Probably didn't fully back himself on blue, played it hard enough so it'd likely come away somewhat from pocket and tried to screw white back onto cushion. Still left it difficult enough mind, but John Higgins of old just gets down and pots it and this isn't John Higgins of old.

Yeah, rolling in the blue probably the best option but would have left a long pink from the cushion with only one snooker needed...but still better to take that chance, imo |
