englands defence was generally good but they didn't smash anyone to bits. they missed quite a few tackles too.

Do Italy have counter attacking skills of any form bar Masi?  Hopefully Canale/Benvenuti can conjur something up this week.

At least in Benvenutti they have someone that looks like they might just have someone who can see a gap and head for it, rather than running into a defender and dropping the ball.

Masi looks a real danger these days. Cracking performances last year and he's a real danger for any team. Needs some help though and doesn't tend to get it from these dopey wingers.

No, McLean has never looked up to the job and I can't remember anything about the other guy so he must have had a Deaconesque type game as well.

Only thing he really achieved was flapping at Malzieu.

Scotland certainly made more line breaks than England did last week. Bit more composure and they would have finished them off and won the game.

Can't see England cutting open the Italians either which means it will be a tight game based on kicking and forward play.

Will be interesting to see how Hodgson/Farrell's goal-kicking stands up in front of 75,000.

Should be a cracking atmosphere anyhow.

I'm not convinced that you can ever class a defensive display against Scotland as 'excellent'.  No sure Scotland would be capable of penetrating a ladies team, let alone 15 grown and determined men.  They ask only basic questions of a defensive sysytem, even with domination of possesion.

No reason for Farrell to crumble in front of a 75,000 crowd, he's kicked goals in the Grand Final last year in front of an equally big audience.

would England have stuck with the same team

if

a couple of Scottish passes had stuck, in particular Rennie's pass to Blair

Yeah, looks easy today.

Not sure how you could do anything other than fade Eng at the price in these conditions.

I thought the Italian pack looked very impressive at times v Fra.  Their midfield was a nightmare but that should be better this week.  Just need the 10 to do anything sensible and we will have a game on

Absolutely inevitable that there will be "boring England" comments after this game, but that pitch is a horrendous mess. NZ v Australia would be a nonsense on a pitch like that.

Hate to think what the pitch will be like tonight(I can't see tonights game going ahead)

Going to make it a lot easier for England though if Italy make so little of turnover ball as they did there. Hopeless.

How did they knock that on ffs?

Going to be another Italy game where they do well in all areas, except converting chances, and lose as a result to a team that they should have beaten.
