That , is how you stop people travelling across the channel by dinghie
Now I can’t say it any simpler than that , got it now ? |
By:
Nobody was getting sent back before Brexit, let's get that right
They rip up their ID and throw it away |
By:
Just intercept and force them back. Deal with the legal ramifications of that, better than having hotels full of scumbag criminals
By:
Why have you not got an ID system
By:
When will you have an ID system.
By:
Clearly you need an ID system.

Thank dear god, at least some survived the trip from war torn France and can now fill up the rest of the holiday camps and hotels that need the business in England desperately, the NHS awaits millions more as they are stood quiet and empty after 2 years of the mass killer CONvid

Were we returning the lorry migrants when we were a member state nobby? The issue is more complicated than the arrangements between two neighbouring states. We have signed up to international agreements and have our own internal laws on people trafficking. If people claim asylum here we have to process them.
We seem to have shifted a long way from... it is all France's fault. |
By:
See my post of 12:o8. France could and should do a lot more.
By:
An ID card or similar was proposed and of course opposed by the same old do-gooder ,BBC ,Guardian ,liberal hippies........with Labour and the lords ,led by the legal aid ,left wing lawyers ,plus Abbott+Corbyn.
If I have missed anyone off ,I apologise to the "bingo card". |

We need to forget about France. Why should they help
And in any case, as Porcupine says, if they were returned to France they would be back in a dingy within a couple of days. |
By:
Why should France help ?
Well if they are not worried about dinghies setting off from France across the channel and the deaths they can of course let that continue - but make no mistake they are responsible for these deaths And by the way if they are not prepared to help they should be treated as what they are An enemy and hostile country |
By:
And by the way pineapple is wrong
If France does what it should , these dinghies can be stopped before they leave. , they can be stopped as they leave , they can be stopped at any point and returned to France . |
By:
Oh and give them a prison sentence for attempting it also
By:
If they are returned or moved elsewhere, they don't get their money back off the traffickers.
That is the key to stopping them. |

The UK has 4 attractions that draw in migrants.
1) appart from a tiny minority of idiots the UK is not a very racist country. 2) nearly everyone speaks English 3) The welfare system is based on need not past contribution 4) the UK has a huge black market for labour Untl a government fixes 3 & 4 they will come. |
By:
What is the argument against national ID cards btw? Useful for voting, can be used for all kinds (signing up for utilities etc) and obviously can be referenced for crimes etc. Always thought I'd hate the idea but they had them in Malta but it was actually pretty useful. Can't really see the negatives for it now.
By:
It really does begger belief when the usual anti British types
will convince themselves that if every dinghie and every person on board is returned to france that somehow people are going to be stupid enough to keep attempting to cross the channel in danger and at cost just to be returned again |
By:
Now it doesn’t matter how attractive this country is
It’s not a sensible thing to make it less attractive now is it The point is to stop people coming here illegally because it is attractive across the English Channel by dinghie That can be stopped very easily as has been explained |
By:
You think after crossing over half of Africa or across the middle east, after risking their lives crossing the Med in dinghies, living hand to mouth for weeks on endand putting up with the Calais camps, they get sent back a couple of spaces back to Calais, that they'll just give up and go home/try somewhere else??? Oh my!

By:
The main draw is our commitment to various conventions and human rights acts that pretty much guarantee that anyone who gets here stays here.
Then the fact that they will at minimum get a hotel room, free food and some spending money. In France the housing for these people is a shop doorway or a hedge and they can beg for money. We need to withdraw from or repeal all the legislation that prevents us from removing illegal immigrants. Then make it clear that anyone who enters illegally will never be allowed to stay. Send then to Rwanda or wherever. Legal asylum seekers could be accepted from the camps in Turkey and brought here directly. |
By:
National ID cards could be a game changer especially if they held biometric data.

By:
peckerdunne
It's a very long coastline, impossible to police every yard of it. The British government need to open official channels of application as there are none by design, this is the nub of the problem. |
By:
Pineapple it doesn’t matter if they’ve come from timbuktu
If every time anyone tried to cross by dinghie they are returned Then even the very stupidest will realise its not a good idea |
By:
How would that help pecker? These people know they cant get here legally.
By:
even yourself pp is unlikely to be that stupid ?
By:
that they'll just give up and go home/try somewhere else??? Oh my!
''They cram boats with up to 40 people, charging them 20,000 euros each — close to £20,000.'' The Sun. What are the traffickers going to give them easy terms to pay off subsequent trips after they've been sent back? ![]() |
By:
If the dinghies were stopped completely then they would simply find another route.
Remember when the answer was 45 miles of hightech fencing around the port of Calais ![]() Until the attraction of easy illegal employment and benefits based on need are taken away they will come. |
By:
Read an interview and an Albanian migrant had crossed by dinghie
and was swiftly deported back Albania He lost quite a bit of money , and said the crossing was a terrifying experience and said that no one should risk doing it |
By:
He made clear that he would not try again
Because of the danger , the cost - and of course because he was swiftly sent back |
By:
By:
He actually said he was too honest when he got here
and admitted he was here to find work and was promptly deported ![]() |
By:
pp every dinghie crossing can be tracked
All can be sent back |
By:
If you don't like dinghies then why not simply arrive in the UK as a tourist
Or try the back of a lorry Or get a job driving a lorry and abandon it in a layby or fly into Dublin as a fellow EU tourist then drive across the border to the UK Dinghies are just this years choice. There are plenty of other options |
By:
Either in France , anywhere between France and England , this side of the water, or as they reach England
By:
Well they may be able to be tracked but it's clear they're not are they. If the worst that happens is they're towed back to Calais then they've faced a hell of a lot worse.
By:
There are other options , we are talking about people crossing
the channel . This is an option we should stop and is probably one of the easiest to stop . |
By:
risking their lives crossing the Med in dinghies
Not surprising that Porkie only ever sees this through the eyes of the illegal immigrants. What about the lives of the rescue services who they are putting at risk? The RNLI are currently advertising for donations. I wonder how many people will give given where the cash is going. |
By:
Speaking as a former raider engineer I can tell you detecting small craft at sea is a very difficult job. That is why small vessels mount radar reflectors on their masts.
By:
pp , I’ll try again
If they are stopped and returned to France They will , unless extremely stupid not keep trying |
