Post-debate CNN poll: Harris seen as winner in a contest that matched expectationshttps://edition.cnn.com/2020/10/07/politics/mike-pence-kamala-harris-vice-presidential-debate-poll/index.html

Admittedly I had a hard time following it closely but, did not think harris won at all, neither shone, harris was too defensive, didn't go on the offence enough, came across bad optically, with her body language, she was annoying and unlikable at times, and her good moments were ok but lackluster. pence was like a calm robot, re-assuring some trump supporters  I think, he did attack her record of district attorney without any defense coming back from harris, he was annoying in his efforts to dodge questions but harris's and the mod's failure to press him on that came across as very amateurish and a missed opportunity and he got of the hook. her "I'm talking" shtick looked stupid and she ended up with more speaking time, and would of been more suited to debating trump. CNN basically went with the "she's a black woman so she can't go on the attack" narrative immediately post debate, seemed like they were offering that as a platitude to why she couldn't clearly win.
on the other hand harris did fine, she didn't need to do much attacking given biden's lead so that could of factored into her performance and made it more low key with less risks and emotional arguments.

Word coming out that donors are being pressed hard for cash but not for Donald. Looks like they've given up on the Presidency and are aiming cash at Senate races.

Shocked

He's gonna need one hell of a polling error Laugh. Clinton was up by 4.6% (RCP average) on the 8th October 2016. She won the popular vote by 2.1%, so a 2.5% polling error. Trump is going to need a 7-7.5% polling error if these polls don't close up (they may extend!)

The fly on pences head was not a good look.

I was not impressed by either of them last night, and found trump v Biden far more entertaining.

Odd to see them fighting over keeping fracking going.

Funny we in uk don't have the whack jobs promoting that.

First of all the host was even worse than the previous one.  Incompetent, dreadful and utterly pointless. Can you even imagine Paxman or Neill letting them both completely avoid answering questions and wimping out when Pence mostly overran his slot. Harris wasn't great considering all the advantages she had.  Pence was better with the questions he did answer, which was only about half of them.  A marginal victory for Pence, but almost insignificant in terms of the election.  I watched the Franklin Roosevelt speech (the one about his dog), which was genius, and the Kennedy v Nixon debate, which just puts last night's pitiful debate into perspective.

I don't think elections should be fought on the handling of a pandemic.  Personally, I think the best thing to do would've been to go for herd immunity, although I'll admit it would be extremely unpopular.  But what the pandemic has shown up very clearly, is that Trump is a narcissistic moron and a fraud, who shouldn't be a head of state.  That's why he's going to lose.

Agree but it’s actually a lot worse for Trump now than those numbers and the comparison imply, because that was a volatile race with lots of swings and lots of undecided and third party voters. A very plausible case can be made that the polls were correct but there was a late shift of undecided voters to Trump (or a bunch of undecideds who were always Trump voters but didn’t fess up, although that’s less likely for several reasons) that they couldn’t have been expected to pick up. Those people don’t exist in anything like the same numbers to break Trump this time, even if a reasom emerges (like Clinton’s emails did at the last minute) to make them.

Yep, that's right FS.

Looking and comparing the RCP 2016 national polling graph to 2020 is striking. I mean, it has been for months but now we're 26 days away we can be certain of the differences which are set in stone.

The 2016 graph has numerous fluctuations where at 2/3 separate points Clinton-Trump were even and then a +7/8 gap occurred, and then back to almost even etc etc. The other notable point is that Clinton never averaged 50%, she usually was around the 47% mark on those national polls. Biden on the other hand is hitting 51% now and has been hitting 50% for the past 6 months - a huge and noteworthy difference. The consistent gap between Biden-Trump is as steady as one could imagine. It comes back down to decided voters and the very polarised electorate. Expect polling averages to be fairly quite accurate in 2020.

So trump was very scared that the truth of his sudden hospital visit last year would be revealed.

Trump Asked Walter Reed Doctors to Sign NDAs in 2019, NBC Says (6:23 a.m.)
The president required personnel at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to sign non-disclosure agreements before they could treat him last year, NBC reported, citing four unidentified people familiar with the matter.

Problem for Trump is, among many other problems, that attempts to stoke up his base and to a lesser extent to suppress the vote just make him more unpopular with everyone else and motivates them all the more to vote him out. It’s a losing game. As for cheating, I’m sure they’ll try but there’s only so much traction they’re likely to get if they’re miles behind.

Trump needs to win the remaining debates decisively to win (legitimately).

Not debating suggests he's planning to attempt to remain in office via the courts.  Rocky times to follow.

Thought Harris came across terribly (and I thought Biden won the first debate easily), she seems a vile creature - would love a factchecker instead of tat useless 'moderator' who may aswell have been set next to Kamala.

Also lol at the CNN poll, she could have taken a dump on the floor and CNN would still have her winning by a landslide.

The number of folks that are not members of the Republican party has fallen dramatically since the 90s. The number of "independents" are higher than ever but a growing number of them are former Republican party members.
