you would think that the super rich people (or some of their employees) attracted to this venture would have carried out due diligence. sadly, it seems not.

tony bullimore's yacht was floating on the surface, let's hope this thing is too but that seems unlikely.

it's one of the most horrific ways you can die, knowing you're on a time limit, a countdown towards death, slow suffocation, in pitch blackness, 2 miles deep under water, with a 0.01% chance of survival, cannot imagine the levels of panic that's felt, the pain the families are going through, the agony, yet Pineapple's joke still made me laugh.

LaughPrevious guy said 250k each and with no GPS or radio in water they couldn’t find the titanic

As for a bad way to go, apparently you just lose consciousness when the oxygen level drops too low
It’s the thinking about it that makes it uncomfortable

If you can do a thing about it just drift off to sleep.

Presumably p1ss and sh1t swilling around

On the plus side, anyone who does manage to save em will have just won the lottery….

In fact…
What a venture, use titanic as a lure, get some of richest ppl in world to sign their lives away, sh1t em right up then save em last minute and collect

At the meeting Lochridge discovered why he had been denied access to the viewport information from the Engineering department—the viewport at the forward of the submersible was only built to a certified pressure of 1,300 meters, although OceanGate intended to take passengers down to depths of 4,000 meters. Lochridge learned that the viewport manufacturer would only certify to a depth of 1,300 meters due to experimental design of the viewport supplied by OceanGate, which was out of the Pressure Vessels for Human Occupancy (“PVHO”) standards. OceanGate refused to pay for the manufacturer to build a viewport that would meet the required depth of 4,000 meters

Been reading a bit about this - afraid to say I'd concur with the more pessimistic viewpoints.  Can't see these how they get rescued in time.

Leaving aside the irresponsibility of the whole venture from both the Oceangate and passengers perspective - what a horrific way to go.

The mental anguish - cramped, on top of other people, the smell, the fear, you would suspect one or more will 'lose it'.

I really hope I'm wrong , despite the craziness of the whole thing, cant imagine the horror of it.

If there was a fault with the "sub" then it surely imploded and is the size of a matchbox now , hopefully quick and painless. I can't see it still being intact and sitting at the bottom without setting off a rescue alarm of some description. Hope I'm wrong but 0.01% chance imo

Billionaire didn't die in huge rescue operation.

He did have something in common will the boat people though, choosing to put themselves in danger for a quick fix.

Refugees have the chance to travel the correct way instead of paying thousands to smugglers, and the correct way is a lot cheaper.

What is the correct way for a Syrian refugee to apply for asylum in the UK?

I find the level of coverage being devoted to this story indulgent and absurd. And the resources being devoted to a palpably lost cause. Excess deaths remain through the roof, this is thousands of people every week, just in the UK Nobody seems to care, or want to find out why. But they are obsessed with the plight of those who wilfully opted into a very high risk endeavour.

It's all there, assume France has the internet.

Eligibility
To stay in the UK as a refugee you must be unable to live safely in any part of your own country because you fear persecution there.

If you’re stateless, your own country is the country you usually live in.

This persecution must be because of:

your race
your religion
your nationality
your political opinion
anything else that puts you at risk because of the social, cultural, religious or political situation in your country, for example, your gender, gender identity or sexual orientation
You must have failed to get protection from authorities in your own country.

When your claim might not be considered
Your claim might not be considered if you:

are from an EU country
travelled to the UK through a ‘safe third country’
have a connection to a safe third country where you could claim asylum
Generally, a safe third country is one that:

you’re not a citizen of
you would not be harmed in
would not send you on to another country where you would be harmed

Ok, I'll ask again:

What is the correct way for a Syrian refugee to apply for asylum in the UK? Let's say he's in Homs, thinks he falls under the persecution rules for one or more of the points. How does he apply?

It does however state 'a safe third country', rather than eight or nine...

I've conveniently provided the flight path for you, then they can apply upon arrival. Although it is probably cheaper from Paris Charles de Gaulle.

So a Syrian under threat of political persection just rocks up to Damascus Terminal 1 with his passport and trots through security in your opinion.

Was getting refugees to fly here the traditional method of asylum claims on your planet?

How do you propose they manage to get all the way to the northern coast of France ?

You've asked the same question again. I've already quoted the UK scheme. It is clear.

Your supposition that someone in peril for their life, and eligible for asylum would use subterfuge to leave multiple safe counties and travel over 3000 miles, then hop into a little boat into the open sea is absolutely ludicrous anyway Laugh

Anyone who is genuinely fleeing for their life enjoys the luxury of being able to cherry pick their favourite country from around the world Laugh

The scheme doesn't state how you'd claim asylum. How would a Syrian do it? Guessing you now accept that someone fearing persecution isn't getting on the next flight out, so how do you suggest a Syrian claims asylum in the UK?

facts about sub

guidance system is from mother ship
bolted in from outside
sub freefalls once released into ocean
controls - propellors for direction only
snagged fish net  or titanic , no power to escape
ceo - called it a elevator - one green button needs pressed to submerge
