Great weekend of rugby!

I don't think Irl are No.1 either - but I don't think there is a clear No.1. SA and NZ ( the final) have both been beaten by Irl and Fra respectively.
Can't separate them - in the 4 matches between them in this WC - all of them were incredibly close - miniscule margins. |

early thoughts on pricing up SA v NZ final? SA trading at 2.04 atm for the whole thing, so SA 1.85ish for the final?
|
|
By:
Wallflower..not how you start but how you finish in the KO stages that count and define you
also,to win o/sof your own HS,away from home in a tumultous cauldron of support for your adversary is laudable fantastic w/end of rugby and hugely dramatic and entertaining to boot..lights out |

This will also be another all Soh final on northern soil, NZ v Aus in 2015

Remember Sunderland v Leeds ,Liverpool v Wimbledon, Saudi Arabia v Argentina, Japan v South Africa, USA v England.
Shocks happen and that what makes Sport great.Tiger winning his last open!!! Anything can happen so just enjoy the ride guys |

johnnythebull 15 Oct 23 22:08 Joined: 19 Mar 14 so,why is it the SH hold sway so much over the NH? ok,so Rugby U is a religion in NZ and almost at the same level in SA but even so Easy. Apart from cattle they have nothing else to do in the Southern Hemisphere. They don’t play football! |
|
By:
Nothing at all between the BIG 4 - NZ - Boks - Fra - Ire. The 2 quarter finals could have went the other way.

This news will come as a great surprise to Argentina and Brazil. The schedule is tilted in favour of the SH teams though. None of the Five Nations countries have ever been given a bye in the final week of pool patches, whereas South Africa have been given this advantage in the last three WCs, Argentina twice and Australia once. https://green-all-over.blogspot.com/2023/10/springboks-off-bye.html |

Or maybe they are just better?

That was an epic battle. It will be remarkable if South Africa can bring that same level to the game next week.

Eng have acquitted themselves far better than the naysayers were predicting and per their coach are chippy as a result
but let's not delude ourselves, tho' anything can happen on any given day esp in KO sport the Saffers are unlikely to need to 'bring that same level' in the forthcoming encounter tho' they will by no means be complacent |

The more I analyse that game last night the French were very unlucky. The big call for Etzebeth's attempted interception was a massive call. The charge down on the conversion from Kolbe. A few other tight calls could have went in their favour as well. The French with the younger squad out of the TOP 4 teams will have a bright future.

As RWC'S go I've enjoyed it-but I do find it very disappointing that both the semi finals appear to be so one sided.
I know they won't,but both SA and NZ could probably afford to play 2nd string teams and still win with plenty in the tank. In my opinion We currently have 4 teams in World Rugby that are head and shoulders above the chasing pack-yet We only get to see 2 of them in the semi finals. Both Ireland and NZ and France v SA were amazing games to watch. I suppose the only shining light is that We should have a cracking Final in a couple of weeks, |
|
By:
Don`t know if this has been said already but the groupings should be decided much closer to the event to minimise the likelihood of the world`s four best teams facing each other at the quarter final stage. However, it has allowed England supporters some enjoyment at least up to the semi final stage.

The one good thing about the unfortunate draw
That was an epic battle. It will be remarkable if South Africa can bring that same level to the game next week Is that SA will nog have to bring the same level of intensity, which, bodes well for the final. SA v NZ is rightly regarded as the World Championships of Rugby C’mon Kings of the North! |

A great weekend of rugby, but did the best teams win?
Can't help but think if all 4 results had been reversed then the attacking intent would carry forward and make rugby a more attractive game. |
|
By:
You have to laugh, In response I would say that defence is part of the game as well.
|
|
By:
The French must be absolutely kicking themselves imo.
In other news, has anyone looked at that juicy 17.0 England on the outright and thought, "It's sport, anything could happen?" Nah, me neither. ![]() |
|
By:
Defence is a huge part of the game, I love to see it.
I was a defensive full back, and kicker. My ponderings were just wonderings, but we need teams to attack as without attack there's no game. 4 very enjoyable games |
|
By:
Slippy you are probably right but there are 1.01 gubbings on here almost ever day !
What is strange though is they were only about 16/1 before group games. And they are the only group winners! And who knows they might be playing Argentina in the final ..... |
|
By:
"The French must be absolutely kicking themselves imo."
They tried to kick themselves, but it was blocked... |
|
By:
Id sooner take the 50s on Argentina than the 17 on us
I think there's more chance of Argentina beating NZ than us beating the saffers Would be ironic if both got through after id spent all our pool games sl@gging off our games |
|
By:
Well you never know Sontaran! The Argies have beaten the All Black's twice in the last couple of years. The most sensible pragmatic thing is that New Zealand and South Africa will meet in the final but .....? Ps you won't actually get rich backing that outcome. But for those sitting on ante post bets on either of the two big teams winning, thats a different matter.I have really enjoyed tournament so far and its been great to have so many of you on the forum. Normally just Slippy, EVSA, and a couple of others.Good to see you back Stewards!! As for San Quentin probably won't see him till next Rugby league World Cup!!! Let's have a great weekend guys.

I have absolutely zero doubt Nathan Cleary is the greatest player all time with the oval ball.Any code ,any park ,any comp, any year, any season.

By:
Enjoy the game SQ, I know he is your favourite player but to be fair he didn't really impress in the last World Cup and the Broncos didn't let him have much time on the ball in the last NRL final, so I am afraid the jury is still out on him being the best player on the planet !!!

S.Q. I was living in Lane Cove , North Sydney in the Mal Mainga, Alfie Langer, Chief Harragon era of rugby league. During that time I got my first taste of the "State of Origin" series.
What an absolutely amazing series that was to see and how it captivated the country let alone just N.S.W & Queensland. I've got tremendous memories of that and also the West Indies were on your with Brian Lara scoring that 277 @ S.C.G. and being there for that. Amazing times indeed. |
