I really despair at the wokeness of these so-called safety rules about head injuries: they are ruining rugby matches more than some of the pointless technical penalties dished out: obviously no-one wants to see dangerous play but so many of these decsions for  both yellow and red cards are ridiculous: this was a classic - the rugby commentator obv hadnt a clue just now believing it would be upgraded to a red for Portugal: but clearly in realtime the Ozzie player put his head first and ran right into the unfortunate Portuguese no 13 and was at least 6-% ro blame unless we want players to move out the way of attacking runners: clearly this was a mitigating factor but it shouldnt have even been a yellow card: the Ozzies amassed a big lead in those 10 mins whih has pretty much ruined the game.  We need a total rethink on this , especially the algorithms attached to the rules [loafrgely illogical, unless its obviously deliberate, foul and dangerous play]  and still teach players about safety for their heads and necks wigth better tackling butg the attackers also need to be less reckless.

What a broken team Australia are? Eddie Jones is a disaster and no wonder England did so poorly when he managed them. Portugal could have kicked enough penalties to win the game if they didn't keep trying to score tries.

Can't say Portugal haven't had some chances

Or make them wear head protection as other sports do.

Or is that too woke too.

I've seen some dreadful states after rugby games, and
long term dementia likely caused by repeated concussions.

This has been a decent game, Portugal way better
than I expected, and Aussies must have a decent
league team if this is state of their union.

FT - Aus 34 - 14 Por -- Whatever this "Rugby Union World League" that seems to loom on the horizon is - World rugby needs to help Portugal/Georgia/Canada etc get far more chances to play.

Portugal and Georgia could easily play off with
a n other and Italy for a place in 6 nations.

Yep - probably 6N/new world league be ring-fenced - no idea about promotion/relegation

Without doubt the worst Aussie side I have ever seen in all the years I have been watching them. The trouble is there are too many youngsters playing another enough with experience. How Nick want playing at scrum half beggers belief. The backs had no idea, just rushing up as individuals not a straight line in sight. Absolutely awful defending. The Forwards did their best but it was painful ful watching I can imagine for all those that could of been bothered watching back home. What you think San Quentin?

Australia need a massive overhaul at the top

The game needs them back at the top, it's poor for the sport not having them properly competing

We have our problems but we always have upturns in form eventually

As for the 6 nations it needs a good competitor to Italy for the final spot

It seems a strange scenario has been thrown up where:-

Scotland beat Ireland with a try BP 5-0 win  with a 21+ point margin of victory and come 2nd

Scotland win 5-1 with both getting a try BP but a 21+ point margin of victory and come 1st

So if they are winning by, say 18 points there could be a scenario where it would be be in Irelands interest
to let Scotland score again and put SA out and guarantee them A QF place. I think that is how it would workCrazy

I doubt any of that will be in play but if that is the case it is odd. It has given me a headache thinking about it.

Im sure, given that scenario that the two teams wouldn't even dream of doing anything underhand that would knock out the world champions........

what a wally. just about to give it large and does that

seriously bonus points are a stoopid idea. teams losing by 5 with time running out (sometimes) no longer try to win becuase they have a point and dont risk giving away a penalty or dropping the ball and allowing the opposition a chance to take the bonus away from them. they accept a defeat and spurn the chance to win

that cannot be a good thing. teams not wanting to win is the very antithesis of sport

and its a matter of time before a team wins every game and doesnt win the comp because the team that finished 2nd and they beat home and away accrued a load of bonus points beating up teams who had nothing to play for at the end of the year

it nearly happened in nz. makes a mockery of the game

Well we are lucky that we don't have VAR in this world cup after listening to that absolute nonsense from the Spurs game at the weekend. At least we can see and hear everything from the TMO and the discussions with the referee and touch judges.
