It's amazing. It didn't use to be that way, right? The GOP didn't use to attract all the weirdest and not just scientifically illiterate, but science opposing folks, did it? They actually attracted American Exceptionalism instead of American (and abroad) conspiracy loons.
Is it all the fault of the X-Files? |

and stubbornly science opposing folks at that.

Or, I should say, knee-jerk science opposing folks.

sadly the GOP politicians realised that they had to get the stupid people to vote for them, so since that point an entire industry has grown on the internet to exploit these poor souls.

But elsewhere, Mr Woodward reports that Mr Trump had significant trouble distinguishing propaganda and partisan fantasy from reality.
These are some of the most worrying and eye-opening sections of the book. Trump changed US policy towards the Palestinians after Benjamin Netanyahu showed him a crudely forged video of Mahmoud Abbas ordering murders During one of his visits to Washington early in Mr Trump’s first year in office, the president reportedly told Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he believed his government, not the Palestinians, might be the real problem holding back the peace process. But, as Mr Woodward reveals, Mr Trump’s tone shifted markedly after his first visit to Israel as president in May 2017. During a meeting with Mr Netanyahu in Tel Aviv, White House senior advisor Jared Kushner pulled then-secretary of state Rex Tillerson into a meeting because Mr Trump was upset at a video Mr Netanyahu had showed him. “Watch this! This is unbelievable! You’ve got to see this,” Mr Trump said to Mr Tillerson, before ordering staff to play what Mr Tillerson believed to be a crudely fabricated video of Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas making inflammatory statements. The video, which Mr Tillerson believed was either faked or manipulated (according to Mr Woodward), showed Abbas supposedly ordering the murder of children by stringing together out-of-context words and sentences. “And that’s the guy you want to help?” Mr Netanyahu asked Mr Trump. When the Israeli leader (now being tried on corruption charges) had left the room, Mr Tillerson said to Mr Trump: “Mr President, you realise that the whole thing was fabricated?” “Well it's not fabricated,” Mr Trump replied. “They got the guy on tape saying it.” The next day, he privately berated Mr Abbas when the two met in Bethlehem, calling him a “liar” and a “murderer” who had “tricked [him]” into believing that the longtime Palestinian leader could be trusted. The next year, he cancelled nearly all US aid to the Palestinian territories and ordered the Palestinian Liberation Organisation’s office in Washington DC to be shuttered. |

In August 2018, PJ Media published an article by then supervising editor Paula Bolyard claiming that Google was manipulating its algorithm to prioritize left-leaning news outlets in their coverage of President Trump.Bolyard acknowledged that her study was "not scientific," though she did conclude that "the results suggest a pattern of bias against right-leaning content." Fact checkers at PolitiFact rated this claim false
In January 2019, PJ Media published a column by their senior editor Tyler O'Neil, in which he insinuated in his article that a Muslim community patrol in New York City might be enforcing Sharia Law and might be linked to the NYPD. This group, the Muslim Community Patrol Service (MCPS) was a certified volunteer Neighborhood watch in Brooklyn, a NYC CERT along with other community patrols such as the Brooklyn Asian Safety Patrol and the Guardian Angels. PJ Media offered nothing that demonstrated the MCPS could, or planned to, “enforce Sharia law,” beyond engaging in the speculative hypothetical that the MCPS might somehow “apply … Sharia in its community monitoring.” Fact-checkers at Snopes rated this claim false. In February 2019, PJ Media published a column by one of their writers John Hawkins, also creator of Rightwingnews, in which he stated in an article titled "The Six Most Bizarre Proposals from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's Green New Deal" making five out of six claims such as "getting rid of airplanes" or "getting rid of cows", aim to "get rid of gas-powered cars in a decade", call for eliminating carbon emissions in ten years "without the use of nuclear power", or "promise 'economic security' for those 'unwilling to work'". Fact checkers at NewsGuard rated these five claims false which can be further verified by the official government resolution H.Res.109 Green New Deal[30] proposed by Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. In January 2020, PJ Media published a column by one of their writers, Robert B. Spencer, also founder and director of the anti-Muslim conspiracy blog Jihad Watch, in which he stated that congresswoman Ilhan Omar had given Iran military advice by suggesting it could target Trump hotels, and thus committed treason.[32] Fact-checkers at Snopes rated this claim false.[33] In February 2020, PJ Media published a column by one of their writers Victoria Taft also a conservative talk show host, in which she stated that President Barack Obama waited until millions were infected and 1000 dead in the U.S. before he declared the Pandemic H1N1/09 virus an emergency. Fact-checkers at Snopes rated this claim false. In August, 2020, PJ Media published an article by their Chicago editor Rick Moran claiming Democrats were urging presidential candidate Joe Biden not to debate with President Trump because they were concerned with the former vice presidents mental stamina. The source for this claim cited on the PJ Media article was from Newsweek, but the Newsweek article states that the former vice president was advised not to debate Trump citing "publicity stunts and disregard for the rules in 2016" as well as cancelling debates over concerns of the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, the Newsweek article cited by PJ Media makes no mention about any mental stamina. According to CNN, Biden spokesman TJ Ducklo stated that presidential candidate Biden has already agreed to three debates with President Trump in Fall 2020. ![]() |

Donald Trump repeats claims he earlier made online, boasting of winning the 'Bay of Pigs Award' – an honour that doesn't exist. Trump twice visited a Bay of Pigs museum in Miami in 2016, where he received 'a hand-painted Brigade 2506 shield', which his campaign insisted was the award in question. Trump made the claims while courting Latino voters in Nevada, a state where he trails rival Joe Biden in polls, and one where the president failed to overcome Hillary Clinton during the 2016 campaign

President Trump's decision to restrict travel from China in order to slow the spread of the coronavirus in January was not his idea, journalist Bob Woodward told NBC's "Today."
Woodward reports in his forthcoming book "Rage," that the policy was recommended to Trump at a January meeting by some of the top health experts in the administration, including Anthony Fauci, CDC Director Robert Redfield and Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar. https://www.axios.com/bob-woodward-china-travel-ban-trump-ed5b1ec2-8282-41b2-b9ee-5f5ea314ab5d.html . |

President Donald Trump’s campaign warned in a wild, over-the-top text to voters Saturday that antifa will “attack your homes” unless they send money to help Trump win the election.
That message was fired off just days after it was revealed in journalist Bob’s Woodward’s book “Rage” that Trump lied about the severity of the COVID-19 outbreak because he claimed he “didn’t want to create a panic.” He told Sean Hannity earlier this week: “I can’t be jumping up and down and scaring people.” That message was jarringly out of sync with the Trump campaign warning. It warned: “ANTIFA ALERT: They’ll attack your homes if Joe’s elected. Pres Trump needs you to become a Diamond Club Member. Your name is MISSING. Donate.” The warning is pure fantasy. There is absolutely no evidence that such an attack will occur. (In fact, according to the Department of Homeland Security, the biggest domestic terror threat in the U.S. is from white supremacists.) ![]() |

David Legates, a professor of climatology at the University of Delaware who has spent years rejecting the scientific consensus that human activity is causing climate change, confirmed with NPR this weekend that he was hired as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's deputy assistant secretary of commerce for observation and prediction.
NPR says that this suggests Legates will directly report to Neil Jacobs, the acting head of the agency. Legates would not respond to questions about his new role or specific responsibilities. NOAA oversees climate research and forecasting. In 2007, Legates co-authored a paper that questioned findings about the role of climate change in destroying polar bear habitats; this research was partially funded by grants from ExxonMobil, the American Petroleum Institute lobbying group, and Koch Industries, InsideClimate News reports. He was also in a video promoting the discredited theory that the sun caused global warming. NPR notes that Legates is affiliated with the Heartland Institute think tank, which is partly funded by the fossil fuel industry and tries to persuade the public that climate change isn't real and evidence provided by the NOAA and other scientific agencies isn't trustworthy. While it's important to have researchers raise questions, their claims must have science to back them up, and Jane Lubchenco, the head of NOAA under former President Barack Obama, told NPR Legates is "not just in left field — he's not even near the ballpark." |

The Health and Human Services official who has been pressuring the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to change COVID-19 reports to reflect well on President Donald Trump has troubling Kremlin ties stretching for years.
Politico was the first to report last week that HHS Assistant Secretary Michael Caputo has been orchestrating a pressure campaign on the CDC to alter agency reports — and even stop them — to fit Trump’s far more optimistic view of COVID-19. The president himself admitted that he lied when he presented a sunnier view of the pandemic. Caputo, a former top official of the Trump campaign who has no medical or scientific background, has claimed his actions are a defense against the imagined “deep state” out to get Trump. But reports of his CDC scheme have renewed fears about his history with Russia, which interfered in the 2016 election to help Trump. Caputo, who lived in Russia for six years, was an adviser to Boris Yeltsin from 1995 to 1999 and helped him get elected as president. He also served as an adviser to a subsidiary of the state-owned energy company Gazprom, and reportedly helped shore up Russian President Vladimir Putin’s reputation. Caputo’s Kremlin ties were so concerning that he became a target of former special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election. He was questioned but was not charged with any offenses. He also testified before the House Intelligence Committee that he had no contact with Russians while serving on the Trump campaign. Caputo has attempted to scrub his links to Russia in his Wikipedia bio — and insisted in an interview that his work doesn’t make him a “Putin stooge.” He told his hometown newspaper, The Buffalo News, that “at the time, Putin wasn’t such a bad guy.” Before he was appointed to his current role, Caputo also scrubbed nearly his entire Twitter history, which was riddled with graphic, offensive attacks, outlandish conspiracy theories, and racist comments about the Chinese. Caputo has slammed what he calls Trump’s “phony” impeachment and has spread baseless accusations concerning activities in Ukraine by Joe and Hunter Biden. A key source of that Ukrainian smear, Andrii Derkach, turned out to be a Russian spy attempting to interfere in the current U.S. election, the Treasury Department revealed last week. Caputo has claimed it was Ukraine, not Russia, that interfered in the 2016 election. Caputo is also a long-time associate of political strategist Roger Stone, who was found guilty of seven felonies last year, including lying to Congress and tampering with witnesses in the investigation into Russian election interference. He was an aide to former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort, who is also a convicted felon. |

The US president, who has blamed the widespread blazes on poor forest management, visited the state on Monday.
Wade Crowfoot, California Secretary for National Resources, told Mr Trump: "We had temperatures explode this summer. You may have learned that we broke a world record in Death Valley. 130 degrees fahrenheit, (54C], but even in greater LA 120 plus degrees. "If we ignore that science, put our heads in the sand and think it's all about vegetation management, we're not going to succeed in protecting Californians." The president responded with a smile, saying: "Okay. It'll start getting cooler. You just watch." The state official replied: "I wish science agreed with you." Mr Trump added: "Oh well. I don't think science knows actually." |

Hard to find any decency in him at all. Maybe some imbeciles admire him. |
