I am surprising even myself by leaning towards backing England at what I think is a generous 5/6 PP.

Their creative limitations remain, however they do the basics very well and keep the scoreboard ticking over through 3 pointers.  Their discipline is good and their pressure defence is very effective.  They remain grounded, with little fear of complacency unlike previous English teams in similar situations.

Wales appear to me to be far below their form of previous seasons.  They are struggling to create quick ball necessary to create and their backline has lost potency as a result.

Granted Wales have nothing to lose and will no doubt be licking their lips at the prospect of depriving England a Slam.  If England hold their nerve, I expect them to win.

i'll give you evs Ozymandius, pretty confident of a Welsh victory, though would have been far happier if flood was playing.

if Flood was playing a fair few Englishmen, myself included, would be backing Wales

it is a worry for me that he is lurking on the bench

Ashton v North could be pretty messy, and potentially career-ending (from an international perspective) for Splashdown..

Basically, if we get into an arm-wrestle, we lose. Front up, take the hits and move it, we win. First time I can recall for a while whereby we'll be expected to shade the scrums.

As for the line outs.....errm, change the subject.....

We've never had a good lineout since i can remember, its great if we win our own lineout but we never challenge on the opposing teams lineout.  a sore subject for years, best to keep the ball in play.

Really struggling to make up my mind on this match.

How come there is no chat about it on here?  Grand Slam Championship decider, biggest match of the season etc...come on lads sort it out!

We are all too busy thinking about the wooden spoon decider at 2:30pm

This one looks tight as a drum. If I decide on anything it will probably be to back low winning margins and expect it to go down to the last play.

There haven't been many posts on the thread ICBD because between yourself and sewter you have pretty much summed up all their is to be said.I am in total agreement.

My only hope is that England are far enough in front before Flood has to make an appearance because I think they would target him rather than Ashton.

ireland -6,5 at 2.1

khyber kim I reckon Wales game plan will revolve around aiming right at Ashton either by kicking or running at him.

If Farrell is injured early then Flood will get a big dose of Welshmen running straight at him as well.

I dont think either Ashton or Flood will be up to it.

Another thing Flood will not be anywhere to be found if a last minute drop goal is required-he has previous form at Leicester of going missing when needed.

A couple of bets for me.

Half time Ireland/Italy Full time 11/1
Half time Ireland/Draw Full time 66/1

If you look at the Ireland games so far after making bright starts in the first half, they just seem to collaspe after half time. And I'm hoping the crowd might spur the Azure into a comeback 2nd half.

Will also be doing a similar bet in the Welsh game as Wales always seem better to me coming from behind.

England half time/Wales full time 8/1

Eng HT Wales FT is 9.5 at Skyebet, Stewards. Saw that tipped earlier by Russ Petty and had a go at it too.

Italy Ireland is impossible to call for me. Have to watch it for a bit to get an idea of which teams have turned up.

Reckon it will be the other way round lads. NO doubt Wales usually finish the stronger but possible Grand Slam jitters and the look of the two benches makes me think Wales ht Eng ft. GL though

If this was week one I'd be v happy to back the draw pre at 25 but it looks a poor pre-match bet in the decider as neither team will be interested in levels with Eng hoping to nail a slam and Wales going hell for leather late to win by 7+.  I'll just pick up some coverage in running.

I think the outright will be interesting to keep an eye on today as I'm with MB in thinking Wales can come out and build a lead in the first half.  Can't believe BF haven't done a Wales -6.5 market.  I know there is an outright market, but this cap in the main match markets would surely see a lot of interest?

i think england will come out and mean buisness in this game lads.they didnt seem at the races in the italy game but the welsh are tough lot to beat at home
my bet is england -1@evs

I imagine Wales might take a 3 pointer to level things late on if the chance of winning by 7 is gone, or I suppose if a few minutes remain and they are 3 down they have to get a pen and a try anyway so have to go for it. The will to deny England the slam will be strong, but it has to all add up conveniently for the draw to be possible. I can't see any situation in which England will settle for the draw, bar maybe being deep in their half with time up.

I can see only one factor which will stop England here- and its stopping me from backing England pre-match.
Its the state of the pitch: if its turns into a ploughed field at every scrum the game is a coin toss- England will need firm feet to show their forward's superiority

IF the pitch holds up- England will push forward- get pressure penalties and kick the points - job done.

Should we see the first 3 scrums in different areas without feet problems - i'll be backing england with my head and my heart.

Great days viewing ahead lads- enjoyCool

Can anyone explain why England penalty is 2.5, whilst Wales penalty is 2.9? In an evens match, away from home, that seems ludicrous?

all based on starting prices Moaner and you can throw them out of the window. I suppose Wales are more likely to score a try, but it's not by much and we could see pens all day anyway.

Walsh gets plenty of slagging on here but he generally allows the game to flow. No  Joubert or Barnes to produce a goal kicking comp. definitely advantage Wales .
