Shouldn't you be at work saving the economy rather than posting drivel on here?

Yep, this here is their idea of "let it slowly spread". Little clue, you can't slowly let a virus spread. You can't talk it into doing that. You either control it or you don't. This is what happens when you don't.We have thousands dying a day, we have ICU's completely full and now face the very real possibility of people having heart attacks, falls or car accidents dying because there are no beds or doctors left to treat them. But they knew this all along, and don't care about anyone but themselves and are happy to take their chances that that fate doesn't befall them.

Where in the world has covid spread faster than the UK. Since march we have had no big crowds, social distancing, lockdowns, limits on seeing older people and pubs either closed or lmited.

For months not been allowed people in others homes or even gardens.

Unless you weld everyone into their homes with a supply of tinned food and bottled water you cannot stop it

What utter nonsense.

If lockdown is failing because people aren't following rules that doesn't mean that lockdown doesn't work, it just means that the dissenters are ruining the economy and flooding the health service, not that lockdown doesn't work.

How about answering the question I asked. What difference does it make to you if there is a formal lockdown or not?

Lockdown just makes people who are scared feel better.

Cider, that's a pretty sick view, i'm not surprised by it.

A formal lockdown reduces the spread of covid. Is that clear enough. Now to my question to you.

I'm not asking about the wider implications of lockdown, and that bank and forth argument. Just what difference it makes to capable people who make a personal choice to hide.

^Because this isn't about me - I would be surprised if I had a severe illness as I'm not overweight and pretty fit.

The issue is the herd immunity nonsense and the millions of people who will end up with a severe illness and the thousands hospitalised or dead (and blocking hospital beds). And even on top of that "Britain can make it" has managed to produce one significant mutatation - who is to say that the next one won't be worse?

Well, we've not really had lockdowns. Not proper lockdowns.

We had some plenty big crowds in the summer and autumn. Google student blerts concert square to be reminded.

Pubs may have had to shut early but that was just symptomatic of the awful mixed messaging and not taking the virus seriously. Yeah, close them all at ten and watch everyone pile out at the same time, six pints deep, hugging and walking next to each other as the booze makes them fearless.

As stated months ago (as I'm sure you'll remember), what you can do is buy time. And now that we have several vaccines available, not doing that is frankly criminal. Lock down. Do it properly. And get the medicine into people's arms. It really doesn't need to be like this.

Define seriously ill.

Any one that gets seriously ill with anything anywhere is likely to die.

Charlie, his career has nothing to do with you, it's top secret, but i'll have you know he is a qualified number cruncher, so you best shut it and listen and learn from the man who knows how to get us all out of this and weer the badge of bravery from behind his keyboard.

Your argument is that it's impossible to shield. Clearly it isn't. I'm struggling to think of too many scenarios where it would be impossible for the vulnerable to shield if they wanted to.

what big crowds in spread covid? I think it is fair to say we have had barely any big crowds anywhere in the last 10 months.

We cannot link deaths with Covid in January with the media waiting for crowds on a beach in the summer to get the busiest shot.

Why would someone vulnerable choosing to shield use public transport? There are multiple options for getting shopping delivered. Online, apps, friends, neighbours, local groups.

Someone who says if teachers don't like the risk they should resign and on the other hand if someone stays at home and prevents further spread they are a coward, you couldn't have a wing man like that, not in my trench.

You're gonna have to add a verb to that first sentence chief.

I think the evidence is that Covid does not solely rely on mega-crowds. I mean, I'm sure it's a fan but it's not the be all and end all. It's quite happy sweeping through fairly packed pubs and classrooms and thrives on those then passing it on to their households. And on. And on. Y'know, maybe begging people to visits pubs and restaurants, to go back to work and get on buses and trains if you want to keep your job, and that it was ok to visit the pub as long as you have a scotch egg, to loosen restrictions at the start of December when numbers were rising and doctors and scientists were begging them not to, to encourage people to meet up and mingle around Christmas time. Maybe, just maybe, these weren't actually the best messages to be giving.

I have no option lapsy! Nothing would stop me doing my usual activities if they were permitted. I've not been in the office since March, and now we will be given the option of wfh forever.

I delivered shopping to my Mum's front door back in March/April, I'm doing online orders for her now.

When I was a leader one of my own rules was not to ask someone to do something I wouldn't be happy to do myself. I can hardly expect people to deliver to my place if I wasn't willing to go out myself. That would be immensely hypocritical.

The oldies don't want to stay in - They want everybody else to stay in.

It is their right to shuffle  round Tesco for hours with their missus , mask dangling round their chins,  taking 20 mins choosing their Sunday meat , picking up everything on the shelf ..."What do you think Love ..a nice bit of pork ?" .."No Pops..We had pork last week..What about lamb ?"...."Looks a  bit fatty"  ..."....FFS....while you wait politely a couple of metres because they are hogging the shelf space..They never even see you ...In the end you do an excuse me and lean in and quickly grab what you need. They look at you like you have just killed them.

Stay in and the virus won't get you.
