Meloni isn't unreasonable in asking US/Israel to return the Straits to the way they were and yes Trump is obligated to do just that.

I don't think Iran are stronger, I think they are damaged, but
still capable of doing some damage.

They've played their poor hand as well as they could, and called out
a few of Trump and nettys bluffs.

Long term they can't win, but they don't need long term
strategy when under the cosh. Short termism is about
all they can hope for, until the bombs stop.

Your regular reminder that Iran doesn't need to constantly attack the Straits. It just needs to threaten to and to show that it's capable. It does that and no ship is going through as they are unable to get insurance, never mind the crew to do it.If it was so easy to just escort ships through safely the yanks would already be doing it and showing everyone else up for being cowards. The fact that they're so unwilling to put their own troops and hardware at risk is a little telling, no?Unfortunately, the way this has panned out so far is that we've now got a far stronger Iran than started. They've shown they can withstand the barrage, including the removal of key personnel, and have shown they have a huge amount of control over the fate of global economies. Any negotiation from now is gonna leave them much more powerful than it should have. Just imagine sitting down and them saying "If just one Israeli rocket hits our territory ever again, we won't fire back, we'll just start taking out ships." Just imagine the pressure then put on Israel to rein it in. Their worst nightmare come true. There's no chance of a public uprising to change the regime as they've quelled any dissent while this has been going on, being more brutal than ever. Their forces are scattered now. More like a guerilla outfit, so incredibly difficult to flatten. We may genuinely be looking at thousands of American and Israeli troops going in and spending years trying to dismantle the Republican Guard, and god knows what that does to how the rest of the world survives in the meantime.

Ok, you do actually speak a lot of sense and have a good grasp on the current situation. I wrongly judged you on your ridiculous comment above when you mentioned right-wingers and ethnic minorities. Silly

If it wasn't for the evils of SM algorithms we wouldn't be in this mess.  Trump is in power because of Social Media algorithms feeding people repetitively with the same junk information.  Many people get brainwashed and end up voting for an imbecile like Trump.  There's a minority of people on here falling for the BS.  It's not far off what the people of Iran and Russia, for example, have faced for decades.  A steady stream of distorted and fake news, but from totalitarian regimes, instead of algorithms

It's also why we've got an ever increasing polarization in politics.  Two separate people with wildly different views being fed two wildly different sets of fake news sent to their feed by these algorithms, perpetuating their distorted views.  All the while, in the background inequality gets worse.  Think that's also a reason for it, and a by product of it, so it's self perpetuating.

Countries can have rules on sanctions but capitalist enterprises just get their best lawyers on the case and figure out work-arounds through other countries or shell companies

It was also actual governments of EU countries (especially Germany) figuring out work-arounds as well as nations which basically support Russia. Plus the fact that Russians are just going to better than Western people at enduring whatever hardships arise.

the failure to secure or take the strait of hormuz before starting the bombing is a massive mistake, doing so would have been exceedingly difficult but to not do so has left the world at the whim of the irgc.

There is no military way to secure the straits, short of conquering Iran with 150,000 + troops. The drones can be launched from hundreds of miles inland.

and at end of day, USA got all the oil it needs and more,in fact a few dollars more on a barrel won't do them any harm.

Nice for America, but over here we have Ed Milliband and windmills

tobermory, today i read that they have a mountain deep within which are lots of munitions, they have lots of different sites to launch the bombs from off the mountain and they are not deterred if a launch site is detected and destroyed as they have so many others to use. i think the depth mentioned for the bombs being stored was 500 metres so there is no chance of destroying them by american bombs.

i think they have plenty of marine drones as well.

all the talk of them losing 90% of their arsenal or whatever seems fanciful.

i think what this war has taught us is that iran has plenty of leverage over the strait and that they are prepared to put up with lots of bombing themselves.

it is well documented that some of the israeli government want a greater israel, i hope i am wrong but i dont see the people of southern lebanon going home in the foreseeable future.

we all recognise that iran is a theocracy but there are religious fruitcakes in israel and in the american hierarchy. hegseth's words at a prayer meeting were the words of a fruit loop. in his interview with tucker carlson the american ambassador, mike huckabee, invoked the bible to justify israel expanding its land.

and now the houthis are joining in.

the war is going very badly but rather than back down trump seems more likely to send in ground troops which will probably make it even worse.

imo, this is the dumbest war of the century.

I don't believe it is a 'war' anymore.
The phoney war began with Dresident Pump's 5 day, now 10 day ultimatum to Iran to accept conditions.
Eff all can be done to release the economic stranglehold held by Eyeran with the blockade of the 'strait'...
...other than for his christian zionist masters to instruct the pressing of a nuclear bomb to end it in Japan like fashion.
He's fecked.
Eyeran could decimate the US proxy's sanitation and energy plants in the blink of an eye.
A global economy crash would send us all into a spin.
Dresident Pump needs to turn around, shake hands and call it a draw with Eyeran possibly agreeing to the oversight of its uranium enrichment programme purely engineered for energy production.

So far "winning" means..

Risk of future Iranian nuclear weapons increased
Regime change not achieved and no signs of it
Risk of future terrorist activity increased
Thousands of people killed already including a few hundred children
Likely prospect of a global recession.  Recessions are estimated to increase child mortality rates in developing nations by 6.9% and overall mortality rates by 4.6% in developing nations
Fears of a global famine from lack of fertiliser, blowing above estimates out of the water

Hate to know what losing means then
