Im not sure just because someone else does something that means its good to do. I was brought up not to just follow the crowd.

I think this has become far too simplistic just worrying about the level of covid deaths and ignoring the other deaths/misery/economic ruin it causes in the medium term. Theres no good solution but the lack of proper debate about options is wrong.

The priorities as i said earlier seem to be schooling and essential services, the start of things getting bad in Scotland came in part by over a hundred cases from 1 pub(?) about 6 weeks ago(?)

I understand that Dotchinite, if i was arguing your point i would say youngfellas will go to the offie, get slabs and met up,which is what is happening too,no easy solution but indoors in a closed enviroment drinking isn't wise imo and i know some publicans doing their best with rules but..

Oh yes their priorities sound the same as Johnsons. That doesnt make them sensible though. I dont doubt the figures but equally I dont agree that shutting them down is the logical response. Theres a study out tonight for a start that suggests herd immunity could save more lives than lockdown.

Don't follow the crowd to the pub.

There may be no herd immunity, it may not save more lives even if it can be reached.

Infecting more people increases chance of catching an even nastier mutation

We don't know if this virus has a legacy

Maybe, but the cost of that(herd immunity) is there obviously, the Irish health service were practically begging people to cut contacts, they were doing that from worry(imo),  but i get that, that also ties in with pubs.

The problem with restrictions/lockdown is the timing of a vaccine as they are all time limited measures. If theres no vaccine in a year we will have to be back to normal anyway. The more certain a vaccine is the more logical short term restrictions are.
Ive said they should be upfront about that and then in the short term people are more likely to comply.
By:

They simply don't know if a vaccine is safe, and how long it might offer immunity for, maybe second shot gives boost.

Then there's the nutters who won't take vaccine

Vaccines should become clearer by end of year, duration of immunity would be discovered later.

Anti viral drug development as with hiv is important too

Still no aids vaccine

yhtl. Answer me one question. Without a vaccine how long is it feasible to keep any restrictions going.

There won't be many restrictions if cases are low D
By:
Dotchinite
When: 08 Oct 20 00:45
Wont cases keep coming back when restrictions are low? Isnt that the flaw in lockdowns.
By:
----you-have-to-laugh---
When: 08 Oct 20 00:45
I don't know how long people will tolerate restrictions.

It's a worry for governments who need to control the virus

Test and trace would help too, with targeted lockdowns of close contacts.

Folk are still learning.

I think shorter sharper lockdowns in good time would have been better but we missed that boat.

Treat this as good learning for when something even more serious turns up

More and more people not wearing masks, not adhering to lockdown guidelines has led to the upsurge in cases.

This is the biggest issue now for any government and any politician
Bigger than the US president. , bigger than the Tory government, bigger than Scottish independence
These things can all be returned to .. but how big the shadow

I recon half wear them due to being bullied, 25% to make themselves look righteous to others and 25% because they are genuinely scared.

I dont wear one for any of those reasons i dont think. I wear one as a courtesy to others as long as it isnt inconvenient for me. Most of the time it isnt.

BBC saying 30% of cases are coming from "hospitality", if that is indeed the case Nicola is right as i said, the other option is leave them open and have 30% more cases
