Afternoon lads.  Great to be back.  Interesting opener with both teams much changed from last season.  I just think that the fervour and excitement of returning to SL might carry Widnes through tonight.  Would be nice to get off to a good betting start as well !!!

poss the knowledge of the chemics new i pitch may swing it their wayExcited
Report Ldee February 3, 2012 5:07 PM GMT
Briscoe, Flynn and Watts missing for Widnes might explain a drift on their price. I'd be weary about backing any team with Ah Van in. Having said that I could say the same about Mathers with Wakey.
Report RugbyMan February 3, 2012 5:08 PM GMT
Who is going to get them any points out on the field though? That's a genuine question. Widnes look poor on paper and the man their season probably hangs on isnt in the 19.

I'm not saying that Wakey look world beaters though.
Report RugbyMan February 3, 2012 5:09 PM GMT
Ldee - that is a hell of a contest for biggest liability in superleague. Both can do good, but both can also be hopeless.
Report twonky February 3, 2012 5:27 PM GMT
Best bet tonight is the 1-5 mins of 1st Wakey cry..." Bloody'ell Mathers!!"Blush
Report Ldee February 3, 2012 5:30 PM GMT
Agree RM Mathers is shocking in defence but he's ok going forward. Wakey have a couple of expirienced strike players in Aiton and Smith with a half decent 3/4 line. Only thing putting me of backing them is this new artificial pitch! God knows what thats going to do to the kicking game, something to focus on in running.
Report Arleystation February 3, 2012 5:56 PM GMT
Can anyone confirm please whether it will be Ah Van kicking the 2-pointers for Widnes? Have a feeling Betts will be asking them to take whatever is on offer in a possible tight game.
Report Sheriff730 February 3, 2012 6:35 PM GMT
If it's any use, he kicked in the friendly against Saints a couple of weeks ago.
Report Barton Bank February 3, 2012 6:52 PM GMT
Ah Van is first choice kicker with Craven, Haggerty and White as possible alternatives. Would have been confident of a Widnes win with Watts, Briscoe, Flynn and Davies in the side. Also Kite and Phelps yet to arrive.
Report Arleystation February 3, 2012 7:01 PM GMT
Thanks, both.

wot shyte there banging on with about the pitch!

Players might get cramp?? wtf Laugh

Wrong cleats & watch them crash to the deck as they miss the cutbacks against the grain.

As for kicking, flat kick & the ball with keep rolling, so with the cold weather it'll be knock on season tonight

good to see widnes back in the big time,it`s been far to long, the league would be ideal if the pointless london broncos were given the boot and halifax brought back, they`ve been playing for 30 years in london now and it`s still not taken offScared
i`ll be on the vikings tonight, home advantage and all that!

Report TheVis February 3, 2012 8:00 PM GMT
Draw looks a decent position to take at 30.  Will not drift higher than that in running in my opinion until somebody breaks the 2 score ahead barrier and every chance we are sub 20 before HT.

Report RugbyMan February 3, 2012 8:15 PM GMT
What a start to the season for Ben Cockayne. 2 bombs and a knock-on.

Bit chaotic this, but plenty of scope for entertainment. Neither team likely to defend their line properly.
Report RugbyMan February 3, 2012 8:20 PM GMT
Thaler on crack. How on earth can he have seen that "strip"?
Report RugbyMan February 3, 2012 8:23 PM GMT
If Widnes cant score with that much possession and that many decisions their way, they are in for a long game/season.
Report warringtonwire February 3, 2012 8:24 PM GMT
Outstanding defence to be fair
Report RugbyMan February 3, 2012 8:30 PM GMT
Great defence by Wakey and they follow it up with a try straight away.

Widnes really firing into everything, but they have a few daft players and are making too many errors.
Report RugbyMan February 3, 2012 8:32 PM GMT
"margin-meter"

What the ****?
Report RugbyMan February 3, 2012 8:34 PM GMT
Why did Mathers not just run for the try line ffs?

Clear space in front so he ducks back and lobs the ball to nobody.
Report TheVis February 3, 2012 8:38 PM GMT
bounced ball here but will be given

Report TheVis February 3, 2012 8:43 PM GMT
this margin meter is b*llocks.

12 point widnes win is now down to 3 points.  These lads need to start putting some money into the BF markets Laugh
Report TheVis February 3, 2012 8:45 PM GMT
+ whoever programmed it to come out with an odd number margin needs to do some recoding if that is the best they can come up with

don't mind that 6 point gap with Wakey looking lively enough in attack at times.
Report furrelli February 3, 2012 8:54 PM GMT
4pts would be bttr as they're kicker looks shyte & they're best attacks have been wide so far
Report stewardsenquirey February 3, 2012 8:58 PM GMT
I just can't think who they've added it for Confused No sane gambler will take any notice of it,and any viewers just watching the game without a bet won't give a hoot about it anyway.
It can only make it's self look stupid over the course of the season(They'll probably get it bang on tonight now I've said all that Laugh )
Report TheVis February 3, 2012 9:00 PM GMT
PMSL we are now at Widnes by 15.

Looks like we are due a DG boys.  Lump on Laugh
Report twonky February 3, 2012 9:01 PM GMT
How the fugg are Wakey losing this? Widnes are totally inept at defending, the left handside is useless, and Wakey easily making 30 yards from the 1st 3 ptb's.
Report RugbyMan February 3, 2012 9:01 PM GMT
There's no need for any science, some fat bloke in a studio can just say "Widnes have had a lot of ball, therefore they will win by 12"

It sums up the superleague coverage entirely to have a random score generator as a way of selling the sport.
Report TheVis February 3, 2012 9:02 PM GMT
The longer they keep coming up with an odd number margin the more ridicule it deserves to get.

They would be better plumbing into BF and translating the odds and saying "Widnes are now 58% likely to win the game from here"
Report TheVis February 3, 2012 9:07 PM GMT
knock on here
Report Isotonic. February 3, 2012 9:08 PM GMT
knock on ffs get on with it. Its knocked on in first instance

Fook me... That was a knock on all day for me
Report TheVis February 3, 2012 9:08 PM GMT
that suits me a lot but can't be having that decision at all
Report TheVis February 3, 2012 9:09 PM GMT
what the hell is the video ref looking at there

was a clear knock on from the angle with the ref in shot from behind sticks
Report RugbyMan February 3, 2012 9:11 PM GMT
I'm with you Isotonic, I think that was a knock-on.

On the plus side the video ref has no idea, but has given a positive result, which I like. Too many tries chalked off for no good reason.
Report RugbyMan February 3, 2012 9:14 PM GMT
This one looks clear cut. Held back all day long. Farce if given.
Report Isotonic. February 3, 2012 9:15 PM GMT
lol RM thats ome way to look at it. On another matter its looks almost impossible to turn on this pitch
Report TheVis February 3, 2012 9:18 PM GMT
take 2 lads
Report RugbyMan February 3, 2012 9:19 PM GMT
I find it much easier to forgive refs when they find a positive result.

In that case it would surely have been easier to just get it right though!!
Report TheVis February 3, 2012 9:19 PM GMT
yellow?
Report RugbyMan February 3, 2012 9:19 PM GMT

Jesus three high tackles and then just warning.. DOes this ref know Alain Roland??
Report RugbyMan February 3, 2012 9:22 PM GMT
Glad it was you that said that Iso Laugh

You have to just punch someone to stand a chance of yellow in this league.
Report RugbyMan February 3, 2012 9:31 PM GMT
Mathers gets one, but I think I could have finished that. Parted like the red sea.

Far from high quality tonight, but at least we have a game on.

Report TheVis February 3, 2012 9:42 PM GMT
oh well that yellow caps a poor night for me

laid Wakey just before the took the lead and have never recovered Sad
Report warringtonwire February 3, 2012 9:45 PM GMT
I think I have it. The meter automatically allocates points to the opposition when Mathers details are inputted.
Report MeanMrMustard February 3, 2012 9:46 PM GMT
Meter says 8 point win at 14-22. 5 seconds later, Wakey try. Fantastic bit of kit.
Report RugbyMan February 3, 2012 9:49 PM GMT
Taken Wakey a long time to prove it, but I think they have been, and are, the better team (although that may change when Widnes get some of their players back).

But with Mathers and Cockayne they can always give away some stupid tries.
Report MeanMrMustard February 3, 2012 9:51 PM GMT
Margin meter latest. Widnes by 17 points.
