his new single 'Drunk' online.

The singer-songwriter told fans that once a link to vote for his track 'The A Team' as 'Best British Single' for this year's Brit Awards is clicked over 100,000 times, he would release the official music video.

Sheeran has now released the new clip, which sees him getting drunk with his pet cat and playing computer games with it.

'Drunk' is the fourth cut to be lifted from Sheeran's debut LP +, which topped the chart on its release last September.

Sheeran will face nine other songs in the 'Best British Single' category, including Jessie J's 'Price Tag', Adele's 'Someone Like You' and Example's 'Changed The Way You Kiss Me'.

The Wanted, JLS and One Direction all have nominations and have heavily encouraged their fans to vote for them on social networking sites with the prospect of gaining virtual badges and posters.

Interesting to see Noel performing.  You wouldn't have thought he'd even bother turning up unless he had a steer that he was going to win something - particularly on the night of Blur's crowning glory... Ed Sheeran could win Best Breakthrough and Noel Best Male?  Looks increasingly likely...
