Higginson wins the frame on the final black, 4-1.
Wakelin blows another good chance to punish Judd errors, 3-2 Judd. |

Wakelin looks like he just doesn't have the mental fortitude to ever beat one of the big names, even if they're having a shocker of a day themselves.... 4-2 Judd.
4-2 Jak J. |

Judd concedes, 62 behind, 59 on, 4-3 Judd

4-3 Jak J

Jak J gets first crack, gets to 34 and misses. Tubbs clears, Winonaville.

By:
Excellent break from Jak J to win it, beats Tubbs 5-4.

That was fun, love a good safety battle (Grant: "what a purist!").
Love to know how judd really feels after these matches. Is it, fck, played sh!t again today or, great, another win while never out of my c game. Think more former than latter at moment tbh |

It's got to be getting to him, doesn't it? He didn't have a single 50 in those 8 frames.... Remarkable....
|
|
By:
I'd say so, it's not unusual to see him struggle early rounds a bit, but you'd usually see him move up through the gears as he progressed. That not really happening lately though, for whatever reason.

Eurosport did say that he'd said he was feeling tired in his post-match yesterday....

Where are you at with Si tonight, mate? It took all I could manage to not put Ford up, I have to say.
|

By:
Si steals, 1-0. 1-0 Page over Dotty
|
|
By:
Sorry mate, am bit tied up today and ended up missing these matches. Fwiw I'm neutral on Si today, Ford plays well he probably win. I was considering selt earlier but let it go. I see Page is 1-0, have actually noted him a couple of times this season as showing a few glimpses of form, just maintaining a watching brief for worlds.

No worries, mate! Have a good evening!
1-1 Dotty, 1-0 JB over Holty. |

3-2 Dotty

Considering how much market opposition there was to JB, that was pretty ruthless - 5-0.
|
|
By:
Si gets to frameball, runs out of position. Ford leaves him snookered on the one red he's happy to play (two others on the black cush, not snookered on), Si misses the red he plays, leaves a freeball, and Ford runs out the frame. 4-1 Si.
4-2 Dotty |

3-1 Selt

Ford gets to 58 - didn't see how he broke down. Si wins in one-visit, 5-1!

5-2 Dotty

4-1 Selt

Another decent scalp for Si. Don't know if he played well or Ford was just rubbish, or combination of both even.
|
|
By:
TBH, mate, I only had about a quarter of an eye on it (had positions on Selt and JB). Ford didn't look desperately invested at 4-0, but I've not idea if that was how he started or if that's just a result of how things transpired. Si made 5x 50s in 6 frames, so hard to knock him, whatever Ford did or didn't do!
|

By:
4-2 Selt
|
|
By:
True enough mate. Hope selt gets it done for you, no investment but he did look the interesting one tonight for me. Zhao just looks to have tapered off a bit lately, but still dangerous it goes without saying!

5-2 Selt

This does feel like a weird tournament, TBH, mate.
|
|
By:
Yeah mate, i know i go on about it a but, but i really think a lot of these lads are tired. Not that they play loads of matches, but the pressure and constant strain adds up. I think half of them are mentally fried. Hossein said he basically collapsed in his hotel room after the judd match, he'd nothing left. Tbh i thought he might be vulnerable today but won well to be fair to him.

Interesting! Must admit, I've not watched many of the interviews the last couple of weeks. Still think the obvious solution is to have a few tournaments that aren't for the top 16/32. They're the ones who are playing the most. And the lower-ranked players would benefit from more actual competitive matches. As we discussed a few weeks back, there was that pretty much 2 month window from Dec through to early/mid-Feb where there was literally nothing for them.
Lets be honest, when China's back, assuming they don't adopt the "China Swing" idea, there's going to be even more travel again.... |
|
By:
Ah, maybe i make too much of it lats, bit of a hobby horse. But 100% the lower ranked guys not getting enough games, that doesn't help anybody.
Here's something else weird: ronnie skips this week but will be playing Gibraltar. I think there might be some bonus he's in contention for there but still, pretty sure i remember him dissing that tournament a few years back! Won't be around early doors so am getting on Wu Yize to beat Lu Ning early. A kid with obvious potential against a plodder, albeit a fairly decent plodder! Beaten by Ng On Yee won't be the highlight of his season, but did beat Lu in the UK and have liked the admittedly little I've seen of him. Only 5/4 but will have to do! |
