Hundreds of retired US generals, admirals, and other national security and defence officials have endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden over Donald Trump, including two four-star officers who served for years high up in the Trump administration.

More than 500 such former officials, who span the political spectrum and have served for in both Republican and Democratic administrations dating back decades, signed an open letter on Thursday disavowing Mr Trump’s leadership and backing Mr Biden as “the leader our nation needs.”

“While some of us may have different opinions on particular policy matters, we trust Joe Biden's positions are rooted in sound judgment, thorough understanding, and fundamental values,” the officials wrote in their letter.

“The current President has demonstrated he is not equal to the enormous responsibilities of his office; he cannot rise to meet challenges large or small. Thanks to his disdainful attitude and his failures, our allies no longer trust or respect us, and our enemies no longer fear us,” they wrote.

But would they politicspunter?  This pm is warning of "sterner" measures to enforce recent mods. to Covid behaviour and distancing etc: , should they be ignored by the public.   Never in my lifetime have I heard such latently sinister and hostile, adversarial language, used by a UK pm to his own citizens.
I think we should ignore the U.S. and its politics and start looking at our own because I think we are sliding into an abyss..
The UK becomes more right wing and reactionary every day!

The PM is quite correct to make it clear that if we don't adhere to the guidelines, he will get tougher.

Donald Trump has claimed the first presidential debate next week will be "unfair."

Mr Trump said in a radio interview that veteran moderator Chris Wallace was “controlled by the radical left” and would not ask Joe Biden tough questions.

“Chris is good, but I would be willing to bet that he won’t ask Biden tough questions,” the president told Brian Kilmeade on Fox News Radio.

“He will ask tough questions of me and it will be unfair, I have no doubt about it. He will be controlled by the radical left.”

Trump insisted he had “a lot of respect” for Wallace and a good relationship with his father, Mike Wallace.

Mr Kilmeade was quick to push back against Mr Trump’s accusations about his Fox News colleague.

“Mr President, I will tell you for sure, he is not controlled by anyone,” said Mr Kilmeade.

“We’ll see. Then he’s got to ask tough questions of Biden,” Trump said.

Mr Wallace will moderate the first presidential debate in Cleveland, Ohio, on Tuesday.

Both candidates will be asked questions on their records, the coronavirus, the Supreme Court, the economy, race and violence in US cities, and election integrity.

Trump appeared to try and lower expectations of his performance, insisting that Mr Biden had a significant advantage.

“No, I think I am the one without experience. I have just been doing this for a few years. He has been doing this for 47 years plus,” said Mr Trump.

“I mean, he has a tremendous advantageous really, if you think about it, but I have a much better record than he does.”

Crazy

Like much of Trump’s rants on Twitter or on stage, his speech to the UN only made sense if you see the world as Trump does – a world where he can do no wrong, and completely divorced from the facts.

The facts, unfortunately, show a president who has exacerbated multiple crises roiling his own country, and who has made the world a more dangerous place.

Population. numbers are the problem and that makes China a big problem to the environment
Moreso than America because the Chinese are not going to be any more environmentally friendly than Americans
Some individual Chinese may be but that’s by default , given the chance it will get worse
Worse now than America as Trumo points out , and worse in the future

At no point in Trumps presidency has he made the world a more dangerous place , that’s quite an achievement when you consider the many dangerous and unstable and hostile parts of the world

Wrong, as usual.

China will reach carbon neutrality before 2060 and ensure its greenhouse gas emissions peak in the next decade, Xi Jinping has told the UN general assembly.

Trump has a love/hate relationship with Fox. He loves getting on their airwaves but he hates their polling which always has him trailing.

As the Republicans in the senate blocked Barack Obama pick in 2016 because it was an election year, that would seem the only form of consistent action.

Look at it this way . The judge can’t be removed by a new political party
As far as I know it’s a lifetime appointment ( haven’t checked)
Therefore it is legitimate and essential and right , even if only one day before the election
