And Farah double gold would be toppled on pv by Ennis winning gold imho - probably better value backing both in this market than getting involved in their individual events at the Olympics. Farah 6s for double with WH but 10s ew for SPOTY 2012.

Well assuming we have at least 15 Olympic gold medallists to choose from next year, you have to look at those who win more than one or those who have won at previous olympics and do the business again.
So for what it's worth heres my short list and thoughts on the other sports. Ben Ainslie - He will be the 'Steve Redgrave' candidate if he wins again, great track record and the recent controversy putting him in the headlines won't hurt. Middle England spoty viewers will lap him up. Rebecca-ka-ka Adlington - quite capable of repeating last times heroics which will make her greatest all time british swimmer by a mile and a serious candidate. Mo Farah - Figure he'll probably need to do the double to win it, but a 'brit' winning olympic track title against the kenyans and ethiopians would be a very powerful image which the beeb will not undersell. Of the rest, Jess Ennis will have to find 12 metres on her javelin throw if her conqueror in this years worlds turns up fit and healthy. As for the usual suspects Murray, Hamilton, Button et al - Nah! Which brings us to Football and the absolute certainty of England winning the euros. If it's on a penalty shoot out in the final against our good friends from lederhosenland, then Joe Hart home and hosed, whilst if it's via thoroughly outplaying the strolling senors in the final then Adam Johnston for his double in that game and the last minute winner against Italy in the semis . Now where was I before that chandelier fell from the ceiling rendering me unconscious for two minutes. Ah yes Cricket. Difficult to see a winner from here with no Aussies in the firng line, so it would need record breaking performances with bat or ball to put someone in the frame. Batsmen would have it all to do against South Africa's pace attack, so a thirty wicket series as a minimum from Swann or Anderson to give them a squeak. Golf, a first major from Westwood or Donald would be powerful or a second from McIlroy. Probably two slam event wins though would be required in a potentially very strong year. Cycling we cannot now ignore and if Chris Hoy can get his old bones to the top of the podium again, he'll be a contender. Not sure Cav can do a repeat but he can certainly put some votes in the bank for future years, when he approaches Merckx's records. Boxing candidates seem to be few and far between, although a classy gold medal performance from a new name preferably beating a flashy yank in the final could do the trick. Rugby, without a world event, will struggle to put up a contender. My early money therefore will be split between the first three I named, Ainslie,Adlington and Farah, but as ever I'm sure I've missed the winner out completely. Is there anybody out there who backed the last four winners (Hoy, Giggs, McCoy and Cavendish) in January? Finally, any chance of a new award this year, 'Best British Sports personality never to win the award'. I'll start the nominations with Lester Piggott and George Best. |

There will be a host of sports people with Gold medals, so what is needed is something to distinguish someone from the rest.
The Tour De France course will suit Wigins this year (plenty of time trials). He is as low as 8/1 to win the Tour. He will then go straight to the Olympics where he should pick up gold in the team pursuit. if he bags that double then 100/1 each way 1/5 123 with Ladcrooks for SPOTY is MASSIVE!!!! (Particularly as the cyclists have proved they have the backing to win this show). 100/1 is stand out and won't last long. He is 20/1 and 14/1 for SPOTY elsewhere. Do yourselves a favour and get on today! |

Very good shout on Wiggins as value. He was one I was meaning to back but the price is gone. 25's best I can see which I think may get higher on here once it settles down, maybe not

I think Ainslie ew at 20's is the way to go. Surely someone will have an exceptional year and beat him but winning gold making it 4 Olympic gold one silver must earn him a place??

Colin what do you think of Hoy's value. Doesn't look good to me with that French track sprinter looking awesome and some competition from within his own team for a sprint spot? Kirrin a bit of a lottery?
