With the nominations due out today, I thought it would be worth kicking things off with a recap on last year's winners, to give us some clues for 2012:
Best British Male - Plan B, winning favourite (opened at c. 4/6) and performed live Best British Female - Laura Marling, suprise choice (opened at c. 11/2) but heavily backed by those 'in the know'; weak ante-post favs in Cheryl Cole and then Ellie Goulding Best British Album - Mumford and Sons, winning favourite (opened at c. 10/11) and performed live Best Single (voted by public) - Tinie Tempah with Pass Out, second favourite (opened at c. 4/1) and performed live Best Group - Take That, winning favourite (opened at c. 4/9) and performed live Best Breakthrough Artist - Tinie Tempah, winning favourite (opened at c. 11/10), and performed live International Male - Ce-Lo Green, second favourite (opened at c. 7/2) well backed and flip flopped with Eminem, performed live Best International Female - Rihanna, winning favourite (opened at c. 8/13) and performed live Best Internationla Breakthrough - Justin Bieber, winning favourite Best International Group - Arcade Fire, well supported in market (not sure whether they opened as favs, but heavily backed), performed live Best International Album - Arcade Fire, winning favourite (as above, not sure of opening price but very well supported) and performed live
In summary, there was a very high percentage of winning favourites - and continuing the trend from 2010 (when ALL winners performed live on the night) the vast majority of winners were also booked to perform live on the awards show.
Last year a new producer took over the Brits Awards - with greater emphasis on the live performances, so as soon as these are announced they'll be a key indicator as to the likely winners again this year.
nah not at all Squares. Would like there just to be 1 big American singing show but with Idol/The Voice and X Factor now I cant really be bothered.
Plus, used up all my good calls in Idol in series 8 and 9
Wonder what our Voice liquitity will be like? Will certainly getting involved bigtime in Eurovision.

Ed Sheeran will go the same way as so many other acts who have received huge fanfare at Brits and shortly afterwards their career has nose-dived down the toilet - Mumford & Sons and The Darkness springing to mind. I must be getting old cos all these pop acts sound so, so bland to me. It's like the entire event is this awful homogenized, Photo-shopped, corporate backslap. Maybe it always was but at least there was some spontaneity back in the day.

The ads between the show, squares... the whole thing is an horrendous, cynical marketing exercise. One Direction, Bruno Mars, Olly Murs... ffs, UK, grow some balls, discover some music taste and reject this mainstream, commercial garbage. It is pure marketing.

Don't mind Blur and always liked New Order. I'd get rid of The Specials, and include The Cure, Depeche Mode or Radiohead instead - that would be an Olympic concert worth seeing.

She was the only one on offer at a vaguely backable price, fig. I was annoyed cos I saw Lads offer 4-1 she'd sell over 100,000 units of her album in 1st week of UK sales. She duly did and I didn't get anything on that.
