Also think I'll take the best price available pre Augusta for Rory. Course is ideal for him and may be favourite for it if his pre season from is ok. Augusta/US open double major and world #1 also may get him the place

The early value is the 5/2 for a female to win with William Hill. I also see Bradley Wiggins has been cut from 100/1 to 10/1!
By:
Realistically the chance of Wiggins winning the Tour is closer to 100/1 than 10/1
By:
Can't see Wiggins winning the tour either. He ought to win Spoty if he did, but in an olympic year who knows

...and although there won't be betting on it the GB Sailing team might just be team of the year
Home advantage in sailing should not be underestimated and we had 6 medals at Bejing and 6 at the recent World Championships I think. What other Olympic Sport will surpass that medal haul? |
By:
anyone know if you can get more than 1 Olympic gold in dressage?
By:
2 medal events apparently

More tho
![]() A total of 200 athletes will compete for six gold medals in the sport of Equestrian during the 2012 Games |
By:
Ah, two in dressage, six in equestrian overall. Makes perfect sense

By:
Thanks Cider its these type of events most punters just don't think about. Not saying it will happen but in an Olympic year its not inconceivable; its why the current favourites look very poor value to me

By:
and re the Sailing it was 6 medals in the recent Worlds and that didn't include Ainslie!! 1 gold, 4 silver, 1 bronze. Willing to wager large sums it will be better in 2012

I see some of you muct be on Wiggins, 100/1 now 10/1.
Bexley, my other bet (at moment) will be Ainslie each way at 20's. Seem to recall him coming a suprising fourth when Hoy won last olympics and I think that was down to his VT on the night as came across very affable. Hoy at 20's represents some value, but not like the 100/1 we got 4 years ago. He is less certain to win his golds this time round, but if he does then arguably is approaching Sir Steve Redgrave status (better IMO as Steve's was a team sport and arguably got carried towards the end). |

I remember a bike rider from the 60/70s called ColinLewis. A long time ago but maybe from the West Country and rode for Holdsworth?

I'm astonished by Kauto Star hysteria, even in broadsheets. Frontrunner for next Sports Personality of the Year? |
By:
Not convinced by Ainslie's credentials. Sailing doesn't provide a great VT - it's hard to even work out the finishing line. Plus I don't really see a sailing lobby getting behind him in the same way cycling and racing has in recent years.
Not sure if my usual tactic of backing Murray early will work this year - he might need to win Wimbledon even to be in the frame with the Olympics. |
By:
Ainslie should be 1000/1 surely?
By:
Fifth last time? Not bad really. But surely usurped by anyone winning 2+ golds

As AM says I can't really see a campaign going far enough

from Southern Daily Echo, today's date
HAMPSHIRE Olympic hotshot Ben Ainslie is under investigation by Great Britain’s sailing body following his recent disqualification from the World Championships in Perth. Triple gold medallist Ainslie grabbed the headlines on the penultimate day of racing in the Finn Gold Cup when he swam from his dinghy over to a media boat and shouted at the driver for allegedly impeding him while racing. The Hamble-based Royal Yachting Association will conduct its own investigation into the incident after a report from an international jury found him guilty of breaking rule 69 relating to gross misconduct. Ainslie was disqualified from two races, putting him out of contention for a medal. The results of the inquiry are expected in the New Year. |

a strong run on david beckham is an early gamble ..200 down to 40
i'm trying to understand why ? |
By:
Fair shout by the R.Post - Beckham looks highly likely to captain Team GB football team at the Olympics. Team GB football team major contenders for gold medal. A gold medal-winning Team GB football team led by Beckham just about the perfect platform for him to make the short-listed 10 and go on to finish top 3. 50-1 value imho.
